What's an 'undeserved community'?

underserved community with a typo presumably

Hereandthereandeverywhere · 16/02/2026 10:21

MissSpindle · 16/02/2026 10:20

I'm wondering if it is a typo and OP meant "underrepresented"

Nope. Meant underserved. Definitely a typo!

Why do clinics make it so difficult for lesbians to get LARC. There are many reasons to benefit from coils and implants beyond preventing reproduction. There are limited opportunities outside of sexual health services to have them fitted and changed do to needing specialist training. I've been forced to lie about my sexual health in the past and last time had to travel 50 miles to a clinic that didn't flat out refused to replace my implant. It's a medication I need, but if it were a different medication with a more routine administration I wouldn't have to jump through so many hoops.

BerryTwister · 16/02/2026 10:22

It worries me that someone who works in a sexual health clinic doesn’t know the difference between men and women. OP you were very ready, in your earliest posts, to say that GPs don’t know what they’re doing. But as a GP at least I know that a man in a dress is not a woman.

nongnangning · 16/02/2026 10:22

Excellent thread OP, thanks.

Its all to do with commissioning. Where I work, we only get paid to fit LARC as contraception. We have fitted coils and implants in lesbians, we get round it by simply not documenting their sexuality! But technically, anyone who needs it for menopause care or to control bleeding should go to their GP, unfortunately.

You sound like a wonderful GP. Your patients are very lucky

Untrue

So you think they do tend to go with trans identified men?

As in, a common occurrence?

Because I just do not believe this

Plenty of cis, female identifying people are in relationships or have sex with trans men. Its not uncommon.

Communities who dont regularly attend services. So, homeless people, migrants, ethnic groups, domestic violence survivors, those from deprived areas, for example

Think you might have written
under-served
for that group. Maybe got corrected.

AInightingale · 16/02/2026 10:27

Is 'congenital' syphilis still a thing? Does this disease ever get passed down to children nowadays.

Sometimes lesbians or bisexual women may date females who identify as male, as they're just very butch women, but it does tend to be pretty uncommon.

HectorPlasm · 16/02/2026 10:30

Thanks all - makes sense now!

You can absolutely go away with this view. I wish you all the best but YOU are the problem. The problem with men is men. Not trans women. Show me any women who has felt intimated or has been assaulted by a trans woman compared tomorrow a cis man

'Trans women' are men. 50-60% of trans identified men in prison are sex offenders compared to about 20% of the rest of the male prison population. Even amongst non-offending trans identified men a very substantial proportion (85+%) have a sexual fetish that is based on misogynistic objectification of women. Look up 'trans widows' and tell me these women have not suffered psychological and/or physical harm. A small minority of these men know their biological sex and don't transgress women's spaces but the majority aggressively demand or take them. It is the epitome of abusive behaviour.

It is still a thing, which is why we always advise to test regularly. I think syphilis may be part of the antenatal booking bloods, so should get picked up and treated then. Of course many vulnerable women are late presenters during pregnancy, which also includes groups with higher syphilis rates, so may slip through the net. We don't tend to get involved with syphilis picked up in pregnancy so couldn't tell you how common it is

You've already been told not to use cultish language. Why are you continuing to insult women on here?

OtterlyAstounding · 16/02/2026 10:33

auserna · 16/02/2026 10:20

Trans women are not heterosexual women, on account of their not being women.

No, but the statistics (and OP) probably class them as such 🙄

Thegrassroots26 · 16/02/2026 10:35

Why do you think HIV rates are rising among heterosexual women? Is it men’s refusal to wear condoms?

auserna · 16/02/2026 10:38

OtterlyAstounding · 16/02/2026 10:33

Oh I'm sure you're right. I find this deeply concerning. Statistics are entirely meaningless - and therefore pointless - if they record fiction. If further decisions are then predicated on this faulty information we're really in the shit as a society.

Some "women" have a prostate, so we'd better test all women for prostate cancer. Sounds like a good use of NHS resources.

I won't get into a trans debate with anyone. I have my views and I can't be bothered to argue against them.

Then don’t come here labelling me and other women with a pre-fix we did not agree to. Call me a ‘real-woman’ if you must insist on giving me a pre-fix.

Elektra1 · 16/02/2026 05:17

Stop trying to derail an interesting thread with a trans debate. There is a whole board for that.

This.

I think its multifaceted. Increased sexual liberation =more partners. More open relationships, group sex etc. More people getting divorced and dating again. Also. HIV prevention has centered on GBMSM, which is now, thankfully, changing to focus on women. I think its really complex and not 1 reason can be the cause
