Would you say your current diet is a healthy one? Balanced with veg, fruit, protein, calcium, fibre? Or is it a case of adding up calories and a chocolate bar is as good as a piece of low fat cheese as long as it's the same number of calories?

Yes it is a healthier one at the moment and no I don't calorie count

Do you still eat an unhealthy processed diet or do you eat more home cooked / nutritious meals now you’re not dieting?

I eat more home cooked now

I got passed my plateau at around 12 stone by fancying a very good looking man in the office. That made me put my foot down I tell ya

Now this is odd to me, he only liked you because you were thin?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/02/2023 18:17

Wow I'd be so hungry eating what you did OP!

Today I've eaten
porridge,banana and blueberries

Carbonara with salad

Salmon, new potatoes and veg , fruit salad.

I'm losing a kilo a week doing this and am down 12 so far. I'd be eating the wall paper if I could only eat a bit of salad! Glad it worked for you but what do you eat now, presumably the same if you're keeping it off?

That sounds a good diet and very filling . I eat similar to you now but sometimes have desserts from supermarkets /crisps etc as well

I noticed he liked slim attractive girls when j was heavier so in a word - yes

Nooo!! I'm convinced that calorie counting is the best or perhaps the only way to diet. Previously I went to Slimming World for their weekly group weigh ins not to follow the diet

Wow it’s interesting how different ways work for different people. I lost 3.5 stone with slimming world in 5 months. I’m too lazy to calorie count 😂 well done on your weight loss

ItWillWash · 21/02/2023 18:21

Hi OP,

Congrats on the pregnancy.

I don't want to piss on your chips but what you say about sticking to prepackaged foods because you know the calories and restricting to only calories sounds very much like what I do when I am in a restrictive phase. I was diagnosed with EDNOS after going to hospital with heart palpitations and breathlessness.

It turns out my electrolytes, urea, and potassium were worryingly low. 800 calories is not enough to live on. And honestly, your diet sounds much worse and much less varied than mine is when I restrict.

Please get help if you feel this getting out of control. Also, cook. You cannot really overeat on non-starchy, fresh veg, lean proteins and eggs. The calories if you miscount by a couple of grams would be negligible and you've a big enough buffer on less the 1200 calories a day to absorb that and still lose.

AK93 · 21/02/2023 18:23

Well done for sticking to something that worked for you regardless whether people think it was the healthiest way or not. I had previously been bigger before and went down to 9.5 stone, but after many intentional tries of eating better/exercising failing I wasn’t actually trying when I did lose it! My lifestyle had changed and that’s what helped. I started putting weight back on when circumstances changed again so it crept up, then just as I was thinking no more excuses I’ve got to do something, there was Covid which took any bit of energy I had out of me and I’ve struggled since. I doubt I’d have that much luck now but I’ve gone up to somewhere between 15&16 stone (some is pregnancy weight - fingers crossed I might lose a bit if I breastfeed lol) and I know I do have to try harder to get healthier and fitter as soon as I can.
Knowing it can be done by calorie controlled diet and exercise is helpful even if it’s just a kickstart for some people then switch to homemade healthier meals.
Congratulations on your pregnancy, how far along are you?

Well done for staying so focussed!

Did you work full time whilst following this diet, and how physical was your work?

I find lowering my calorie intake really affects my concentration and performance at work so am interested to know if you had this issue, and if so what did you do to combat it?

Yes I was working full time when I did this and my work is office based and totally sedentary. I totally get the concentration thing but at 1330 cals/day tbh I think my daily cal intake was high enough for me not to have difficulties in concentrating

Thank you - this is good advice . I'm aware that all those prepackaged foods weren't exactly the epitome of healthy eating and what you've said makes absolute sense

Well done on achieving your goals. I'm not going to rubbish the diet , I don't personally agree with it, but it worked for you and that's your business.

Would be curious about your energy levels on that diet though? Also, the protein seems super low to aid recovery from the gym, did you find it hard to recover when exercising?

No - I didn't find it hard to recover - but sometimes I only did 25 mins a day so not that much

I forgot to add that my question was also relating to excess skin etc. Do you think it’s just luck/genetics for you that you’ve not had any or do you think your exercises helped? To be honest I don’t remember excessive skin when I lost weight before but I think the ‘muffin top’ I have now and pregnancy may ruin any of that chance for me, as I know people try to tone up and it either takes forever or just doesn’t happen.

Did you have any ‘overhang’/flabby areas(such a lovely word!) or just more filled out before you lost the weight?

Scammell · 21/02/2023 18:30

Reinventinganna · 21/02/2023 17:35

Are you eating healthier meals now that you are pregnant and are you able to set a healthy example for your children or do you still eat crap and congratulate yourself on being more desirable to men?

Yes eating healthier

Why did you choose 1,333 calories (it’s quite a specific number)?

Why live on unhealthy processed junk food / magazines / Diet Coke whilst dieting, but now start eating healthy home-cooked food now you’re no longer slimming?

Why the beef sandwich for breakfast 🥴?

Exercise definitely helped . No overhand as such before just fat all over - tbh

I chose that number - sounds v random I agree - probably cis low but not too low.
I'm not calorie counting strictly now as don't want to lose weight
Tbh j would've eaten anything back then hence beef sarnies for breakfast !

So with a choice of ‘anything’ for breakfast you came up with…. Beef sandwiches?? Sorry, it’s mind-boggling 😆

Did you feel hungry all/most of the time? If so were magazines really enough to get through that?!

Did you get together with the bloke from work? 😁

Also did you have kids at the time of this diet and exercise regime?

Yes magazines distracted me so I didn't eat
Yes me & bloke from work dated a bit
Yes I had a toddler at the time

Might seem like a silly question but did you tone up well and did how soon did you notice your body getting stronger/firmer from the exercise?

Um - I would say j started to notice when j got under 12 stone so last 9 months or so of regime

Yes I had a toddler at the time

Did you worry about passing on your disordered eating to your toddler?
Did you feed your toddler a similar diet?

Newmum0322 · 21/02/2023 18:48

Scammell · 21/02/2023 16:57

Thank you !!

Yes - typical day - breakfast of beef sandwich and tea with semi skimmed milk - 600 cals.

Coffee from machine - 40 cals so 640. Chocolate bar Dairy Milk - 250 - so now total of 890 cals.
Packet salad from supermarket 300 cals for supper so now total 1190. Packet of pre packed fruit from supermarket 140 so now total of 1330

Do you have to do much exercise to maintain your weight?

Is 1330 your average calories each day or does it average higher with treats etc…

My biggest issue is keeping weight off, I stick to calorie controlled diet but when I’ve lost the weight I really struggle to maintain it. I think my issue is I’ve always believed I could increase my calories (not all the way back obviously). Does 1330 feel restrictive eating out and stuff?

congratulations, must feel amazing to have done it! And congrats on the pregnancy :)

WingingItSince1973 · 21/02/2023 19:00

Sorry OP I didn't mean to be negative. You've done amazingly well. Just try and give up the Diet Coke if possible xxx
