How much does your Chinese take away cost?

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 08/11/2024 22:33

Just two of us tonight, we had

Special fried rice
Chicken with ginger and spring onion
Crispy chilli beef
Chicken balls

£42 from the average take away. It was very nice but if the kids were here (bottomless pit teens) we would have been pushing £100 for a bog standard take away.

No idea why this is in AMA sorry!

We had a Persian takeaway (think kebab skewers, rice, salad, flat bread) for 2 and it cost £50. 😫

JumpstartMondays · 08/11/2024 22:37

Was yours tasty @boulevardofbrokendreamss ?

JC03745 · 08/11/2024 22:43

OP- were those 4 dishes £42 in total? So over £10 each, or you had other things too??? 😮
Also just DH and myself and we'd normally get about £40ish worth, but closer to 6/7 dishes. We both WFH and would have the left overs for the following lunch, if not some for the next dinner too.

Canwehavesunshineplease · 08/11/2024 22:46

We have chicken curry, egg fried rice, chips, chicken balls, curry sauce, chicken chow mein £23.50, that feeds 4 of us

youngestisapsycho · 08/11/2024 22:46

That would have been £31.50 from our local Chinese.

Matilda1981 · 08/11/2024 22:47

That seems quite expensive - our Chinese is average around £7 a dish so for 4 dishes it would be less than £30!

youngestisapsycho · 08/11/2024 22:47

For 4 of us it’s usually around £45

MummyInTheNecropolis · 08/11/2024 22:47

£40 for me and DD. We get:

mini veg spring rolls
prawn crackers
egg fried rice
chicken chow mein
sweet and sour chicken HK style
satay chicken skewers
pork dumplings

They usually send us a big bottle of Coke/fanta for free as well. It’s worth it as a (very) rare treat.

2chocolateoranges · 08/11/2024 22:48

We are about £33 for ours.

chicken satay

chicken friend rice

roast pork chow mein

friend rice

ribs

mini veg rolls.

that does 4 adults .

Floranan · 08/11/2024 22:50

We had - plain chow mien/ chicken balls (10 ) sweet and sour / prawn curry / 2 x egg rice / spring rolls / chicken and water chestnuts/ extra sweet and sour sauce = 39.60 and we had free prawn crackers and 1.5lt coke

edit - want to add that was for 3 adults it was very large portions there was some rice and chicken with water chestnuts left

SushiGo · 08/11/2024 22:51

About £40 for s family of 5? Dishes are 6-7 pounds each. Also tasty. We buy too much and fight for the leftovers.

mitogoshigg · 08/11/2024 22:52

Typically it's £35 for 3 adults.

Had Indian takeaway for 8 adults and a child. Was £120

ZenNudist · 08/11/2024 22:54

That is extortionate

It would have been less than £28 at a good quality Chinese here in South Manchester

Sandsnake · 08/11/2024 22:55

2chocolateoranges · 08/11/2024 22:48

We are about £33 for ours.

chicken satay

chicken friend rice

roast pork chow mein

friend rice

ribs

mini veg rolls.

that does 4 adults .

Two questions:
a) where do you live?
b) what is friend rice?

shellyleppard · 08/11/2024 22:55

Myself and two v hungry teenagers so.....
Chicken curry and rice
Sweet and sour chicken balls
Two portions of chips
Two portions of prawn toast
Free prawn crackers 😄
Usually about £22???

Tarkan · 08/11/2024 22:57

For the order in the OP it would be £34.60 at our local takeaway and three of the meals would include a portion of boiled rice or chips for free. Or for 20p extra per meal you'd get a fried rice with them.

DH and I were over £20 for a delivery the other day for us from a different place (not as nice as our local one but they were closed). All we had was a chicken chow mein, yung chow fried rice and a portion of gravy. If our local place had been open we'd have saved around £3.50 (just £1 when you take the delivery cost from the other place into account) and would have had much nicer food as their chow mein is always chicken breast and the pork in my dish I got was plain, fatty and chewy, it's always delicious char siu pork from our local one.

weathervane1 · 08/11/2024 22:57

In the North West - south of Preston. Tonight's special fried rice, mushroom curry, Singapore vermicelli and free prawn crackers was £20.23 or £23 with delivery. That seems cheap compared to many of the posts here. There is another Chinese about a mile away where the same meal is £37 plus delivery. Tonight's was decent quality and plenty of it.

Mummapenguin20 · 08/11/2024 23:00

Chips and gravy egg fried rice twice. Chicken balls and chicken chow main. Less that £20 feeds 1 adult and 3 kids ranging from 15-4 and usually have left overs

SheilaFentiman · 08/11/2024 23:01

Around £68 for two adults and two tall teens - with enough leftovers for 2-3 for lunch the next day.

PoorUncleBarry · 08/11/2024 23:01

For 2 adults and 1 child with small/regular size appetites and no leftovers it's £47 in South Wales. For that you get vegetable spring rolls, chips, beef in black bean sauce, sweet and sour chicken or pork, crispy shredded beef, special fried rice and spare ribs. The containers are burger box size.

ConstanceM · 08/11/2024 23:03

*Prawn Crackers
*Singapore Vemecilli
*Chicken Chow Mein
*Roast Pork Green Thai Curry
*Chips
£23 with delivery.
(4 humans total incl Teen eating machine and little one who snacks of crackers & chips only)

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 08/11/2024 23:04

@JumpstartMondays yea it was great, I don't begrudge it but it just seems a lot.

No nothing else, just the listed.

The chicken balls you used to get ten now you get 7.

ZenNudist · 08/11/2024 23:05

We usually spend £50. Just did an order to check.

Chicken & Sweet Corn Soup
Double amounts of spring rolls
Beef in black bean
Barbecued Spare Ribs
crispy shredded chilli beef
Sweet & Sour Pork
Yung Chow Fried Rice x2
Singapore noodles
Prawn Crackers
For 4 People (2 adults and 10yo and 14yo ds)

This leave us with leftovers so we are still eating it up the next day

BobbyBiscuits · 08/11/2024 23:06

That's the thing about Chinese. I always want a bit of loads of different things and no-one else in my house likes it.
In an ideal world, with two or more willing helpers, I'd order-
Crispy seaweed
Half a duck with pancakes etc
Prawn balls w sweet and sour on the side
Singapore noodle
Special fried rice
Stir fried broccoli and mushrooms
Salt and pepper tofu

So it would cost a flipping fortune!
