My sibling is a celebrity AMA

zedtree · Yesterday 17:20

I won’t be saying who they are.

I recently spoke to a friend about it who
had lots of questions which lead to an interesting conversation, things I’d never said or thought about before.

When I was younger I used to feel incredibly jealous of them and had a very short and unsuccessful attempt at creating my own fame.

Now I’m older with my own dc and have seen the effects up close I definitely think the negatives out way the positives and it’s not something I would ever want for my children.

It's not an interesting topic because the OP refuses to give proper answers. I actually don't really believe that they have a famous sibling anyway, it's all so generic sounding. And when they said that the most famous person they met was Beckham it suggests that they were somewhere very very low down the food chain.

From what I’ve read, OP has answered questions relevant to what it is like to have a celebrity sibling. They just haven’t answered questions that they feel are irrelevant to that topic and that they feel risk their sibling’s privacy.

Purpleharlow · Yesterday 23:08

It is so obviously Katie Price.

Very early on in the thread I suspected it was her. I remember KPs sister tried to get in to glamour modelling which fits with what OP said about trying to get in to the business.

Don’t ask me why that knowledge has stuck in my brain all these years as I’m not a particular KP fan but yeah..

And to all those posters saying how Katie Price will have met more famous people than David Beckham - that wasn’t the question OP was answering. OP was asked who the most famous person they (as in the OP) had met through their famous sibling.

There is a big age gap between Katie and Sophie, plus Katie's current husband is famous (or notorious!)

chergar · Yesterday 23:16

I edited my earlier question so you may not have seen the additional one I asked - when your sibling was famous and you were in school did you have press/fans outside your home and if so what did your parents do to help mitigate the effects of that on you and other non-famous sibling?

JollyCoralSeal · Yesterday 23:17

ToKittyornottoKitty · Yesterday 23:10

It was a pretty simple question! The vast majority of replies so far have been trying to work out who the celebrity is

I haven’t read the vast majority of mumsnet user replies because they’re not relevant to learning from the OP what their experience is of having a famous sibling.

Purpleharlow · Yesterday 23:19

Digerydont · Yesterday 23:10

OP had a go and it wasn't for her. What can you have a go at and make it and be famous, or decide that it's not for you. Music no? Acting no? My question is "Were they on Big Brother or Love" Island"?

See my post above..

I knew in the back of my head that Katie Price’s sister had tried glamour modelling and after I posted I did a quick google (I don’t know why I’m so sad/invested in this thread - think it’s because it’s so obvious it’s Katie Price that I can’t understand why the OP is carrying on) and Sophie Price did indeed try to get into the same business as her sister but wouldn’t go topless - hence ‘OP’ having a go and realising it wasn’t for her.

Digerydont · Yesterday 23:24

So many people are star struck. I wouldn't even know who was on big brother. Are you Jade Goody's sister or Alison Hammond's sister or someone like that? Or Ryland? I am impressed by people who win Oscars or Nobel Prizes. or Olympic medals. Not by the siblings of big brother contestants.

Is there anything you can say about them that will make this AMA more interesting than it actually is?

Well I find it quite interesting.

Alltheparmesanplease · Yesterday 23:26

I think it's someone to do with X-Factor. Either a presenter or contestant.

Illegally18 · Yesterday 23:29

chergar · Yesterday 22:33

Sorry I am back with another few questions.

Do you ever see/read stories about them in the media/social media and know it is untrue, do you ever put the record straight or do you stay out of it? What about when they were newly famous and you were still at school, did any of the stories upset you or cause you issues?

Do your children know their aunt/uncle is famous and does that affect them?

edit for another question - were you ever bothered by the press/fans outside your home as a teenager, if so how did that affect you and did your parents do anything to mitigate that?

Edited

All interesting questions.

DaysIllRememberAllMyLife · Yesterday 23:29

zedtree · Yesterday 23:02

I think they would and no not really

This is a sad answer

I hope you and your sibling are OK. You must worry about them.

