I was a little skeptical about testing the Eufy E20—could a robot vacuum also double as a stick vacuum and handheld, or was that asking too much from one machine? But after six weeks of testing, I’m surprisingly impressed by its performance in all three modes.

Setting up the vacuum cleaner was easy; we had it mapping the house in less than 10 minutes, even before we had downloaded the app. Its cleaning power was great too—the E20 adapts seamlessly to different surfaces, providing powerful suction across all floor types. The laser mapping technology is impressively accurate, eliminating the need for video footage collection. Plus, its compact design makes it the only vacuum cleaner you need, saving valuable storage space.

The handheld and stick attachments are effective and easy to use, performing just as well as other cordless vacuums—though switching between functionalities can get a bit messy. A smaller bin also means you’ll need to empty it more often when using the handheld vacuum mode, but it’s a minor inconvenience in an otherwise versatile machine.

What's in the box?

How easy is the Eufy E20 3-in-1 Robot Vacuum to set up?

It was surprisingly easy to set up the E20, it took less than 10 minutes to assemble and get it going.

While you won't find an instruction manual in the box, set up was so easy, you really don’t need it. There are some basic instructions on the box and a QR code for more information.

Then, once you download the app there are more ways to customise your clean. You can edit the map of your house, set up no-go zones and create cleaning routines to work with your schedule.

How easy is the Eufy E20 3-in-1 Robot Vacuum to use day-to-day?

Eufy E20 3-in-1 Robot Vacuum Cleaner

The Eufy E20 is definitely a robot vacuum cleaner first with some additional features. It functions best when used as a robot vac, but the other attachments are really handy to have, and when space is a premium, it’s great to have the benefit of a robot vacuum with the flexibility of a handheld when we need it.

It’s very easy to switch between the three different modes (robot, handheld and stick). You simply lift the motor off the main unit and plug in the attachment that you need. However, one thing I didn't like was that if there was debris in the unit, it fell out before I could put the stick on, which is quite annoying to make a mess before you start cleaning!

You can start and pause cleans manually on the machine or via the app. I found the basic functionalities on the app really intuitive to use. You can use it to start cleaning with the tap of a button, adjust the suction power, or even schedule cleans for individual rooms or for the whole house at a time that works for you.

"The navigation is almost flawless. It easily avoids obstacles and very rarely gets stuck, even near our shoe rack the trailing laces are reasonably safe." - MNHQ Head of Content, Tina

There are three ways to set the E20 to clean on the robot mode. You can either simply select start and it will clean the whole floor, use the 'room' mode to select the areas you want it to tackle, or draw a zone and send the robot away on a mission to address the mess in that area. The first two are really useful and easy to operate, but using the zoning function is a little more complex. You draw a box on the map where you want the robot vac to go, though it's a little clunky, and you can’t always get it to go exactly where you want. Also, while naming rooms is easy on the app, merging rooms so that the map is more accurate doesn’t always work.

Another small bugbear is that the battery indicator is located on the right-hand side of the machine, making it a little awkward to monitor if you’re right-handed. I didn't find the power button very intuitive too, as you have to press and hold it to turn the vacuum on, and then you press down to select different suction modes. However, the suction is really good, and it’s very easy to manoeuvre.

You can get a decent clean on hardwood floors on the eco mode, which is the quietest setting, but as with most vacuums, when the suction becomes more powerful, the machine is noisier. I’d say it’s on par with most handheld vacuums. It does get very loud when emptying the dust unit but this lasts for less than a minute.

The battery life is really good. Obviously on higher power modes the battery life shortens, but the quick charge is a huge bonus—with eufy claiming it charges 40% faster than similar vacuums.

How well does the Eufy E20 3-in-1 Robot Vacuum Cleaner perform on carpets?

I was really pleased with how well the E20 performed on carpets while using the robot vacuum mode. You get the best results on this mode, but the stick attachment performed as well as other cordless vacuum cleaners I’ve tested.

