Rascals Nappies review: "A hundred times better than classic plastic nappies"

Featuring six Core Innovations which claim to offer up to 32% more absorbency than rival brands, a skin sensitivity layer and a competitive price point starting from just 12p per nappy, Rascals Nappies (formerly known as Rascal + Friends) seem to offer everything you could possibly want from a disposable nappy. We put them to the test with mum-of-two Alex to discover her verdict.

How we tested Rascals Nappies

Our verified parent-tester Alex tested the Rascals Premium Size 3 and 4 nappies over a period of a few months while her baby was between seven and nine months old. During this time the nappies were worn during the day as well as for overnight sleep. Alex assessed the nappies thoroughly on a variety of important factors including fit, absorbency, sensitive skin suitability and overall value for money.

What is the nappy absorbency like?

"There were no leaks," said Alex, "the nappies felt very secure and robust."

How was the fit of the nappies?

We liked the stretchy back. The nappies seemed to fit very well. The jump between size 3 and size 4 seemed quite large, but we have not faced any issues regardless.

How easy are the nappies to get on and off?

"Very easy, the velcro tabs are simple to use and feel secure."

Are the nappies suitable for overnight use?

The nappies can contain a substantial amount of material. They seem to do better than other nappies we have tried in this regard (e.g. Kit and Kin).

Are the nappies suitable for sensitive skin?

The nappies feature OEKO-Tex certification and have been approved by dermatologists for their AirSpun Technology which incorporates a hot-air bonded technology to offer a breathable, soft layer gentle on skin.

Alex said that the nappies "appear fine" on skin and while some areas had a rough feel, this "has not caused any discomfort at all."

How do these nappies compare to others used?

We normally use Kit and Kin nappies, which we have been happy with. Rascals nappies compare well. They are easy to use, seem comfortable, and feel secure. One downside is that Rascals nappies are a bit bulkier and aren't biodegradable - but these are hundred times better than classic plastic nappies.

"Rascals nappies from Tesco are the best followed by Lidl premium." - sunseaandme

"Tesco premium brand Rascal and friends here. Brilliant nappy. Use the ordinary Fred and Flo during the day." - QueenLagertha

Overall verdict

Overall, Alex reported a positive experience with the Rascals nappies, though she did remove points for lack of biodegradability.

They are good value for money. Approximately half the price of what we usually buy, with additional features and no major downsides.
