Our verdict

The grounds of Hotel Cheyenne featuring three buildings in the style of the Wild West

Howdy partner! Yeeha! There’s a snake in my boot! And all that jazz.

Widely regarded by Mumsnetters as the best themed Disney hotel, stepping inside Hotel Cheyenne immediately transports you to the world of Woody’s Round-Up.

The accommodation is spread out across several separate buildings with suitably Wild West names (Annie Oakley, Billy the Kid etc), devised to create the illusion that it is a Western town with façades and other decor inspired by popular representations of the American Old West. The buildings are nicely spaced out, so the site doesn't feel overcrowded and it doesn’t get too noisy, even at the height of the summer season.

As well as the Western decor, we loved the food and the staff were great, and the only real downside was the lack of a swimming pool.

As the hotel has a Wild West theme, there is not a Buzz Lightyear in sight. But Buzz fans can get their fix over at Discoveryland at Disneyland Park, helping our hero defeat the Evil Emperor Zurg on the Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast. You can also catch the whole Toy Story gang in Together: A Pixar Musical Adventure at the Walt Disney Studios Park, an immersive production, accompanied by a live orchestra, which was quite beautiful to watch.

A man hand in hand with two children walking in a courtyard towards a red building

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Cheyenne with our two children, aged five and six, for four nights at the end of July, during the summer holiday. It was the second time we had stayed at a hotel at Disneyland Paris. We previously stayed at Sequoia Lodge in February 2023.

What are the rooms like?

A green wooden building with the words 'Running Bear Hotel' written on the side

Our room was in Running Bear, the accommodation block located the furthest from the main hotel building. This was a bit of a pain when taking our luggage to our room, but on the plus side it was nice and quiet and made for a pleasant stroll on the way back from dinner each evening.

A wooden horseshoe-shaped mirror and a cowboy boot lamp

As you would expect, the room itself goes hard on the Wild West theme, from the faux cowhide bedding, to the wooden horseshoe mirror, to the striking cowboy boot lamp. The pattern on the curtains is the same as Woody’s shirt and images of Woody and yodelling cowgirl Jessie adorn everything from the bedside lamps to the coffee cups. As an aside, the tea and coffee-making facilities were excellent, with a good selection of drinks waiting for us.

Kettle, coffee machine and a paper cup featuring Jesse from Toy Story

The kids slept on a sofa bed (to compare, they got a comfy double bed when we stayed at Sequoia Lodge), but they were comfortable and slept well.  Our bed wasn’t the most comfortable I had ever slept in, but it was more than adequate.

The only slight gripe that I have about the room is the air con seemed to get less effective during our stay, which was a shame.

What activities are on offer at Hotel Cheyenne?

Character meet and greets are a huge part of the Disney experience and, as you would expect considering the hotel’s theme, Woody and Jessie from Toy Story appear on alternate days for photos with young fans in the Red Garter Saloon.

We found the queue wasn’t too long, but if your little ones aren’t great at waiting in line, they can pass the time at the Little Sheriffs indoor play area in the lobby, enjoying some Jessie and Woody colouring and catching up on their favourite Disney Junior TV shows.

The information desk and Little Sheriffs children's play area, with a horsehoe table and a TV showing cartoons

On the walk back from breakfast one morning, we noticed some beautiful ponies had appeared in the hotel grounds, offering rides for kids. However as each ride cost 12 Euros for just five minutes, we gave this particular activity a swerve.

One thing to be mindful of when booking is that Hotel Cheyenne does not have a swimming pool. We were aware of this when we booked, but thought we would be too busy in the parks to have time to swim in the hotel. However, when the temperature hit 35℃ halfway through our stay, we did regret this decision. (I was very jealous of the people in the parks who had the sense to bring their own handheld fans and neck fans with them.)

Unfortunately, guests at Cheyenne are not allowed to use any of the pools in the neighbouring hotels, even during a heatwave, although the woman at the information desk did offer to direct us to a public pool, which was around a 10-minute drive away from the park.

What was the food like?

A station wagon at the buffet at Hotel Cheyenne

The food at the Chuck Wagon Cafe at Hotel Cheyenne was pretty good. At dinner time, a substantial all-you-can-eat buffet offered a wide variety of hot and cold options, including classic cowboy favourites like steak, beef chili, and Tex-Mex chicken, while the outdoor barbecue served up a delicious meat feast including sausages and kebabs. The hotel’s ribs and chicken are smoked onsite and Cheyenne also prides itself on its homemade Asian specials.

Kids of all ages will enjoy the Mickey-shaped cheesy waffles and crispy potatoes, and there were plenty of pasta options to keep even the fussiest of little ones happy, including lasagne, ravioli and penne with a variety of tasty sauces to ladle on top.

Make sure you leave enough room for pudding, as when we stayed there was an amazing selection of tarts and cakes, including mini doughnuts decorated with icing the colour of Woody’s shirt and individual chocolate mousses topped with yellow sheriff badges.

When it came to breakfast, Cheyenne’s fried breakfasts were lacking tomatoes, mushrooms, hash browns and pork sausages (although their crispy bacon was excellent).  But we were in France and who needs a fry up when you can enjoy some amazing French pastries? Or some cheese and cold meats? Fruit salad and Greek yoghurt? Crepes? We were spoilt for choice.

