THanks so much for the suggestions. Not sure why dropped waist is seen as difficult to wear. I might give the ‘stories’ one a go.

Thanks!

@ginandgingers92

I'm a s10 on top/ s12 bottom (big legs). 6ft, 28yrs old and feel huge! Formerly an hourglass figure,but 2 kids later I'm probably more a pear... Any silhouettes to try!?
I'm sure you don't look huge at all! You want to highlight your slim waist and detract attention from your bottom half if you feel you're pear shaped to even out your silhouette. So anything high rise is your friend and I'd suggest a crop, wide leg trouser or jean so that you're not all trousers if you get what I mean.

Also this type of shape from H&M is great because the print disguises a heavier bottom half and the waist is super flattering

@Piccalily19

What’s the best style of dress and best type of jeans/top casual combo for someone who wants to make their waist appear smaller? Im tall, with average-biggish boobs and a size 12 if that helps! Even when I loose weight/tone up I still feel shapeless.
Anything belted or paperbag style will draw attention to your waist and make it appear smaller. Avoid anything like a smock dress or anything oversized as these have no shape. Always tuck in your T-shirt to jeans to highlight the waist area and high rise is great to give shape.

For dresses, shirring is massive this season and is great for giving shape as it pulls you in and makes the torso area appear smaller and a classic wrap shape is perfect for adding shape

It really suits a slender figure with small bust and hips but not if you're too petite as it will drown you so definitely not for all but a great shape if you can pull it off! I think the stories one would be great as your workwear option. Let us know how you get on!

Hello, hope you don’t mind me asking for help. Im looking for a outfit to wear to a wedding in a months time. I will only be a few weeks postpartum and breastfeeding. I also have acne on my back and chest (hoping it’s the hormones and will reduce once I’ve given birth) but very conciliatory about it. Obviously no idea what size I will be. I’m more hippy and have small boobs and in my mid 20s. Everything I see has the ‘mumsy’ vibe.

frillseeking · 27/06/2021 16:46

@inmylifeIlovedthemall

Jeans for me too please. I am really struggling.

5ft 5, size 12, large thighs, but like a skinny look around the ankle.

My biggest issue at the moment is that high waisted jeans are everywhere and their length between the waistline and crotch is far too long.

The molly mid rise from River Island is a great shape and Zara denim is really great at the moment too. If you want tight at the ankle you're looking at a skinny fit. The really popular shapes at the moment like the mum jean are all high rise so I'd avoid and stick with your skinny mid rise

Can you recommend some smart black waterproof ankle or mid calf boots, for plantar fascists.
I have arthritis in both feet and can't find a pair of soft comfortable boots, that I can wear for any length ot time.

frillseeking · 27/06/2021 16:55

@nzeire

I’m 51. 5.5, size 12 to 14. Tellie tubbie shape :) love clothes, have beautiful things, very oversized look, dresses over wide pants, long tunic tops over jeans etc… love Ganni level clothing… am bored, feel frumpy, need an overhaul.

Also, what bloody sneakers? And what boots?!!!!!

It sounds like you need to show your figure off a bit more! I think the outfits you're describing would swamp a size 12/14 figure and that's maybe why you're feeling frumpy, especially if everything is oversized. What are some of your favourite pieces and I can make some suggestions? I love Vejas, they always look cool without being too trendy

I believe I have one of the hardest figures to dress nicely especially in the hot weather! So any advice would be amazing! I have very large thighs, carry loads of weight on my legs unfortunately. I can't wear anything above the knee for this reason, my knees are horrible, so all the lovely floaty dresses etc are generally too short.
I'd love to find some flattering cool trousers, not the go to wide leg linen trousers I always end up wearing, but something that would actually look decent and current with a nice summer top.
Maybe asking for the impossible!! But welcome any ideas.

youvegottenminuteslynn · 27/06/2021 17:19

I'm 5'7, a fairly slim size 12, only really hold weight around my tummy area but suffer with bloating, so keen not to wear stuff that is too tight in that area in case I'm having a bloat-y day.

What key words do you think I should be looking out for / searching when it comes to dresses and skirts that are flattering for that shape and won't cling to my tummy? And which style of jean would you recommend?

Great thread! Thanks!

I can empathise as I am conscious of my legs too and it's much harder to dress for warm weather if you're not comfortable in whacking out the shorts! But there are so many midi and maxi dresses around this season, it's never been better for those of us who wouldn't dream of wearing minis! Everything is longer so there are loads of options on dresses, it depends on what your personal style and taste is like. For trousers, I'd suggest something like these www.riverisland.com/p/red-spot-print-belted-culottes-781326?gclid=CjwKCAjww-CGBhALEiwAQzWxOsmSoVSd2Hb9OLzFjLAWsQ-XMHNzZ3vcLQMiVse49bbLum3x569F6BoCT7cQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

And the H&M trousers I posted up thread. I wear these all the time with a black vest and always get compliments and they're very light so great for hot weather.

The smock dress shape is great if you're feeling bloated and would work well with your figure as you're tall and slim. Ive attached this style from M&S because you can see from the side view that there's room for any bloating. I'd search for loose fit, relaxed fit and smock style but you do have to look at the style to get a good idea of how it will fit really. For jeans, you can't go wrong with a jegging as they're super stretchy so will stretch with your tummy if you're feeling particularly bloated and again because you're tall and slim, they will look great on your legs

This is such a brilliant thread! I need clothes for the Orient Express for my silver wedding later this year - I am so looking forward to it but feel flummoxed on clothes as I normally wear suits for work, jeans the rest of the time, and I don’t want to look as though I’m going to work! I need a daytime outfit and a black tie frock. I mostly wear trousers, plain colours and simple shapes - no frills. I’m 5’2”, size 8 hourglass with big boobs and short legs.

youvegottenminuteslynn · 27/06/2021 17:48

Thanks so much, really great to get some advice!

Another thing I can never get right... the French tuck / any other form of casual tucking a top into jeans / skirt when you tend to hold weight around your tummy. Shall I just admit defeat - is it just not a good look if you tend to be a bit bloated around the stomach? I guess maybe it's highlighting the area I don't like. I always think it'll help me feel less exposed around the tummy than being totally tucked in and less unflattering than oversize stuff left loose... but it ends up looking really awkward!

How would you describe your own personal style? Who has been your favourite client to style? (without it being too outing of course)

BonteGracieuse · 27/06/2021 17:55

Interesting thread!

How about mens linen trousers (not linen blend), black, casual but not scruffy, and not slim fit. Thanks!

RubixRubicon · 27/06/2021 17:57

Mid 40’s female here. 5’3, 16 stone (Sad). My style is definitely classics over fashion, but I do not consider I am old fashioned if that makes sense. I am looking for some really nice workwear that does not necessarily involve black garments or polyester. Blonde hair, blue eyes, light complexion. Thank you.
