Laura Brand, would you stand by your man? Trigger rape.

ItalianChips · 12/10/2026 21:11

Russell Brand has been charged with 3 counts of rape, 3 counts of sexual assault and 1 count of indecent assault.
He was at court today for day 1 and his wife was there supporting him.
I’m not judging her it isn’t a situation I’d ever want to be in but it’s made me think… if the police knocked on my door and my husband was charged would I support him?
I don’t think I would, it must be hard if the man you’ve married has always been loving and respectful to you but I know for a fact how hard it is to get these cases to trial.

I had a horrible run in with him the ladies toilet at the comedy store about 20 years ago (no crime committed). The man is a predator, no doubt.

Wtf was he doing in the ladies toilet?

It doesn’t mean they are innocent - they are to be treated as if innocent

they are guilty from the time they commit the crime

This.^^

The girlfriend of 'my' rapist not only stood by him,she smirked, stared me out, shot me dirty looks, shouted at me outside the court (and again in the local supermarket)threatened to 'thump me' and made it clear she didn't believe me (and the other lady who had accused him)

He walked around, cocky as fuck and was laughing about everything

She knew he'd been unfaithful to her,she knew what he was like, she knew his attitude to women, she heard what was said in court (twice over) and still stood by him

Some people just can't see what is in front of them

(He got away with it-2 women within 3 months (me and the other lady) came forward and we where not believed)

She's still out there, still with him and has been standing by him with 4 more women accusing him (over 11 years)

She just will not accept her boyfriend is a rapist and believes all these women are 'out to get him' for their own reasons

I honestly don't know what it will take for her to stop and think 'well actually...'

My rapist got found not guilty to, it’s a shit feeling isn’t it. I still feel really angry 2 years on that a jury believed his bullshit.
I found out after that the man who raped me lost his wife, kids and job within weeks of being arrested. I’d never met her but presume he must have abused her in some way.
Im sorry you’ve been through this, it’s a tough thing to have to carry 💐

This.^^

@ElectoralControversy said this earlier which explains it so well

As mentioned above, "innocent until proven guilty" just means that no punishment should be exacted on someone until the evidence on the case has been heard - they should be treated as if innocent.
Some people seem to think that it means that the accused exists in some kind of Schrodinger-esque quantum state until after the trial.
Either he carried out one or more rapes and sexual assaults or he didn't, what happens in court has absolutely no bearing on that, only on whether he will be punished.

I’m sorry for what happened to you

yes - I’ve been thinking the same - both KP and LG - they will know his sexual proclivities only too well - especially over a marriage of ten years or so - Leopards don’t change their spots

I'm so sorry the same happened to you

The system is a joke-i won't list what happened while I was in that waiting room in court (as it was badly handled by every single person there, which threw me massively) but the one thing I will say is he should never have been put in a room opposite, where him,her and some bloke they seemed to know could sit, smirk and shout abuse at me

I was in a right state by the time I got to the dock

Then I was twisted into 'what knickers where you wearing?' (Granny pants) 'What clothes where you wearing?' (Jeans,a baggy hoodie and a tee).'What footwear where you wearing?' (Trainers)

Like fabric held the answer to his actions

Hes still out there, still hurting women and still has her by his side, bleating on that he's done nothing wrong

Wouldn't surprise me if he's abusing her and she can't see it so can't break away

God this makes me angry. I was also told to read out what I was wearing to bed.. knickers and a vest top. I was asked by a fucking woman defense lawyer.. can you not see how that’s confusing for men?
I heard on the news the other day that they want to change the situation with waiting rooms and entrance/exit doors in court casss like this, it’s disgusting that victims share the same area. It’s all vile though, the police you report to, the fight with the CPS , the courtroom.
Its why I always believe women, nobody would put themselves through that crap for nothing, it’s years of torture 💐

The guy that assaulted me has been found guilty of 14 charges (multiple women) and has another 11 charges. Pending sentencing
his wife is standing by him. I couldn’t

The girlfriend of the man who assaulted me came to the trail to support him even though the evidence was overwhelming, there was actually an eyewitness to the attack and a load of CCTV of him following me and me trying to shake him off. I cannot think what rubbish he must have come out with to make her think he was innocent other than to say he was drunk (counts for nothing legally) and to "play down" the severity of the attack. Anyway off he went to jail for several years, and the next time he was up in court it was for attempting to throttle his girlfriend in a pub and then trying to glass the bar staff who intervened.

