OP I have 4 dc. Boy12 boy10 girl6 boy5.
If you have a meal plan, home cleaning schedule or general hints and tips I'd love to hear them! We have a schedule but I'd love to know how others do it.

I do have one question, what do you do with all the headbands? My mum makes jewellery and accessories, my daughter is super girly, this is a terrible combination. I cannot seem to find a storage solution that doesn't end up with headbands everywhere.

Sorry, mine done wear headbands actually! Should they be?!

I food shop once a week, and plan meals before I go. It's hard because there isn't really anything they all like!

I have four hours to myself on a Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday is my cleaning day. I race around getting as much done as possible. Other days I keep on top of things.

14 and 6 year old have to tidy the living room each evening. Older ones change their own beds. DH does laundry, bins, dishwasher, helps clean kitchen etc.

A huge portion of your DH’s earnings must go on his step children, given you receive no CM whatsoever. Does he ever or ever in the past expressed any view on this?

I didn't say I don't receive maintenance?

LoveMyCats1 · 22/10/2022 16:23

What kind of salary do I need to be earning to afford 6 children?

Lotsofbabies6 · 22/10/2022 16:24

Maireas · 22/10/2022 15:59

Is your husband a good dad to the older children? Has he found it hard?

He does need more guidance as he's only used to 3 and under. He's not as involved as me but then he's out at work

I have four myself and it’s hard work, so I have some more practical questions. How many loads of washing do you do and have you any tips? How much is your food shop bill and how do you stop the kids eating it all in the first day? And finally how big is your house and is it a big enough for you?

One load of washing a day.
Food shopping is around £100 a week? Then top ups if we need them.
They are well trained in that respect. Once it's gone, it's gone!

3 don't see their dad and haven't for 6 years.

What is with all the catty people today? 😅

I'm not sure. It depends what kind of lifestyle you want

Just enough survive 🤣 no luxury here.

LoveMyCats1 · 22/10/2022 16:29

To survive that should say

Lotsofbabies6 · 22/10/2022 16:54

I feel like we do live in luxury to some extent, but I bet that it's not the same kind of luxury that other people have

Wait, have I been conned by my mother to think this is normal? I've just checked and she has 16 headbands hanging on the ribbon loops I made for her to store them.
I'm going to start sneaking some back to my mother's house.

We have similar food issues and usually cook everything separately. Everything comes to the table in dishes then is put together as it is served.

What stand mixer do you have? I'm just looking for a new one, my old one didn't cope well with the amount of dough we needed for our family when baking/breadmaking

Caspianberg · 22/10/2022 17:11

£100 a week for 8 of you? Where do you shop and what kind of meals do you make.
We spend more than that for 3 of us.

teathyme · 22/10/2022 17:24

I love big families and follow quite a few large families on YouTube. One of the thing that strikes me about them is how little they spend on the food shop (and they do weekly shops) and how little available, ready to eat food they seem to have. I have 3dc and need two fridges to fit a weekly shop. Their weekly fruit intake is what we'd eat in a day (and I don't particularly like fruit!) and lots of high carb, cheap food like pasta with tinned tomatoes. I'd be miserable if I ate like that, so to me it seems weird that people do it as a lifestyle choice.

Haha bless her.

I sold my stand mixer. It was rubbish! I've got an electric whisk now

I get what you mean. I try to make sure they have plenty to eat, but it's impossible with the 14 year old. He has such a limited diet

Aldi. We have roast dinners, pasta, wraps, salmon, veg and rice, things like that.

£100 a week is good for 8 of you. Mind you, I suspect that the little ones don't eat much. What's the issue with your son, is he a picky eater?

He's ridiculously picky, but that's definitely because of his autism. 3yo is the same but doesn't have a diagnosis or anything. 18 month old lives off breast milk and barely eats a thing 😕

Maireas · 22/10/2022 17:55

Yes, children with autism often have food issues.
