Hello, I'm a TRA - ask me anything

Good evening,

I'm a transgender rights advocate. I say "advocate" rather than "activist" because I believe in constructive debate and consensus building rather than the hostile, shouty kind of activism that gets us nowhere.

I am here because I am genuinely interested in seeing if there is some kind of compromise that can be reached between pro trans and gender critical views. Obviously this is difficult because we may disagree about something pretty fundamental. I feel passionately that trans women are women (at least in the psychological and social sense), so there's an obvious divide if you do not.

The question is, can we find ways to co-exist and find an acceptable way forward on some of the difficult issues that arise around trans acceptance? So I'm happy to have a go answering anything you care to ask in good faith. Who knows, we might even make some progress.

No one likes toxic masculinity. You don't have to be like that just because you're male. In any case, most men aren't toxic. Have you had no positive male role models in your life.

It's clear these stereotypes have formed your whole opinion and they are just wrong. Women aren't how you describe them. Men aren't how you describe them. The only thing that makes them male or female is their sex.

Everything else is just personality.

@ZuttZeVootEeeVo

The whole prison thing is pretty complicated, and I agree there is a wide spectrum of individuals in custody describing themselves as "trans women" who should not necessarily be accommodated together.

As I said in a previous post, full solitary confinement may be the only way forwards to protect trans women from men (and from each other) while protecting women from trans women.

As I said before, this is unlikely to be an attractive option to any male born offender who is not genuinely a trans woman. I feel that trans women prisoners should be treated humanely however, even if convicted of serious offences, and should be permitted to wear female clothing while in custody. They should also be given access to books and other distractions to support their mental health while being held in isolation.

I can’t decide if you are trolling us here or you are genuinely suggesting that prisoners who identity as trans should be held in solitary confinement.

Of course this should not happen, it would be terribly cruel and a breach of their human rights. They should be held in special wings of men’s prisons, perhaps on trans wings where they can associate with other prisoners who are considered vulnerable. Unless of course they are violent and a risk to other prisoners and staff , like Tiffany Scott

Op you need to understand changing the outside doesn’t change the inside, it doesn’t fix the issues you have.

yes you had a tough time at school (and I suspect sexual abuse could be involved) and your sister didn’t. But that has nothing to do with the fact she is a girl and you are a boy. It is simply the luck of the draw.

proper therapy could really help you

ZuttZeVootEeeVo · 18/10/2023 22:42

If everone knows Stuart is male, but he wanted to be referred to as 'she', should everyone be force to comply?

Can Stuart force colleagues to say anything? Or is it just his pronouns, and is it in every situation. Like the hospital staff who told police that a rape couldnt happen on a ward because there were no men there?

AlphaTransWoman · 18/10/2023 22:45

@ZuttZeVootEeeVo

The hospital staff were incorrect.

A rape can be committed by any person who has a penis. It cannot be committed by any person who does not have a penis.

A woman who has a penis can be convicted of rape, and deserves full punishment for that horrific crime.

Or Amy George.

https://transcrimeuk.com/2023/02/10/andrew-miller/

Amy will have to be kept away from other prisoners, not because Amy is a transwomen but because Amy abducted and abused a little girl and other mainstream prisoners tend to not like that.

Amy will need to be accommodated with other serious sex offenders in a mens prison.

I see that Amy is concerned about the impact Amy’s crimes might have in other transwomen but not on how it has affected the victim, her family and the whole community.

If (God forbid) I was convicted of a crime, I would not want to be locked up with somebody like Amy George.

Or indeed with male sex offenders, which is what seems to be suggested by the idea of "other vulnerable male prisoners". Do I really need to explain what those guys would do to somebody like me?

So solitary confinement is the only option. Unless of course you would be happy for me to go to a women's prison.

Transwomen do. But women don't.

WallaceinAnderland · 18/10/2023 22:54

If you want support from women OP, what you need to understand is that you cannot, absolutely cannot, tell us what to think, do or say. If we see a person who looks like a man, we are going to think of him as a man, no matter what he is wearing.