The vacuum deals with dust, dirt and crumbs really well, and it’s reasonably good at picking up hair too, though you do need to clear the filters on the stick attachment fairly regularly to maintain optimum suction.

However, like most robot vacuum cleaners, the E20 struggles with corners, and during testing I sometimes found debris left at the edge of the room after a clean.

How well does the Eufy E20 Robot Vacuum perform on hard floors?

I’m really pleased with how well it cleans hardwood floors and laminate. Even large crumbs are cleared, and it transitions from carpets to hardwood floors with ease.

Is the Eufy E20 3-in-1 Robot Vacuum well designed?

Eufy E20 3-in-1 Robot Vacuum

The E20 is surprisingly compact, measuring just 350 x 350 x 118mm—smaller than the Mumsnet favourite Eufy L60. In a small Victorian terrace, those extra centimetres really make a difference.

The build quality is solid, and the parts have a premium feel. The three buttons on the unit aren’t backlit, making them hard to see in low light, but since most functions are controlled via the app, they’re rarely needed.

As a three-in-one vacuum, the E20 transforms into a stick vacuum or dustbuster—a really clever space-saving feature. As the vacuum itself is really tiny, it's also wonderfully light in the handheld mode.

To use the vacuum as a handheld, you simply press the red button to detach the motor, and pull out the nozzle for handheld use—a simple and effective design.

However, attaching the stick nozzle to the motor initially was quite stiff and took some practice to get it right, but it’s loosened up over time and now it’s very easy to use.

The larger stick attachment doesn’t fit in the main unit but can be stored on the wall using a mount.

How easy is it to empty the Eufy E20 Robot Vacuum?

The E20 has a small dustbin on the main unit so requires emptying more frequently than standard robot vacs, but with the auto-empty station, this doesn’t require any additional work. The vacuum cleaner will navigate back to base to empty itself in the dock whenever it’s required.

When you've finished using the vacuum in stick or handheld mode, you simply return the motor to the main unit and the machine will auto empty if you’ve used the vac for more than 10 minutes. You can change the setting in the app to auto empty sooner if needed too. It’s a really nifty feature—however, when you remove the stick attachment dust and hair falls out of the motor unit making a bit of a mess.

Emptying the dustbin is also very noisy, and it gave our six-month-old son quite a fright, so it’s probably something you want to avoid doing too late at night if you don’t want to wake anyone up.

The three-litre dust bag is large enough to last more than a month which is great, though I was a little disappointed that the Eufy only came with one bag, and you need to buy more from the Eufy website.

Cleaning the brushes is really intuitive, and you simply unclip the brush from the lock and pull it out. I haven’t needed to clean the filters any more than other vacuum cleaners I've tested.

Does the Eufy E20 3-in-1 Robot Vacuum offer good value for money?

The three-in-one design of the Eufy E20 makes this robot vacuum cleaner much more practical than other options for most households. Most of us live in homes with limited storage space, without the luxury of space for two vacuum cleaners. The addition of a removable handheld unit on a robot vac is a game changer.

However, the handheld and stick attachments are a little compromised, making this a great option only if the robot vac unit can handle most of your cleaning. I think pet owners would struggle with the small dustbin on the unit, and if you live in a house with a lot of levels, you might not feel the benefit.

Overall though, I’d recommend it, especially for those hesitant about robo vacs due to the need for a second vacuum for stairs. At £449, it’s cheaper than Mumsnet's best robot vacuum pick, the Eufy X10 Pro Omni, though it does lack a mop. And while there are cheaper options, the built-in handheld and stick unit adds value, making it a smart investment for hassle-free cleaning.

How we tested

We tested the Eufy E20 for six weeks on hardwood, rugs, stairs and a carpeted room. During the testing period, the E20 was used almost daily.

We live in a three-bed terrace which is also at the tail end of a renovation project, so there are constantly tools and ladders, plus prams and so many shoes to deal with.
