Yes my gp is monitoring me

combinationpadlock · 11/07/2024 12:14

you do realise you are not going to be able to keep that off, right?

NotReyt · 11/07/2024 12:14

Do you not feel shaky/unwell?
What did your GP say about it?

SatinHeart · 11/07/2024 12:15

What is a typical day's food for you?

WrittenInTheSand · 11/07/2024 12:15

650 calories a day? 😮 What are you eating?

Whatwouldscullydo · 11/07/2024 12:17

Monitoring you?

So is this a diet they advised and are monitoring you accordingly.

Or did you just tell them you were doing it and they decided they had no choice but to monitor you.

Why, no matter how you lose weight it's still the same. Yes if you go back to eating unhealthy you will regain the weight, like any diet but if you calorie count and exercise your unlikely to put 2 stone back on anytime soon. Their are people on this plan who have maintained for years. By eating a healthy and balanced diet this is just a kickstart

There's just no need for this snark, is there?

AbraAbraCadabra · 11/07/2024 12:18

My friend gave herself gallstones on an 800 kcal a day diet.

They advised I needed to lose weight so i researched different diets, chose this one and discussed it with my gp he was all for it and has been supporting me all the way. They have a similar diet on the nhs now for people with type 2 diabetes, the only difference is I'm paying

I’m surprised you’ve only lost 2 stone in 2 months if you’re eating only 650 calories a day. Should be a lot more lost unless you don’t have much to lose. Sounds like you’re eating more than 650 (as you should)

For context, I’m 5 foot 2, no exercise, 1200 a day and have lost 2 stone in 2 months (but I have a lot to lose)

NotReyt · 11/07/2024 12:14

My gp is all for it. Iv honestly never felt better. I have more energy I no longer need naps, my blood sugar has stabilised , my bp has reduced to a normal level and my mh has improved significantly

Why is it snark? This sort of crash diet is damaging, and everybody who does it ends up fatter than when they started

If it is for a specific medical reason, ok, for example to reverse diabetes, to get the right weight for an operation, that is one thing. But for long term weight control, it is the absolute worst thing you can do, you will simply slow your metabolism down so far and your body will start piling on the stones again, even if you carry on with the restricted diet.

There are people in the world who only ever have access to a small number of calories, and spend their whole life on it, and maintain their weight on it forever.

Are you concerned you could end up with ED, or malnutrition? I'm saying this as an ED sufferer who would find this type of regine really triggering, and I would struggle to stop losing weight.

SatinHeart · 11/07/2024 12:15

What is a typical day's food for you?

I have a shake or mueli for breakfast, soup or a bar for lunch and a bag of crisps or chocolate then something like spag bol or cottage pie for tea followed by pancakes or chocolate brownie for supper. These are packet foods though not actual foods you would make yourself if that makes sense

  1. This is dangerous
  2. This is actually very dangerous
  3. I don't believe for one minute you've stuck to it religiously because it is totally unsustainable and you would have lost more on 650 cals a day unless you are an 8st 5foot waif... in which case a doctor wouldn't have said you need to lose weight.
  4. how much hair have you lost?
  5. Have your periods stopped yet?
  6. Have you considered disordered eating being at play here?

I cannot stress enough that the lowest calorie amount per day recommended by nice is 800 following a set plan which includes a nutrient profile not just 'eat 800 cals a day and off you pop'.

You can choose to do this to yourself but I write the above to make sure no young person reads this and thinks it's a good idea... it's not as per PP.

loropianalover · 11/07/2024 12:25

Can you talk about what times you eat at and what you eat, an example of what you eat in a day? And also are you exercising? Do you ever feel ravenous or headachey at the end of the day, if you do do you have a plan where you eat something small or do you just suffer through?

GoldFrame · 11/07/2024 12:25

Are you very overweight?

I’ve seen this sort of diet for a kickstart in these circumstances or if surgery is needed

no, you will put on weight even eating a low calorie diet, when your metabolism adjusts to the current calories you are taking in.

Your body will react as if you are going through a famine, and will start cutting corners all over the place to save calories, eg immune system, hormones, temperature, etc.

Exercising is great for health, but has no effect on weight loss.

I am very worried about you, you are putting your body through starvation, and your body will not ever recover. It will always in future be primed to respond very quickly to threat of further famine

Google “biggest loser weight regain” and see what vlcd long term does.

Good luck getting your thyroid to work again

No, not everyone does. I lost 12 stone by varying VLCD and 1400 a day, and kept it off for 10 years.

Differentstarts · 11/07/2024 12:27

AbraAbraCadabra · 11/07/2024 12:18

Yeah it can happen with any rapid weight loss diet I think its like a 9% chance within 6 months. But that's a lot better then the odds of having a heart attack, stroke or cancer caused by being obese

OP posts:
combinationpadlock · 11/07/2024 12:27

Also, how old are you? If you have children later on, they will be born predisposed to obesity, as the eggs inside you right now will be also registering a famine.
