Mumsnetters are big fans of Bosch. Whether it's their dishwashers, fridge freezers or even smaller goods like kettles, the brand comes up top trumps time and time again. In fact, they reign supreme as the #1 choice on our best kettle round-up, and after testing the Styline out, I can see why.

My favourite feature of the Bosch was the variable temperature controls – I loved being able to alter the temperature in 10-degree increments between 70°C and 100°C, which meant the water was perfectly tailored to both my morning coffee and evening mint tea. The keep warm function was a nice touch too, though you do need to press it while it's still boiling; you can't select it after your water is ready.

The main downside is the price, but you do get what you pay for. It's a luxury product, and I would honestly expect to pay up to £100 for a kettle with variable temperature controls. Its two-year guarantee does add reassurance about the premium cost too, plus it felt study and robust during testing – this is clearly a kettle built to last.

How easy is the Bosch TWK8633GB Styline Kettle to set up?

After unboxing the Styline, there were a few steps required before I could indulge in a cuppa. It's fairly standard kettle set-up – fill with water, boil, and discard, before repeating a few times – except the instructions specified that vinegar also needed to be added to the water.

Then, it just needed a good rinse before use (I was very thorough with this to avoid vinegar-infused tea).

What is the Bosch TWK8633GB Styline Kettle like to use?

Bosch TWK8633GB Styline Kettle

The Bosch Styline was very easy to use. I just needed to hit the on button on the base to start the boil. It automatically sets to 100°C, but the '+' and '-' buttons can be used to choose between the four settings: 70°C, 80°C, 90°C, and 100°C. In comparison, I did feel like Sage's The Smart Kettle offered a little more range here, as it has temperatures in five-degree increments between 80°C to 100°C and labels the different drink each setting is for on its base. However, overall I awarded Bosch the top spot as the Styline retails cheaper, is faster, and offers better value for money.

There's a handy 30-minute keep warm function too; I found this particularly useful on busy mornings when I knew I'd need a second (OK, third) cup of coffee. My only gripe here was that you need to press the keep warm button while it's still boiling, you can't decide to switch it on to maintain the temperature right after it's finished.

The water gauge was easy to see, and I loved that it boiled just one cup, saving water and energy if I was only catering for myself while working from home. It was comfortable to hold too, even when full, and the spout pours a nice, mess-free stream of boiling water.

In terms of speed, it's a fast and powerful kettle. It took around 45 seconds to boil one cup of water to 100°C, and at maximum capacity (six cups) it took less than three minutes to reach 90°C. Its power does make it a noisy kettle, however, and even the beeps to indicate it has boiled were quite loud.

Bosch TWK8633GB Styline Kettle: how does it look?

Bosch TWK8633GB Styline Kettle

I liked the look of the Bosch; right out of the box I thought it was very stylish. Personally, I do prefer the retro style of the De'Longhi Icona Metallics (especially as that comes as a matching kettle and toaster set), but when it comes to looks, the Styline is certainly not to be sniffed at. With a glossy black and stainless steel exterior, it's a good-looking kettle, and I think it'd look fantastic in kitchens with a modern aesthetic.

I also loved the chunky handle and large button on top to open and close the lid – this made refilling it really easy. As the water boils, the temperature it's at after 70°C lights up in red. I thought this was another nice detail so I could see progress and estimate how long was left to boil.

Size-wise, it's quite a bulky kettle. It wasn't too obstructive on my worktops, but it isn't as compact as some other models, something to bear in mind if you have a bijou kitchen.

How easy is the Bosch Styline Kettle to keep clean?

I live in London, so I'm always on the lookout for the best kettles for hard water. I felt this performed well – after a month of testing, I didn't feel the need to use a kettle descaler (yet!), and I found the removable limescale filter was effective at keeping my drinks clear.

Being in such a hard water area, one problem I do find with kettles is excessive watermarks on the exterior, especially with fully stainless steel designs. As only part of the exterior is metallic, this has been less of a problem with the Bosch, though it does still need an occasional wipe down to keep it looking its best.

Price: does the Bosch TWK8633GB Styline Kettle offer value for money?

Yes, I would say so. At £81, it is a pricey kettle, but I think it's worth it. It felt sturdy and did a really good job during testing, plus I loved the premium features that set this apart from more basic kettles.

Keep your eyes peeled for discounts too – I've seen it reduced to £65 in recent weeks, which is an absolute bargain for a variable temperature kettle.
