What safety features does the Cosatto Acorn 2 i-Size car seat have?
Having received a strong ADAC rating of 1.9 when used with the Acorn i-Size Car Seat Base or the Rotating Family Base, the Acorn 2 is considered to be a safe car seat for infants up to 15 months.
For added reassurance, the seat features a flip-out Side Impact Protection System, designed to absorb and disperse force in the event of a side collision. Combined with the reinforced shell and secure ISOFIX fitting, this gave Tamsin confidence throughout testing that her son was well-protected on every journey.
The seat itself is well padded – especially when used with the newborn nest and fitted with reinforced harness straps and a strong locking mechanism on the ISOFIX base, which remains secure even with the 360-degree rotation of the Rotating Family Base. The straps are very snug and can feel a little fiddly at first, but Tamsin felt it was reassuring to know they were firmly locked in place rather than too loose in a hurry.
For younger babies, the newborn nest adds both comfort and support, helping keep them safely positioned from birth. The Acorn 2 can also be installed rearward-facing using a standard three-point seat belt, which is useful if ISOFIX points aren’t available in the car. When paired with either approved base, the seat is i-Size (R129) compliant, meeting the latest European safety standards.
What is the Cosatto Acorn 2 i-Size car seat like to use day to day?
Overall, Tamsin feels that the Cosatto Acorn 2 i-Size fits well into everyday family life, once you’ve familiarised yourself with the setup. While the instructions are included in the booklet, she found that watching a YouTube video was the easiest way to understand the initial installation and adjustments, particularly when it came to tightening the harness correctly. The process isn’t difficult, but it does take a little getting used to at first.
In daily use, the seat fits comfortably into the back of a Kia Sportage without feeling bulky or intrusive, which is reassuring for families with similar-sized SUVs. The rotating base (when used) makes lifting a baby in and out much easier, especially in tighter parking spaces.
The one-handed harness and headrest adjustment is a real highlight. Both adjust simultaneously, meaning there’s no need to rethread the harness as your child grows. This makes quick tweaks easy when your baby hits a growth spurt or needs adjusting while out and about. For newborns, the removable newborn nest helps cocoon smaller babies, offering both comfort and a secure fit.
Adjusting the harness itself is straightforward once you know how it works: simply press and hold the adjuster button to loosen the straps, then pull the central strap to tighten. While the buckle isn’t magnetic, unlike some other car seats on the market, it still feels solid and secure once fastened. The harness can feel a little fiddly at first, particularly when positioning the straps around a wriggly baby, but this improves with regular use.
The Acorn 2 works as part of a travel system and is compatible with Cosatto pushchairs including the Cosatto Wow 3 travel system, using the correct car seat adapters. It can also be used with Cosatto’s universal car seat adapters on many other pushchairs that support Maxi-Cosi–style car seat fittings, offering flexibility beyond the Cosatto range. As compatibility can vary, it’s best to check individual pushchair guidance before buying.
