Wordthe · 13/01/2019 12:53

I also feel sorry for the OP this is genuine
Her lack of education is very obvious

AtrociousCircumstance · 13/01/2019 12:53

The traveller who doesn’t travel, who doesn’t know the name of the language she apparently can speak, who expresses all the worst stereotypes of how some people view travellers...

Yeah we’ve been had!

Tiscold · 13/01/2019 12:54

What is your opinion on the amount of tax travellers pay? Or shall we say lack of tax?

Do you think physical violence is ok to sokve situarions then? So it's acceptable for non travellers to come beat up travellers for staying ontheir land for example?

I can assure you I’m not anti-Traveller. I grew up close to a big halting site and lots of Traveller girls were in my class at school, and I also taught some Traveller women in evening classes attached to my university. Not one of those women, all articulate Traveller advocates, would for one moment advocate taking a child out of school aged nine, ignorance of basic human biology, or violence against teachers. You are a poor advocate for your community.

Wordthe · 13/01/2019 12:57

your father is happy to take advantage of the education system and the various other things that exist in this country because people accept the rule of law and do not consider violence an acceptable way to settle disputes

I did question it myself but it seems that the OP has disengaged from the travelling community. Threads like this infuriate me because we get enough discrimination without people making silly posts and goading.

Parthenope · 13/01/2019 13:02

Agreed, Pinkyyy.

So you don't want your kids watching sex education, and you weren't allowed to, but you had 3 kids by the time you were 20. Hmm

Parthenope · 13/01/2019 13:03

All the (Irish) Traveller women I knew were huge advocates of education for girls, and wanted their daughters to have more freedom and opportunities than they had.

Pinkyyy · 13/01/2019 13:05

@ABCagain what a disgusting thing to say. Would you discriminate against all ethnic groups based on one individual's actions?

Wordthe · 13/01/2019 13:10

It's a relief to know that the Irish traveller women wanted better for their children

Pinkyyy · 13/01/2019 13:14

@Wordthe not all travellers are primitive, it is a very different way of life and one that it's subject to constant racism and discrimination. Yes there are parts about it that to 'outsiders' are very difficult to understand, but a post like this serves no purpose in getting rid of those. Having been refused entry to various places over the years purely for being a traveller, we clearly have a way to go before we reach any level of equality, and this thread only further promotes the stereotype.

Nothisispatrick · 13/01/2019 13:16

just is, girls are pure and need to remain that way until their wedding night

Ew, that gave me the creeps.

Wordthe · 13/01/2019 13:21

@Pinkyyy, you do agree that some in the travelling community are primitive?

Pinkyyy · 13/01/2019 13:24

@Wordthe yes I would agree on that, it is becoming less and less common as the years progress though. I'm sure there is good and bad in all walks of life.

Blueemeraldagain · 13/01/2019 13:25

I would be very reluctant to let peers, social media and the internet in general educate my children when it comes to sexual health and relationships.

You’ve essentially admitted you know your teenagers are probably watching pornography online but have an issue with lessons based on scientific or psychological grounds? You want pornographers to teach your children about sex and relationships but not teachers?

Wordthe · 13/01/2019 13:32

@Pinkyyy, I appreciate your honesty

Wordthe · 13/01/2019 13:35

Your father punched the teacher because this was a challenge from another man
he considers himself to be the 'alpha'
he is above the law and he will not be held accountable for his actions
anyone who challenges him, who attacks his position at the top of the hierarchy him must be immediately taken down

Pinkyyy · 13/01/2019 13:39

I have never ever known a travelling man to assault a school teacher. If he was unhappy he should have pulled you out of the school. His behaviour was stupid and violent and should not be put down to him being a traveller, once again giving us a bad reputation.

TyrionsNextWife · 13/01/2019 13:43

If the teacher deserved a thumping because he did something he was told not to, does the same logic apply to everyone? If you cooked a meal your DH didn’t like would you be ok with getting a slap, or if one of your kids made a mess would you punch them a couple of times till they learned?

windydoggy · 13/01/2019 14:06

Sure we have had a traveller on before and was asked if you have a toilet in your caravan why do you leave an area with poo and toilet paper when you leave and she said that they don't ever use the toilet in caravan 🤔
Is this true op ?

Pinkyyy · 13/01/2019 14:09

@windydoggy they are never used, it's considered not clean and usually just gets used for storage. It's a small home and obviously could prove to be unpleasant
