@ElleLeopine standalone. Both have their pitfalls. Continuity as you rightly say, and for me, new ideas and characters for every single book!

No, I'm not Shari l.

Do you have any "qualifications" in writing? Like a masters or English degree?

AgnesX · 03/01/2024 20:17

Are you British....Lee Childs?

And would you admit to it if it's you? 😁

Hartleyhare1206 · 03/01/2024 20:17

@Bestseller101 which publisher are you signed to/with?

Thehardestthingaboutwritinganoveliswritingit · 03/01/2024 20:17

How old were you when your first book was published? How many hours do you write a day? Have any of your books been made into a movie or tv show?

Coffeespill · 03/01/2024 20:17

Do you have audio books?

Bestseller101 · 03/01/2024 20:18

No qualifications.

Outing to say publisher as there are (these days) four over here and four stateside and easy to work out who I am if you know it's X here and Y in the states. But they're both big, traditional houses.

@Thehardestthingaboutwritinganoveliswritingit in my thirties

Jessforless · 03/01/2024 20:18

I mean, to be fair, you wouldn’t say who you were or who you were signed with on here would you?

who is your favourite author in the same genre?

Bestseller101 · 03/01/2024 20:18

@Coffeespill yes

How do advances work? If you don't sell enough copies to cover the amount of money you have been given, do you need to pay it back?

Do you get paid to do book tours?

What are your favourite things about being an author?

Lookingforbiscoff · 03/01/2024 20:19

Other than your own books can you recommend any great thriller books, especially ones that you think might be helpful to read if you want to write your own thrillers?

And, are they psychological thrillers or is that a whole different genre?

Coffeespill · 03/01/2024 20:19

Do you have a least favourite book you've written? And if so what don't you like about it?

HelenFisksBrownSuit · 03/01/2024 20:19

Which writers do you most admire? Regardless of genre.

Thehardestthingaboutwritinganoveliswritingit · 03/01/2024 20:20

Do you get to travel first class and in five star hotels all paid for by the publishers?

galaxywipple · 03/01/2024 20:20

What's your "I wish I had written that" book?

Lookingforbiscoff · 03/01/2024 20:21

Theasparrot · 03/01/2024 19:55

Congratulations. Was it very expensive to adjust the door sizes in your sumptuous apartment/house.

Can someone explain this? 🤔 the only thing I can think of is you’re hinting the OP’s head (ego) has grown too big or am I barking up the wrong tree

It's just rudeness

EasternStandard · 03/01/2024 20:24

Congratulations, a couple of questions

Did you have another job / career before writing and if so what made you start writing?

Why do you think you are good at this, would you say you are particularly smart (as in through school) or is it something else around your talent?

Botanica · 03/01/2024 20:26

How do you structure your day? Do you schedule time to write and it just flows, or do you need to be in the mood, or have the write environment to stimulate the inspiration?

SarahAndQuack · 03/01/2024 20:33

What a fascinating thread.

What do you do when you hit writers' block/have a crisis of confidence (if you do!)?

Bestseller101 · 03/01/2024 20:34

@AlwaysFoldingWashing no, publisher just makes a loss, author keeps money. Next advance would likely be lower though.

Sorry, I got locked out for posting too much! Writer problems...

Bestseller101 · 03/01/2024 20:35

@Lookingforbiscoff write the book you want to read - that's my best advice
