OXO Good Grips Microfibre Spray Mop review: is this the best spray mop for busy kitchen floors?

A sturdy spray mop with a genuinely useful scrubber, this OXO tackled muddy paw prints, spilled tea and daily grime without soaking my tiles. Its fixed-height handle and single pad are the main caveats.

How I tested

I tested the OXO Good Grips Microfibre Spray Mop over one month in my own home on a tiled kitchen floor. My household includes two dogs, two cats and two teenagers, so it tackled muddy paw prints, spilled tea and the usual daily grime.

I first used water in the refillable bottle before testing it again with diluted Method floor cleaner. I swept or vacuumed pet hair before mopping, and I machine-washed the microfibre pad to see how well it cleaned up and how quickly it dried.

This is the best spray mop I've tested. That sounds a bit dramatic for a mop, but in a house with two dogs, two cats, two teenagers and a tiled kitchen floor that sees more muddy paw prints than any floor reasonably should, the OXO Good Grips Microfibre Spray Mop made daily clean-ups much easier.

It feels sturdy, glides smoothly and doesn't need much thought once it's assembled. I first tested it with water in the refillable bottle, then tried it again with diluted Method floor cleaner. I preferred using the cleaner because I didn't have to spray the floor first. I could just grab the mop, squeeze the trigger and get on with it.

The built-in scrubber is what sets this mop apart. It slides out when you need it and can be released from the mop head with your foot, while staying attached to the pole. I used it on dried-on dog food and it worked brilliantly. The surface is more like a scourer than a soft cleaning pad, so it works brilliantly on the toughest grime.

There are a few niggles. The handle isn't telescopic, so while it suited me at 5'8", anyone much taller or shorter might find it less comfortable. I also think it should come with a spare pad. The included pad washes well, but I'd expect either a second pad or an alternative one in the box, especially at almost £40 RRP.

Overall, this is an excellent spray mop for kitchens, utility rooms and other busy hard floors, especially if you're forever dealing with paw prints, spills and the everyday mess that builds up in a family home. It's simple, effective and the scrubber makes it far more useful than most spray mops.

OXO Good Grips Microfibre Spray Mop: what's in the box?

My sample included the mop, the refillable bottle, one microfibre pad and the built-in slide-out scrubber. There wasn't a spare pad, which I think is a missed opportunity.

  • spray mop handle and mop head

  • refillable bottle

  • one microfibre pad

  • built-in slide-out scrubber

What's the OXO Good Grips Microfibre Spray Mop like to set up?

The only slightly frustrating part was attaching the handle to the mop head. It wasn't difficult, but it needed more force than I expected.

After that, everything was straightforward. The parts fitted together easily, the bottle was simple to fill and the mop was ready to use within a couple of minutes. It isn't telescopic, so there's no height adjustment. That suited me, but only because the fixed handle happened to be the right height.

What's the OXO Good Grips Microfibre Spray Mop like to use?

It's very easy to use. The mop feels sturdy without being heavy and glides smoothly across my tiled kitchen floor. It was easy to steer around chairs, table legs and the usual kitchen obstacles, and the trigger was comfortable to squeeze.

The spray covered the floor evenly without soaking it, which worked well on tiles. Once I'd filled the bottle with diluted Method floor cleaner, I no longer had to spray cleaner separately, making everyday mopping much quicker.

I always swept or vacuumed pet hair before mopping, so I haven't judged it on hair pick-up. For muddy paw prints, spilled tea and everyday kitchen grime, it handled everything I threw at it.

The microfibre pad washed well in the washing machine and dried quickly. The scrubber needs a little more attention because it can stay damp if you slide it straight back into place. I found it better to leave it separate from the mop head until it had dried.

How well does the OXO Good Grips Microfibre Spray Mop clean muddy paw prints and daily grime?

Very well. Muddy paw prints are a regular feature in my kitchen and the OXO cleared them without needing repeated passes. It also dealt well with spilled tea and the film of everyday dirt that builds up on kitchen tiles.

It worked perfectly well with water, but I preferred using diluted Method floor cleaner in the bottle. It made the whole process quicker because I didn't need to spray cleaner onto the floor first, and the tiles felt cleaner afterwards.

How well does the OXO Good Grips Microfibre Spray Mop tackle dried-on spills?

This is where the scrubber really proves its worth. It shifted dried-on dog food with very little effort, which is exactly the sort of mess that a standard microfibre pad often struggles with.

The scrubber has a rough, scourer-like surface that lets you apply plenty of pressure without ending up on your hands and knees. Being able to release and lock it back with your foot is another thoughtful touch when you're halfway through cleaning.

Is the OXO Good Grips Microfibre Spray Mop good value?

At £38 RRP, it's definitely a premium spray mop, and you can pick up a perfectly serviceable mop for as little as £13. However, it feels well made, is comfortable to use and the scrubber gives it a clear advantage over budget models like the Beldray Pet Plus.

I'd still expect a spare pad at this price point. The supplied pad washed and dried well, but having a second one ready to swap in would make more sense if you mop regularly.

It's priced well above basic spray mops, and I think the extra cost is justified by the build quality and the scrubber. I'd happily buy it for a busy kitchen with pets, children or both.
