Predictably- how did you lose the weight?

I’d love to know how you lost the weight.
And what made you snap? So many people want to lose weight but it’s getting into that mindframe of doing something about it, and sticking to it

Sorry, I should have put how I lost it. I had a gastric sleeve, took about two and a half years to lose it, majority within the first year.

Have you been left with loose skin? Does it matter to you, or is the fact that you are so much healthier now enough. (I've lost 4 stone so far, and have about 4 stone to go).

How was recovery? Have you gained at all or continued to lose? Do you have excess skin. Have a friend having surgery soon, worried about the recovery for her as she has young children.

Are you planning to lose more weight? How tall are you?

Do you find that strangers (people in the street etc) react to you differently now?

Report
HalfThewoman · 14/09/2018 22:15

My recovery took a little longer than normal due to rare complications, but once that was sorted my recovery was smooth.
I do have loose skin, I can wrap my arm skin around my arm almost fully. It doesn’t birher me really, I didn’t get the surgery for cosmetic reasons, I did it for my health. I am extremely happy with my results.

How long did it take you to gain the weight? How heavy were you in your teens/early 20s etc?

Report
HalfThewoman · 14/09/2018 22:17

I would like to lose more weight, I’m 5ft 7 and would like to lose another 3 stone. I know that still seems very heavy but it would be the lowest I’ve weighed since around 11 years old.

Strangers no longer shout obscenities at me, I do get treated a bit better.

What do you think contributed to your weight gain as a child/teen? Can you pinpoint anything?

Do you miss eating some things (if you can’t, I am not well up on gastric sleeves!)?

From the age of 10 I gained a stone a year untill I was 17 stone and 17 years old. I then started losing weight over the next year and managed to keep it stable at 13 stone untill I was around 20 after going through some traumatic events . At 22 I gave birth and developed PND, became a hermit and ballooned from 19 stone to 30 stone in 3 years.

What do I think contributed to being fat as a child? Probably bullying at school and from my siblings, chaotic family life and food aversions.

I can eat pretty much anything, just in smaller quantities. Cannot have fizzy drinks.

In a typical day, What do you eat? Do you ever crave certain foods? Do you do tons of exercise?

Well done OP.

What did you eat previously compared with what you eat now? And you say you chose to lose the weight due to health concerns, I'm interested to know if you now make healthier weight choices (not just eating fewer calories) or if you still make high fat/suger choices?

Strangers no longer shout obsceneties at me. I do get treated a bit better.

You say that like they're almost doing you a favor not being rude to you and treating you like a human being. No one regardless of wether they're 6 stone or 66 stone deserves to be treated spoken to like crap.
I'm 19 stone and size 28. However i do not for one minute think people have the any right to abuse me. Nor would I stand for it.
I don't give shit out so I won't take it back.
Oh and if "I" do decide to lose weight and people who don't talk to me now start snivelling around me. They'd be getting told where to go. ill still be the same person.

Well done btw.

How is your life different since losing the weight? What do you do now that you couldn’t or wouldn’t before?

Report
HalfThewoman · 14/09/2018 22:44

Previously I ate a phenomenal amount, whole 12 inch pizza with fries and fizzy juice, 4 slices of bread as a snack etc.
I do make an effort to make healthier choices now, it’s a lot easier to eat an apple when you feel full after it. I do still eat buttery sugary tasty things, I doubt that craving will ever go, but in far smaller quantities. Still fond of wine too Blush

I know they had no right to say those things Awwlookatmybabyspider, I was in a pretty bad place at the time and they just confirmed my utter self loathing.
I’m glad you have the attitude you do!

Honestly? It got to the stage I could barely wipe my own arse. I could not stand for more than 30 seconds without extreme knew pain. I was in a complete mess, my DH became my carer practically. My dd suffered due to all that.
Now it’s difficult for me to think what I can’t do Grin . Life is so much better, I can run! My dd has a proper mother again, I go everywhere with her, we have a great bond. DH is happier.
