Apart from who my husband is/what team he plays for Grin

(Have set up a whole new username for this so there's no chance of it coming back to me and the Daily Mail can sod off thank you!)

Interesting thread- thank you for this. Both your husband and yourself sound like lovely, down to earth people. I remember Cheryl complaining about the term WAG in a tv interview when she was still one. Has it ever bothered you/Do you find it offensive in any way?

inabeautifulplace · 12/07/2018 20:55

Always annoys me when people bang on about footballers being massively overpaid talentless idiots.

Do you get this from people? And how do you deflect it or educate people?

IRL people are way too polite to say this to me whether they think it or not. I do agree that some of the wages are obscene but of course I don't believe they're talentless Grin sometimes DH is a bit of an idiot though haha.

If your DH buys you such lovely things, what on earth do you buy him? I can never think of anything to buy DP.
I love this thread an although DP has a season ticket for another club, I reckon we bumped into you in a pub we'd think you were great.

Moonshine86 · 12/07/2018 21:00

Dreaming of a holiday right now.... Bora bora on my list!

Churrolicious · 12/07/2018 21:02

Really interesting thread OP, and totally at odds with what I thought WAGs were.

That said, every time I see your user name for a second I read ‘IamWagamama’ and I have spent the last two days craving Katsu curry and tempura...

Ahhhh it doesn't bother me, I try to own it ha! I think for Cheryl because she was famous in her own right and liked the limelight it probably grated to just be reduced to Wife of Footballer. Whereas I'm happy to fade into the background.
I'm the one the fans ask to take the photo (often tempted to flip the camera and take a really unflattering selfie while DH and fan are grinning, thumbs up on the other side ) Grin

Omg @Churrolicious I thought exactly the same! Was considering naming my blog/ tell all book 'Wag and Mama' Grin

And to answer THE most important question... gyoza and yaki udon (42 and a 101)

Their wages are very high when you consider that, of course, they don't save lives etc....but nor do most other very very high earning people. In fact, the people who do save lives, though they tend to be very comfortable if they're doctors rather than nurses, don't generally earn the massive, top of the heap megabucks.

I don't think anyone would say this is as it should be, but it's just what happens when your job is about making money or, in the case of high profile footballers, in a field that is very popular with a lot of people, and therefore simply has a lot of income poured into it from the people who enjoy it and want to sustain it.

captainpantbeard · 12/07/2018 21:07

OP have you considered “Footballers’ Thighs” as a title for your book?

Justneedsomeinfo · 12/07/2018 21:08

@iamawagama - what do you get your kids for Christmas ? Do you buy them gifts all year round? Do you have £ limits for birthdays and Christmas? What do you buy each other? How much do you spend on family and friends ? Sorry just being nosey !!

Lollipop18 · 12/07/2018 21:09

Earlier posts, you said you cook from scratch, what are some of the meals you prepare?

vince · 12/07/2018 21:10

Did you have to get the ok from your husband to start this thread?

If your husband wasn't a footballer would he have made a real success of whatever he did with his life- I'm guessing that becoming a successful footballer in the PL requires a lot more than just natural talent, so if, say had been a plumber instead would he be working for someone else, working for himself, or running a company?

strivingforsuccess · 12/07/2018 21:11

All my questions answered! Great thread, just spent last hour reading it! 😂

It's on the shortlist Grin

I’m really enjoying this thread. I’m gonna ask a question now.

how high maintenance are you in terms of appearances?

I’m a forty something mum of 2 and get my nails, eyebrows and other regions done on the regular. Hair coloured and cut well every 6 weeks. Clothes are important. I think I look reasonably presentable.

Then, for you, is it next level maintenance? Grin and what does that entail?

Also- I feel your pain for the metallic mismatch for your red dress outfit.

iamawagama · 12/07/2018 21:18

Nah though he wasn't thrilled when I told him about it oops !

If your husband wasn't a footballer would he have made a real success of whatever he did with his life

I think so because he has such drive and dedication to anything he tries. He's really well travelled (perk of the job) and is at ease in a room full of people and very easy to talk to although he would rather listen as doesn't like the spotlight. I have no doubt he would've been successful and our paths would've crossed at some point!

Pyjamas! Genius. I don't think he has any.
That'll be two Hendricks and tonics. Mine in a Hi-ball glass.
What does your husband drink?

iamawagama · 12/07/2018 21:24

Well at the moment we are on a health kick getting ready for the new season. So it's a lot of white meat, fish, salads and veg dishes. Tonight was baked cod and a huge vat of ratatouille. Which he moaned his way though! Grin
Last night quinoa burgers and salad haha, poor guy!

He's got a real sweet tooth and intolerance to eggs and dairy (which he would just ignore and then spends hours moaning about his stomach) so if I think he deserves a treat I make him vegan pancakes (yum)

I too get regular mani pedi, laser hair removal and hair cut and colour.
Haven't started on the Botox yet but it might be on the horizon soon!
I'm making more of an effort to stop wearing jeans, I have lovely clothes in my wardrobe but I end up wearing the same couple of outfits so I'm attempting to switch it up a bit. I have handbags for most outfits (except that damn red dress) and lots of different sunglasses and heels!
I need to make more of an effort with my hair though, I'm just so rubbish at it I cant style it to save my life! Or maybe I could if I took my time and put in some effort, it just seems so much of a faff!

So, to answer your question. I'm not as high maintenance as I feel I should be.
Some of the WAGs turn up at matches looking so casually perfectly put together!

When was the last time your husband or his team appeared in the newspaper and what was it about?

Atalune · 12/07/2018 21:34

Thank you! follow up question

What’s your day to day outfit then?

I’m- skinny holed up jeans, yellow leather wooden clog sandals, white bordier anglais vest type top. Kanken back pack. Switch the jeans for little denim shorts or black linen shorts.

Rach2017 · 12/07/2018 21:35

Absolutely loving this thread. Very interesting :)

Your wedding dress sounds lovely!

When did you get married?

I’m due to get married next year, any tips on how not to get stressed???