SomaTaim · Yesterday 23:32

Zoe Ball?

fryfryfry · Yesterday 23:32

It’s Peter & Abbie crouch. All fits.

fivepastmidnight · Yesterday 23:33

Venusunbroken · Yesterday 21:05

I guess the key ones who this could be is Amanda Holden or Katie price, more likely Amanda Holden.

Amanda Holden only has one sister and she's only a year younger.

Hi OP. Thank you for doing this AMA which I think is a really interesting topic and not something that is often spoken about, i.e. the impact of having a celebrity sibling.

I have loads of questions if you’re happy to answer any of them:

  • Does your sibling take priority in any ways in your wider family life? For example, if you’re planning a family get-together, is their availability considered more than others in the family? Are they seen as ‘more important’?
  • Do you resent, for example, not being able to go for meal out with your sibling without gaining attention?
  • What do people most misunderstand about your sibling’s life behind the scenes?
  • Is it hard for your sibling to make genuine friends? Can they easily see when someone wants to be their friend for not genuine reasons?
  • Do people treat you differently once they realise who your sibling is?
  • What questions did your friend have that prompted you to do this AMA?
  • What do you hope your sibling finds or achieves in the future, beyond fame?

-Sometimes but it’s often just easier to prioritise and work around them and I do it myself. Though their availability’s often greater than those of us working ‘normal’ jobs

-Yes even when people don’t come up you feel them looking. I often feel paranoid when I am with them.

-I think some people seem to not understand they’re a real person with a real life behind the scenes. Things are often not as they are portrayed.

-Yes, they definitely have trust issues. They’ve got better at it but there’s been lots of fake friends and they still have friends that I don’t trust.

-They don’t so much treat me differently any more but people do ask really inappropriate questions.

-They were asking if I would have ever wanted to be famous and I was comparing my feelings as a teen to now.

-Just happiness really

No abbey is one of 4 and Peter only has one sibling

It’s Peter & Abbie crouch. All fits.

They aren’t siblings? And are obviously in a relationship with another famous person

What does AMA mean?

Ask me anything (I think)

DaysIllRememberAllMyLife · Yesterday 23:35

Are you and your siblings the same sex as each other? Were you jealous that they were considered prettier than you? Is that were the jealousy stemmed from?

LivelyGreyShark · Yesterday 23:36

Interesting AMA thank you for doing it and if you are Sophie Price I love your kitchen.

Digerydont · Yesterday 23:39

Does anyone really give a fuck about X factor, or Big Brother, or any of that nonsense? Or any other way of being famous. OP, plough your furrow. Find your own route to happiness. Who really cares about fame? Ashes to ashes. Dust to dust. It's the same for us all.

Dragonflyspeeding · Yesterday 23:39

I’m useless with ‘celebrities’ and it doesn’t sound as if your sibling was very famous if they have just met a few of the stars from X Factor yet aren’t in the acting or music industry themselves.
They were on tv when they were younger and a little these days but their work has more or less dried up anyway from what you have said.

It must be a reality tv star. What other type of reality tv programmes are there when not music/acting related.

My guess is they presented something like A Place In The Sun/Homes under the hammer but can someone young do that without any experience or tv background?

Actually my final guess is Big Brother/Love Island too. That takes perseverance and good looks, no earned skills required, but charisma is needed. Also explains why the work dried up for the most part.

They had moved out by the time they became famous so it would mainly be their home not mine.
I think on the few occasions there were my sibling would leave or I would be taken out or made to stay with my grandparents.
i didn’t go out with them alone when i was a child or really go to their house that often.

Ah just been and looked back at OPs posts / is and corrected. One poster asked who OP had met through their sibling and another asked who the sibling themselves have met.

Still though, regardless of whether it was OP or their sibling I’d say Simon Cowell and David Beckham are very famous so not sure why people are scoffing at those names.

And let’s face it Katie Price (or if it’s not her, it’s someone of the same level of fame) isn’t going to be rubbing shoulders with Brad Pitt or Taylor Swift or people with that level of fame now are they?

Silly comment and nothing to do with the ops original post.

EvieBB · Yesterday 23:47

How would that be of any interest? That would just be naming a celebrity.

Can you at least tell us their sex OP?
Are you female and talking about a sister?...
