I hope not, I don’t like her. One of her books has my accolade of the most hated book I’ve read.

Erm.. rude

Oh dear. Well, if it is her, I suppose that’s her told! 😆

Greycottage · 03/01/2024 21:23

@Bestseller101 How many agent rejections (including ghostings) did you get before you were offered representation?

Did you scrap any manuscripts altogether before the one you queried with which attracted your agent?

I thought that my comment was quite funny

I didnt get it but i am slow

honeysuckleweeks · 03/01/2024 21:24

Can't be Lianne Moriarty - she's Australian. Are your initials KM ?

Bestseller101 · 03/01/2024 21:24

violetcuriosity · 03/01/2024 21:22

As it's an AMA would you ever consider coming to speak to the boys at my special school for children with trauma and mental health needs to help inspire them to read??

Thank you for doing this- I've loved reading it :)

Hoping you're liane moriarty

Oh I love her but I don’t think OP mentioned Australia in her best selling countries.

DuchessPotato · 03/01/2024 21:26

I’m guessing Cara Hunter.

Thank you for this thread, it’s inspiring.

Ha yes 😁 haven’t forgiven her for such a horrendous book.

I'm finishing up my first novel and sending it to agents is my next step. Do I need to print out copies or is it all done digitally these days?

Really, email these days.

Ooh, I’m enjoying this. Love a commercial thriller!

(also think the attempts to “out” an AMA poster aren’t really in the spirit)

Do you find it an insular/lonely career? Do you get to make many work contacts beyond your immediate agent/editor?

Also, research, are you the type to go out actively researching a way of life or whatever? Or is it all Google these days?

Moaning5 · 03/01/2024 21:28

I having a library book app which I love !
However one thing that really annoys me is having to wait until an ebook or eaudiobook is available- what the heck is that all about ??
Surely they should be ‘on the shelf’ waiting and limitless in number !

Thehardestthingaboutwritinganoveliswritingit · 03/01/2024 21:28

Did you ever worry about anyone stealing your manuscript?

How do you make sure you don’t plagiarize by accident? Do editors check for this?

Do you type everything or pen some stuff?

willWillSmithsmith · 03/01/2024 21:28

Coffeespill · 03/01/2024 21:22

Erm.. rude

I doubt she’s the OP so it’s not aimed at them. I don’t see it as rude.

AlbertCampion · 03/01/2024 21:29

How do you research technical stuff like forensics? I've drafted plots for a couple of crime/thrillers but always get stuck on aspects like DNA profiling or police procedures.

Ha yes 😁 haven’t forgiven her for such a horrendous book.

It's not Lisa. She's written something like 20 books and started well before 2017. I'm convinced it's Gillian McAllister (has written 10 books, had a career before, as a lawyer, first book published in 2017) and she's fudging details like not having DC to throw people off the scent.

Thehardestthingaboutwritinganoveliswritingit · 03/01/2024 21:30

Do you use any software?

byteme1011 · 03/01/2024 21:32

@Jessforless apologies i've not read the full thread yet your first post was on the first page, would you self publish? i'm annoyed for you but don't want you to give up!

It can be insular but it can be what you make it. If you're in London it's easy to get along to book launches and various events. You could say yes to every travel opportunity if you wanted to.

Well even the most adored books have their haters. I’m sure there are people who enjoyed this particular book even if I didn’t.

SecretBanta · 03/01/2024 21:36

Do you wait until you feel that your idea may be the one, or do you focus on writing every day to see what emerges?
And what I really want to ask, is where do you write, and what do you have on your desk?
🤓

zigzag716746zigzag · 03/01/2024 21:36

@Bestseller101 (Thank you for starting to quote the questions. You are clearly a good and lovely person. May the words always flow easy, and your laptop never run out of battery at the wrong time! 😃)

Purpleavocado · 03/01/2024 21:37

What do you think of book tok hype? And social media / goodreads in general?

willWillSmithsmith · 03/01/2024 21:39

I love a good thriller. Would you say your books are hard to put down page turners? I’m desperate to read that kind of book again as I can’t seem to get into books anymore and I used to be a real book worm.
