Any vegans/ strict vegetarians on here? Your views on climate change?

Any meat eaters ready to go green and move to a plant based diet for a better environmentally friendly planet?

@Newgirls

I think most women could benefit from an iron tablet anyway.

Even those who eat meat can be deficient at certain times of their lives. It’s about absorption. So if you drink or smoke or have any gut issues you can eat steak and still not get the iron you need.

It’s cheaper and easier to take an iron tab than eat meat. Less cruelty involved too

Yep

My sis in law, aunt and mil all had horribly low iron levels

All meat eaters

I've never had an issue, never eaten meat and have endometriosis and horrible periods to boot.

No, I like meat too much. I have tried a lot of plant based stuff, and none hit the spot for me. Sorry!

I have coeliac disease, allergic to milk and I’m pescatarian. I am therefore gluten and dairy free, but I eat fish and eggs. Going fully vegan would probably cause malnutrition.

So 1 billion chickens and other poultry are eaten in the UK each year (BBC news). That’s pretty grim isn’t it. They arent high welfare.

Even if you don’t want to/can’t go vegan perhaps just cut out eating chicken to maybe one roast whole chicken a week? A free range one? Use leftovers for a sandwich/curry but resist buying packs of chicken bits, slices, legs etc. Those chickens live miserable lives.

If it were just me I would probably be vegan by now, but accommodating family diets is tricky particularly with a fussy, low weight and height percentile child who doesn't like most sauces. We're pescatarian and I keep trying to add more vegan meals to our repertoire so we can reduce dairy products too. I'm also trying to do it without adding too many processed meat substitutes as, while they're easy to get my son to eat, I don't think they're healthy.

We’re like this. If we all cut down it makes a difference

Not for me. Already have a bastard of a time working around celiac, EDS bowel issues, cows milk/lactose intolerance and allergies, along with assorted severe nutritional deficiencies.

The foods that are reliably safe for me are largely bits of animals, products from animals and vegetables with the addition of rice, potatoes and infrequent chickpeas.

I feel your pain (literally), albeit with landbased animals to eat as well.

At least there are little moons in the world. They never get wasted.

I've been vegan 3 years this month.

I did it for the animals rather than environmental reasons (hence using the term vegan rather than PB), but I do still think it's a great way for an individual to reduce their footprint, even just having a few meat-free meals each week.
Honestly, I'd much rather see lots of people living 'imperfectly' plant based and/or doing what they can to help the planet in however they're able, than a small handful doing it 100%. Smile
