Gitfeatures · 03/01/2024 20:42

Which book in your genre, by another author, do you wish you had written?

Mylovelycow · 03/01/2024 20:43

What made you, or how did you write your first published book?

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 03/01/2024 20:44

Hoping you're liane moriarty

frecklejuice · 03/01/2024 20:44

Have you always been a writer or have you had other not so exciting jobs?!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 03/01/2024 20:47

Or Clare Mackintosh

Pl242 · 03/01/2024 20:47

What’s the best bit of advice you received on writing/getting published, when starting out?

DragonMama3 · 03/01/2024 20:47

Would you please sign a book? Would pay book and p n p :) Ooh, what genre?

FortunataTagnips · 03/01/2024 20:47

When you’re writing a book, are you also able to read for pleasure or is it too confusing/distracting?

And is there a book you really
wish you’d written?

Chewbecca · 03/01/2024 20:51

A question I would never ask IRL but since it is AMA - how much money have you made from your books? And is much ongoing income generated? In other words, is being a successful author lucrative!

A second question if I may - do you hope for TV or film adaptation? (Or is it in the pipeline already?

Jessforless · 03/01/2024 20:53

I kind of think Ask Me Anything posters should do so when they’re available to answer the anything 😂

Lookingforbiscoff · 03/01/2024 20:53

Bestseller101 · 03/01/2024 20:35

@Lookingforbiscoff write the book you want to read - that's my best advice

Good advice and one I repeated to myself many times before I wrote my first book :)

I’m a writer in a completely different genre. However I love watching psychological thriller movies and recently read PUSH so was wondering what other books in that genre are good.

Bestseller101 · 03/01/2024 20:55

@Jessforless I keep getting an error message saying I have posted too much!

@frecklejuice oh yes I had a super boring day job until 2017!

Coffeespill · 03/01/2024 20:56

Thanks for doing this!

Bestseller101 · 03/01/2024 20:56

@Chewbecca an awful lot. Paid my mortgage off.

AllstarFacilier · 03/01/2024 20:56

I’d love to write a book!

How many hours a day do you write and how long does it take to write and then publish?

Do you begin knowing an ending/twist and work towards it, or do you write chronologically and work it out as you go?

Booksbooksbooks14 · 03/01/2024 20:56

Are you friends with any other famous authors?

MaudGone · 03/01/2024 20:57

Do you have to do a lot of research on the background of your novels? How much time does the research take up as compared to the writing?

Bestseller101 · 03/01/2024 20:57

@AllstarFacilier a year. Work about five hours a day, but six or seven days a week. Definitely know the ending!

SaturdayGiraffe · 03/01/2024 20:58

How much pressure are you under by the publishers to include certain characteristics or traits?
I have a writer friend who was told to diversify her story. Of course she did and it worked fine, but I wondered if they have targets to hit.

stcrispinsday · 03/01/2024 20:58

How did you find time to write alongside your boring day job when you were starting out? Did you have to juggle it with family life?

This is my biggest challenge. I have small children which doesn't help.

Lookingforbiscoff · 03/01/2024 20:58

Bestseller101 · 03/01/2024 20:56

@Chewbecca an awful lot. Paid my mortgage off.

That was a good question and glad to hear from your response you earn a lot .

From what I’ve seen, a lot of writers are understandably very tight lipped about their author income. However this means aside from the publicity announcements about their book deal which sometime mention a rough amount eg. “6 figure deal” you don’t hear much about it, so even other writers are unsure how much their peers are earning.

ATerrorofLeftovers · 03/01/2024 20:58

Congratulations on your success and thanks for this very interesting AMA.

If not too intrusive a question, how many books did you get published before you were earning the equivalent of a full time income/could quit your day job?

Coffeespill · 03/01/2024 20:58

Would you go back and redo your first book or were you happy with it now you know what you know?