He’s very articulate and while he’s not my cup of tea can no doubt be charismatic and charming if you like that kind of thing.

So he has probably told her everyone is just jealous of him or the “establishment” is gunning for him because he speaks the truth blah blah.

And some women (and men) hear what they want to hear!

Ratcherinthepye
I don't think RB is articulate. He rambles on using a lot of words that actually mean nothing. Pointless words.

Well yes, if someone has committed a crime they are guilty.

Autumngirl5 · 16/10/2026 22:49

What about innocent until proven guilty? We seem to have forgotten this when it comes to celebrities. Everyone is so keen to jump on them. And maybe she loves him and is concerned about his mental health?

Some horrible stories here, my sympathy is with @ItalianChips @Thewonderfuldollypartonsbra and everyone whose abuser was found not guilty or didn’t even make it to court 😔💐

As said you are guilty as soon as you commit the crime, not when a later court determines if you will be punished or not

the innocent until proven innocent is a legal principle used in this process - it doesn’t apply outside of the court

I'm amazed at how many values I thought were universal to modern post enlightenment societies (innocent until proven guilty) are not.

Anyway most women do stand by the bloke when it comes to the crunch for a host of reasons

I wouldn't judge my husband by the standards of the court, which are notoriously bad for convicting for rape. I'd judge my inner feeling whether they had done it. In this instance, the volume of accusations and the large number of women accusing him would make my blood run cold.

Tinydanceer · 17/10/2026 00:03

I have read the thread. There is a ‘lynch mob’ mentality’ around now which I find very worrying. Especially when it is celebrities involved.

OneoftheWeddingPeople · 17/10/2026 06:48

I disagree. I don’t see lynch mobs just general revulsion on hearing the testimonys.

There is definitely a problem in giving men power. It’s Savile effect all over again. I think giving men power and adoration is to be avoided they can’t deal with it. I see it at DDs school the boys on the rugby scholarships lord it and have become misogynistic monsters in a way the normal boys have not.

Well if you’ve read the thread and understood the discussions I don’t see why you’re still bleating about innocent until proven.

I will quote one explanation above from @Tinydanceer : the innocent until proven innocent is a legal principle used in this process - it doesn’t apply outside of the court

So again - what do you mean by repeating this mantra? It seems very mindless at this point!

I have seen this man in a very dim light for a long time and listening to his own admissions of his lifestyle and his behaviour I do not believe he is of good character. The evidence presented thus far hasn’t helped with this either. I am being perfectly reasonable in coming to the conclusion that I think it’s highly likely he could be guilty of such a thing.

But it’s not like I’m clamouring for the trial to be abandoned and for him to be thrown in jail forever!

It’s true. We see it in many footballers too. And in America so many of these college sport stars terrorising women.

More recently I’m seeing a lot of popular charismatic pastors, spiritual leaders and fitness influences exposed for bad behaviour.I suspect part of what lead to that is being corrupted by the elevated status and influence they wield in their communities. We need to stop putting these men on a pedestal.

OneoftheWeddingPeople · 17/10/2026 07:06

Absolutely. The structures that enable this behaviour need to be dismantled. One of the victims was a junior working with him who was coerced into sexual contact to placate him to please their bosses who wanted to keep “the talent” happy. The enablers should be held to account too.

urgh he’s so gross

what did he do/say?

Basically came on to me. I was 20, in the girls loos by myself.

I said something like “erm, no thank you” and got out of there. What people maybe don’t notice is that he’s huge. Really tall, and although he looks slim he’s actually pretty well built.

And he’s got wild, Peter Sutcliff eyes
