I recently spoke to a friend about it who
had lots of questions which lead to an interesting conversation, things I’d never said or thought about before.

When I was younger I used to feel incredibly jealous of them and had a very short and unsuccessful attempt at creating my own fame.

Now I’m older with my own dc and have seen the effects up close I definitely think the negatives out way the positives and it’s not something I would ever want for my children.

@zedtree Do you find difficulty in choosing Christmas or birthday presents for your sibling? The person I know distantly says she finds it well nigh impossible. I remember on one occasion her saying 'What can you buy for someone when they already have everything they want?'.

Yes I would consider them successful, they’ve achieved a lot of really great things.

Not really, I know what they like and tend to get more personal gifts. They buy themselves expensive things and are already gifted them from others so I think they like having more normal gifts from the people who know them well rather than just another thing with a designer label they don’t really like.

That sounds like an interesting thread. However, this one doesn’t include what the sibling is famous for which makes it too vague for me. I doubt that the siblings of, say, Harry Kane, Katie Price, Nigel Farage and Sophie Raworth would have the same experiences of secondhand fame.

Sometimes but people don’t have the confidence that they do anonymously online so wouldn’t be so rude.

often small talk with people I dont know that well like colleagues can end with them just asking about my sibling or something they’ve seen them do. At my events they will end up getting extra attention and it did upset me and tbh I think they used to enjoy it which was annoying. Now they find it more tiring and difficult I can just feel upset and annoyed with them rather than jealous.
