I reverted to Islam 2 years ago, AMA

Two questions

1. why
2. why did you mention that you are white?

Do you mean you converted? If you reverted it means you used to be Muslim, then you weren't and now you are again.

Does that mean you were originally muslim, changed to something else and then "reverted" (as contrasted with a new convert - with no reversion?)

If so then were you regarded as an apostate when you rejected your original Islam?

When you say reverted-were you born a Muslim then left the faith?

Salem.... how did you learn to recite the prayers? Do you do it in arabic?

I'm not a Muslim, but I believe that in islamic theology Muslims consider all children to be born as Muslims. Therefore if an adult who wasn't raised as a Muslim "converts" to Islam later in life they would refer to this as "reverting" rather than "converting".

Why on earth would you go back to it? Why is being white relevant (white passing ex Muslim here)

I mentioned I'm white cause it's what people are usually most surprised at.
I reverted as I have a lot of Muslim friends and extended family, so I was used to the way they did things, and decided it was right for me also.
I read my prayers in Arabic, I went to the mosque to learn.
I read the Quran in English however

Are you married? Do you cover your head? Do you feel fully accepted in the mosque by others? How have your family reacted?

Yes I am married now, a year ago.
I get started at in the mosque, and yes I cover my head

What have you found the most difficult so far?

I think because I'm white they stare- I have been asked on numerous occasions if I'm a Muslim.. with a scarf on my head in a mosque!
My family have accepted me fine, although they tend to ask me if I'm going to be wearing my scarf when we go out tomorrow

The women stare, and the hardest thing I've found is probably wearing the hijab, and seeing old friends. I don't know why I feel awkward & also making other friends!!

Women are often seen as less important in the Islamic faith (as I understand it) how do you see it?

Do you feel fully accepted by the Muslim community? By that I mean by fellow Muslims who are of a different ethnic background to you?

Also, what's the best or most fun thing about being a Muslim?

I don't see it like that at all, Islam itself teaches that women are equal to men, but not identical for example women should cover- the headscarf, but men also should cover- with their eyes so not looking at women and also, wearing trousers just above the ankle and covering chest/shoulders. If you see what I mean.