You should call yourself a transwoman and stop trying to make women say you are a woman. We will resist that and will not support you because however you may feel inside, to us it's a lie and we cannot agree to being forced to lie.

You should stay out of female only spaces. It's difficult for you but that is your problem to solve without invading on our space. We will resist that and will not support you because we do not agree that your feelings are more important than our privacy, dignity and safety.

You should stop using stereotypes to explain what makes you feel the way you do. Stereotypes are harmful to everyone but especially to women. We will not support you if you continue to label us with traits and behaviours.

Do talk to men to alleviate your fear of them. Do explore this fear of men with a counsellor. Do look for positive male role models that you can be friends with. Do campaign for third spaces to meet your needs.

If you did all of the above, you are much more likely to get support from women. If you continue as you are, you are very unlikely to gain acceptance and will just be seen as another man telling women what to do.

You seriously want us to include rapists in womanhood, @AlphaTransWoman?

No Fucking Way. No. Never.

I will never accept that a man who rapes a woman with his penis, is a woman. I don’t care how he identifies, or if he calls it a ladydick. He is still a man. He will never be a woman.

Rape is just about the worst crime of toxic masculinity.

Let’s not forget, that Trans Rights ideology wants ANYONE who says they are a woman, to be allowed into any and all female spaces - and that includes rapists and other sexual predators. It allows the fox into the hen coop. It cares more about the feelings of rapists and sexual predators than the actual safety of the women they will victimise.

AlphaTransWoman · 18/10/2023 23:18

Did you read my comments about trans women prisoners? Do you think what I am suggesting is too lenient or in any way a threat to other women?

Since you seem to believe that a person can be ‘genuinely trans’ and still rape someone (“A woman who has a penis can be convicted of rape, and deserves full punishment for that horrific crime”), then no, I don’t think your suggestions about prisons will make women any safer in prison, @AlphaTransWoman.

The problem is, that whatever else you wrote is lost when you go on to say rape can be comitted by a woman with a penis.

We've told you, we want nowt to do with this. We do not accept this because it simply isn't possible. It's factually incorrect and its offensive. Do you understand how offensive this is to us as women?

Rape is a despicable crime regardless of who does it to whom. I can't understand why you think anything I have said contradicts this.

Why does holding trans women rapists, or indeed trans women tax evaders or trans women who can't afford the fine for not having a TV license, in solitary confinement put other women prisoners at risk?

You aren't listening. You said a woman with a penis can commit that crime. Women do not have penises therefore cannot.

You still don't get it and your thread will be full soon. I don't think you want to get it, frankly.

You have said that you believe a woman can commit rape though, which is unbelievably insulting.
Only people with a penis can commit rape.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 18/10/2023 23:45

OK - enabling male predators to enter female safe spaces IS a bad thing to do to women and girls, @AlphaTransWoman - yet that is the professed goal of trans rights activism.

Also, anyone who has a penis (or was born with one) is male. Anyone who forcibly puts his penis into another person is a male rapist. Rape is forcible penetration with a penis so can only be committed by men.

So it is incredibly offensive to say that a rapist can be a woman.

AlphaTransWoman · 18/10/2023 23:55

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius
I think I have made my position about female safe spaces abundantly clear. Please read my previous posts.

I think that serious sexual abuse is a horrific crime, regardless of whether the perpetrator identifies as male or female or if they have a penis or if a penis is involved in the specific offence.

I think people should be protected from those who seek to commit such crimes. This is more important than the specific nomenclature around these crimes and those who perpetrate them.

Does that help explain my view?

OP posts:
GarlicGrace · 19/10/2023 02:20

It helps explain why TRAs are campaigning to get the crime of rape removed from statute. Under English law, it's a "specific nomenclature" that necessarily defines the accused as male.

It's terribly upsetting for 'trans' rapists to be reminded that they used their male sex organ to commit a crime that can only be committed using a male sex organ. (Or so they claim.) The remedy for trans-rapist-hurty-feels is to remove this crime and its sex-specific definition from law.