As you may have guessed, the Wild West theme is evident throughout the dining hall, from the saddles atop the bar stools to the station wagons in the buffet area, plus a couple of saloon doors to boot.

What other amenities are available at Hotel Cheyenne?

A Western-themed General Store could be found just off the lobby, selling Disney souvenirs, toys, sweets and treats. There was also a Starbucks, which felt a little out of place in an old-fashioned cowboy town.

There was a small laundromat between our accommodation and the main hotel building, with a small charge to use the machines. However, the ice machine hidden within the laundromat was free, and proved a real lifesaver in the heat, although the queues for this got longer as word got around.

There were multiple electric vehicle (EV) charging points in both hotel car parks, including extra wide spaces for disabled drivers.

What is there to do nearby?

The parade at Disneyland Paris

Let’s face it, if you book a Disneyland Hotel for a holiday, you’re really only planning on doing one thing…hitting the parks!

The shuttle bus took us from the front of Hotel Cheyenne to the gates of Disneyland Paris in just six minutes. Alternatively, it took around 15 minutes to walk. The walk is nice and flat, so it’s perfect for wheelchairs, buggies and wagons.

Staying at a Disney Hotel meant we were allowed into both Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studio Parks an hour early, beating the crowds. Park tickets are not included in the hotel booking and must be booked separately.

Once inside the parks, there are rides that the whole family can enjoy, from the adrenaline rush of Avengers Assemble Flight Force to the recently revamped “it's a small world” ride. Our favourite rides as a family included Remy's Ratatouille Adventure, Spider-Man W.E.B. Adventure and the Buzz Lightyear Lazer Blast. There were also several stunning shows to catch, including The Lion King: Rhythms of the Pride Lands and Mickey and the Magician.

Mid to late afternoon is quieter at Walt Disney Studios Park, so this is the perfect time to visit the park’s most popular shows and attractions. However, we managed to avoid the queues with the Disneyland Paris app. It shows live queuing times, and allowed us to plan our day, and we found we rarely waited in line for longer than 10 minutes. The app is also great for booking restaurants too.

Walt Disney Studios Park is currently undergoing some major renovations. Studio 1 and all its services including Restaurant en Coulisse, Hep Cat Corner and the boutiques, will be closed until spring 2025. Renovations are also having an impact on walkways in the Production Courtyard, Toon Studio areas and Studio 1. When we went, a couple of rides were temporarily closed too, including Flying Carpets Over Agrabah. Renovations are also underway in the Disney Village, although many restaurants and boutiques remain open.

What's new at Disneyland Paris for 2024?

The Disney Electrical Sky Parade drones behind the Sleeping Beauty Castle. And Donald Duck.

New at Disneyland Paris for 2024 is the Disney Electrical Sky Parade, a dazzling display of drones above Sleeping Beauty Castle, a prelude to the daily fireworks spectacular. But you have to be quick if you want to catch this spectacle - the Disney Electrical Sky Parade is only scheduled to run until January 6th, 2025.

Also new this summer is the all-singing, all-dancing Million Splashes of Colour parade, but this is due to end on September 20th, 2024.

Alice in Wonderland at Disneyland Paris

Over in Walt Disney Studios Park, Alice & the Queen of Hearts: Back to Wonderland blew us away. The brand new show, a supercharged rock face-off between Alice and the Queen of Hearts, also featured the Queen’s playing card guards performing BMX stunts and trampolining Mome Rats. It was great fun and went down particularly well with my six-year-old, a staunch Alice in Wonderland fan.

If you are planning a visit for 2026 or beyond, you will be in for a treat as there are some exciting new attractions planned for Disneyland Paris, including the new World of Frozen. Meanwhile, Walt Disney Studios Park will become Disney Adventure World, which promises to bring immersive worlds inspired by the most popular Disney, Pixar and MARVEL stories - we can’t wait!

What Mumsnet users say about Hotel Cheyenne

The reception desk at Hotel Cheyenne

"We liked Cheyenne and the fact it was all small different units rather than one huge hotel. The breakfast was good and staff really nice. The room was spotless. The walk to the park was around 15 minutes for us but we are all adults. We would go back there." Recommended by Mumsnetter Flamingmentalcats

"We stayed at the Cheyenne and loved it. Theming was great, beds comfy and we walked to and from the park with ease. It doesn't have a pool but personally for us, it would have been just another thing to fit in! We went for 3 nights and had jammed packed days in the parks so a pool for us wasn't a huge deal. Another thing to consider, if you want to use extra magic hour (a huge perk of staying onsite) it might not be worth buying daily breakfast at the hotel. We didn't and instead just got crepes and coffees after magic hour each morning. Worked well for us. Staying at cheaper hotel allowed us extra money for things such as a one off character breakfast and a princess lunch which for us were worth it." Tried and tested by Mumsnetter Everybodysaycheese

"We stayed at Cheyenne last year, and would definitely do again. The extra hour was worth it for us, plus the convenience of hopping on a bus that only took a few minutes to get back to the hotel for a rest in the afternoon." Recommended by Mumsnet user LouLou198
