I won’t be saying who they are.

I recently spoke to a friend about it who
had lots of questions which lead to an interesting conversation, things I’d never said or thought about before.

When I was younger I used to feel incredibly jealous of them and had a very short and unsuccessful attempt at creating my own fame.

Now I’m older with my own dc and have seen the effects up close I definitely think the negatives out way the positives and it’s not something I would ever want for my children.

trying to start a support group for adults who were siblings of children with high support needs and I have wondered if siblings/children of famous people had similar experiences.

This might not be relevant to your siblings but I am slightly obsessed with awards shows I.e are they genuine recognition or do celebs see them as just another part of their job?

Big Brother/Love Island ‘fame’ is irrelevant.
If and I strongly think so, the OP’s sibling’s fame is just as a result of reality tv, it’s not the same as having a sibling who is actually famous due to being highly skilled and talented which is where both pride and envy probably co-exist in the family dynamic.

Roughly 20 years ago, I saw a TV documentary which claimed that in the UK, there are 500 major celebrities and 12,000 minor ones. That statistic stuck in my head as I’d wondered how many there were. Presumably there are more now due to YouTube content creators etc.

Anyway OP, you’re not going to out your sibling by saying which industry they’re in and whether they’re male or female. No one has a Guess Who board that size. But if your sibling is, say, a reality TV star, people will have different questions than if they’re a news reporter. And no doubt your experience as their sibling would be different too.

No one guessed who my former neighbour is and I doubt that anyone would, even if I specified that he’s a TV sports reporter. But if anyone on MN happened to want a similar job (or had a child who did), I could tell them the basic route he took to get that job. And that's the sort of advice that some posters are interested in, albeit you’d be able to give far more advice than I would.

If your sibling is very well known they must have been successful and presumably earned a lot of money. Has that ever caused problems in your relationship with them? Do they help you out financially? Do you ever feel like the poor sibling in comparison? (Asking that as it’s how I feel with my wealthy non-famous sibling!)

Can I ask about social media? Has that and it’s way of “exposing” life brought you any extra trouble than from your sibling’s previous traditional fame?
If your sibling uses social media and follows you, do you have their fans who find you on their follow list and work out that you are their sibling then follow you or try to contact you just because you are related?

• X is NOT in acting or music.
• There is an age gap. X will roughly be between (5-15 years older) as the OP was in secondary school and X was a “young adult” when career/fame took off.
• X has children (plural). Who didn’t have a normal childhood.
• X struggles with their mental health.
• X has had a celebrity partner/spouse in the past.
• OP and X both no longer live in the town/area they grew up in.
• X has been on reality TV.
• X has been on an advert. (But is not an actor)

Baffled as to where Rylan and Dean Gaffney fit in this?
