For all those worried, it is actually a thing. The NHS appear to believe it is safe and effective.

As long as OP is being monitored carefully she should be fine as it is a short term plan. Long term she will get ongoing support and advice with healthy eating and weight management.

Thankyou I didn't know how to do links 🥰

How do you cope with the exhaustion? I typically eat 500 to 900 calories a day, when Im trying to lose weight, and I'm constantly shattered.

I think it needs to be done on a specific plan as you won't get everything you need from regular food on that lower calories. Iv actually got more energy then iv ever had

From the NHS guidance on their diabetes soup and shake diet thingy... they do not endorse 650 calories a day... mainly because it's utter madness!

I don't have a question - but just wanted to say well done - as I'm sure that requires a lot of discipline!

I lost 2.5 stone doing the 800 kcal blood sugar diet (and a mix of 5 to 2) in 2019 and have kept most of it off. ie 2 stone of it off. BMI is 22.

Thankyou and well done that is amazing 🥰

I have a shake or mueli for breakfast, soup or a bar for lunch and a bag of crisps or chocolate then something like spag bol or cottage pie for tea followed by pancakes or chocolate brownie for supper. These are packet foods though not actual foods you would make yourself if that makes sense

I don’t understand how that can possibly be only 650 calories. Cottage pie or spag Bol alone would be at least 500

Chemotherapy "is a thing" approved by the NHS but doesn't mean most people should be getting it. This is to reverse diabetes. it is a better bet than type 2 diabetes, It doesn't mean it is safe or healthy if you don't have diabetes.

Chemotherapy reverses cancer but can leave you with permanent disabilities and health problems. It is a better bet than cancer. But isn't safe or healthy to take if you don't have cancer

The diet I'm on is 500-800 kcal a day but I would say on average I have 650 as that is the products I prefer a vlcd is anything upto 800 kcal a day

They advised I needed to lose weight so i researched different diets, chose this one and discussed it with my gp he was all for it and has been supporting me all the way. They have a similar diet on the nhs now for people with type 2 diabetes, the only difference is I'm paying

Why and who are you paying to eat 650kcals per day ?

spikeandbuffy · 11/07/2024 13:53

@Grumpy12345 it's a packet
Like a shake can be "chocolate brownie" but it's not an actual brownie
So portion controlled

Why because drs where telling me to lose weight and where about to put me on statins and up my bisoprolol if I didn't. The plan is the new you plan

You're eating no fruit or veg?
Your food intake is basically upf in packets I'm guessing? 😳

Yes, but it's 12 weeks out of my whole life which will hopefully be longer if I lose weight

My gp is all for it. Iv honestly never felt better. I have more energy I no longer need naps, my blood sugar has stabilised , my bp has reduced to a normal level and my mh has improved significantly

That's amazing!
Well done.

But why pay ? Why not do MM's 5:2 diet ? As other's have said all those UPFs and no fresh food can't be good for you.

The 'nutritional' info on the website shows most of the meals/snacks are around 130kcals, and the main meals are up to 200kcals. OP - you'll lose weight ... and your health. Don't do this for long. You're eating crap. Love your body more and treat it better.

Also, how old are you? If you have children later on, they will be born predisposed to obesity, as the eggs inside you right now will be also registering a famine.

Omg! This is not true!

oakleaffy · 11/07/2024 13:59

That doesn't sound like very healthy food, @Differentstarts
I was imagining you eating plenty of green veg and healthy stuff rather than packet ''Diet'' stuff.

I intend to do these normal diets after the 12 weeks this is just a kickstart

@Differentstarts Are you happy to share how much you weighed prior to starting this diet and what sort of food you ate in an average day ? You did say AMA Wink
