Thats amazing, brilliant to hear @TolpuddleFarter @Eyesopenwideawake

ScarlettDarling · 21/06/2023 21:55

I’m so interested to hear this. I tried hypnotherapy over a year ago with a very highly recommended hypnotherapist, a lady very well regarded locally in the field, for anxiety issues (particularly health anxiety.) The sessions had no effect at all on my anxiety. I wasn’t impressed with her tbh, she spent large chunks of the sessions talking about herself, so I’m not sure if it’s that I’m not hypnotisable or that she just wasn’t as good as she’s painted herself out to be!

Do you think it’s worth trying another therapist op? I’m sick of anxiety ruling my life.

Eyesopenwideawake · 21/06/2023 22:24

@ScarlettDarling Firstly I don't use trance so the 'not hypnotisable' isn't relevant; I talk directly to your subconscious mind and we find out in the initial consultation whether this method works for you, if it doesn't then you've wasted an hour of your time but nothing more.

Secondly it's important to be comfortable with the person you're working with so some general conversation is natural.

Once I've told you all about my animals, my house, my forthcoming holiday and my bunions the floor is all yours 😂

@Eyesopenwideawake

How long is each session? Is hypnotherapy really helpful for adults with childhood trauma?

I have had over 10 sessions but not sure it has helped more than relaxation. At times, I find myself anxious or frustrated because my therapist ask me to see myself as a small girl and ask me what expression I see on her face. I dont see any face or expression. I have told her about it mid session, she asks me to be patient and try to see the face, it finally I sometimes make it up seeing the child version of me as trying harder makes me overwhelmed. We ususally start hypnotherapy after brief chat, my Hypnotherapist is empathetic but does a lot of cross talking.

I have started feeling restless half way in the session as I don't see what she wants me to. Do you have any advice for me?

Goldcircle · 11/09/2023 16:22

You lost me on Marissa Peer🙄

Eyesopenwideawake · 11/09/2023 16:43

@Ilikeicecream The way I work is to have an initial consultation and - assuming the client and I are happy to work together - there are then three 'change' sessions - all about 60 minutes long although there's no clock running. Very often the work is completed in two, sometimes (rarely) a fourth is needed.

The inner child is another way of describing your subconscious mind; the part of you which was present from birth and where all your emotions, core beliefs, automatic thoughts and actions, creativity and imagination are based. From what you describe it might be that your therapist is taking this too literally - you aren't a child anymore and trying to imagine what a child's face might look like in any given moment isn't particularly helpful (as far as I can see). It might be worth asking what she's trying to help you to achieve with this particular strategy?

@Goldcircle - thanks for that, I should have said Sheila Granger rather than Marissa Peer. My bad.

@Eyesopenwideawake how did you get in to this work? Are you a counselor or did you do a course?

I've worked with people since I left school - 8 years in catering, 20 years as an independent mortgage broker and then mostly recently in equine assisted training; working with people and horses to improve the communication and confidence skills of the former 😊(the latter are naturals!).

In lockdown I studied CBT to level 4 online and then happened across Tim Box (via his Ted X) who devised and runs the Control System. I qualified as a practitioner in January 2021 and as a workshop presenter in August 2022.

Adding my comments to this thread as @Eyesopenwideawake has been working with me to help me have the tools to handle some challenging situations.

Ive been impressed throughout! @Eyesopenwideawake gives an absolutely genuine sentiment of caring about the outcome, giving practical tools and ways of thinking as well as the hypnotherapy. I was not sure how this could work in a virtual setting but I’m so pleased with the results, I feel I understand my inner support network so much better now and can harness it to help me.

Eyesopenwideawake · 13/03/2024 13:41

Thanks @ditzzy - I really enjoyed our conversations!

@Eyesopenwideawake What's your biggest success story?

There are loads but the one that stays with me is the woman who had a terrible phobia of needles - she had to be held down by two nurses just for a blood test. She contacted me because she'd been diagnosed with cancer, so, as she put it "needles are going to be a big part of my life from now on". After three sessions she was happy to handle needles without any problem (I have horses so have a supply of needles and syringes in case I need to give an emergency injection).

Although she's now thankfully recovered her treatment was traumatic and long winded, but she handled it very calmly and with good humour and zero fear of injections. It felt great to have made such a difference.

@Eyesopenwideawake , can u stop bad habits through hypnosis?

Eyesopenwideawake · 15/03/2024 09:05

@Teasie123 generally yes - anything that the mind can learn, the mind can unlearn. It's often more important/interesting to find the underlying cause for the habit, once you deal with that the habit's no longer necessary.
