My sibling is a celebrity AMA

I won’t be saying who they are.

I recently spoke to a friend about it who
had lots of questions which lead to an interesting conversation, things I’d never said or thought about before.

When I was younger I used to feel incredibly jealous of them and had a very short and unsuccessful attempt at creating my own fame.

Now I’m older with my own dc and have seen the effects up close I definitely think the negatives out way the positives and it’s not something I would ever want for my children.

What kind of net worth do they have?

Quokkas · Yesterday 18:04

zedtree · Yesterday 17:56

They are not in music or acting.

Are they a TV presenter or known for being on reality TV?

manysausages · Yesterday 18:05

What’s the most interesting thing you will actually tell us?

bitontheobtuse · Yesterday 18:05

HorrorPudding · Yesterday 17:58

@zedtree the hangers-on element interests me. Have you observed weird behaviour around your sibling from others? Have you come across people who change their attitude to you when they discover you have a famous sibling?

I am asking because my children were at school with children of a well known celebrity who I knew before her children started at the school because we were neighbours. I couldn’t believe the undignified adoration and desperation from some to put themselves in her orbit and sudden keenness to be my mate when previously I’d been invisible!

Similar here. I've known a Famous Person's mother since my early childhood. I've been talking to her on occasion, and other people have muscled in and deliberately drawn her attention away to have a conversation with her so they can tell all their mates they are best buddies with Mum Of Celebrity. Whatever. 😂

OP - are the rest of the family badgered by random people too?

SleepyHollowed84 · Yesterday 18:05

BEAchDays2 · Yesterday 18:04

It’s Robson Green. You’ll say it’s not, but I know it is.

I doubt he'd be recognised by most of the country out and about 😂

SmallTreeDeepRoots · Yesterday 18:05

When you were younger, did you think they deserved their fame? And has that opinion changed as you’ve become less jealous?

SleepingStandingUp · Yesterday 18:06

Is the AMA a way to make yourself feel better than them about how your lives have panned out?

WhatNextImScared · Yesterday 18:06

Does their fame involve sexual adoration/fandom? If so, are you jealous of that attention? (I think I probably would be, even though I’d like to believe I’d be mature enough not to be)

PistachioTiramisu · Yesterday 18:07

zedtree · Yesterday 17:25

We are now, we haven’t always been.

They probably did and we’ve defiantly spoken about it since.

Why have you spoken to him/her defiantly - are you jealous or annoyed with what he/she has done?

Bookbears · Yesterday 18:08

zedtree · Yesterday 18:03

How would that be of any interest? That would just be naming a celebrity.

You don’t have to tell us their name, but an idea of what they are famous for would be more interesting so people can ask questions about their profession. If they aren’t A List but most of the UK would know their name, it could literally be anything from soap star, radio, newsreader, tv presenter, love island contestant, TOWIE. No one is going to be able to guess by you telling us their profession. I can think of multiple people in each profession I’ve listed who have younger siblings and kids.

Definitely, they’ve lost many ‘friends’ and always have many people tripping over themselves to try and become their friend.

I think especially as a teenager I was more popular because they were my sibling, although people were also unkind too. Their dc have experienced similar.

I would say the main ones are probably
Lack of privacy,
Harassment,
Constant pressure and criticism,
The press,
Fake friends and hanger ons,

Oh yes, I would hate that and do everything to maintain privacy - but the press are ruthlessly intrusive and drag up every morsel at any given time. A person can be riding high one minute and dragged through the mud the next.

Thankfully I am not famous :).

bitontheobtuse · Yesterday 18:09

zedtree · Yesterday 18:02

I wouldn’t say it’s had a negative impact on the way I’ve lived my life, I just prioritise my privacy, peace and keep my circle small.

Yes, I had a close friend who I found out was giving quotes to a journalist from information I had told them. There’s very few people I would talk to anything private about, no matter how small.

Ouch. That must have felt like a real betrayal when you found out.

WonderingAboutThus · Yesterday 18:10

Do they have a separate phone number for close family and friends versus work? Do they still join the school/neighbourhood WhatsApp group?

Do you feel more pressure to look good around them, in private or in going out?

Did you ever feel your parents or other family members favoured them over you?

zedtree · Yesterday 18:12

Dozer · Yesterday 17:58

Are they rich? Still working a fair bit?

You imply that they were famous as a DC or teen and that they still are, mainly in the UK, which combined with being recognised frequently suggests TV acting (or if not music).

They are still working and earning good money, less than they have in the past though.

They were not famous as a child (where was that implied?)

OP posts:
Lifesyoungdream · Yesterday 18:12

At what age did they become famous and what age where you.

kittensinthekitchen · Yesterday 18:13

You say there's quite an age gap? How old were you when they became 'famous'?

Have they ever been involved in or implicated in a scandal or controversy? If so, how did that affect the family?

ToKittyornottoKitty · Yesterday 18:13

Is there their husband/wife also famous?

zedtree · Yesterday 18:14

supersop60 · Yesterday 18:03

Were they famous from childhood, teenage or young adult?
Do they get any kind of private life, or are they constantly followed by media?

Young adult. They do try to, it does get invaded though so they are never fully relaxed and they also just struggle to separate their private life from their public life.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · Yesterday 18:15

If they hadn't gone along this trajectory what would their dream job have been?

Katie Price (I'm guessing this isn't who the subject is but she's been mentioned ) would have maybe been a successful showjumper or 3 Day Eventer

LivelyGreyShark · Yesterday 18:17

I think Sophie Price as well.

EndlessSeaViews · Yesterday 18:18

Is there anything you can say about them that will make this AMA more interesting than it actually is?

zedtree · Yesterday 18:18

SmallTreeDeepRoots · Yesterday 18:05

When you were younger, did you think they deserved their fame? And has that opinion changed as you’ve become less jealous?

I never thought they didn’t deserve it, I just thought they had a perfect, dream life and thought I wanted it to but would never be able to achieve it.

It’s Robson Green. You’ll say it’s not, but I know it is.

Are you saying that poor old Robson can’t sing or act? 🤔

Edited

They were a young adult, I was in secondary school.
