Poking holes in condoms!

condomgate · 20/10/2026 11:43

Just to make it absolutely clear, this isn’t about DH and I.

My friend is 3 months pregnant, her husband is in shock because they were using condoms every time and not one split.

She’s just admitted to me that she used a pin to poke holes in them. Now call me naive but one, I thought that a tiny pin hole would not be able to get somebody pregnant and also I think this is a crime? I’m disgusted with her and I did tell her that.

Regular poster, name changed.

DH and I are good friends with her and her DH and I just don’t feel okay about this. I feel like she’s done something so wrong that I want to avoid them for as long as possible.

Completely agree. I sincerely hope some of these responses are just "rage bait".

Some PPs don't seem to realise that two things can be true at once. Yes, a man stringing a woman along is morally reprehensible and deceitful, but so is poking holes in a condom. You can't condone and justify one act due to another.

At what point does the OP say that he was stringing her along?
A lot of overactive imaginations on here adding stuff about the man involved that isn't in the OP's comment.

HappyLizard23 · 20/10/2026 13:23

rape pure and simple. I’d be reporting her to the police and could never be friends or speak to her again. So gusting disgusting and those defending her are equally as disgusting

Washandblowdryplease · 20/10/2026 13:24

There are no circumstances that justify this. It is utterly abhorrent.

Cla7 · 20/10/2026 13:24

PinkAnimalPrint · 20/10/2026 11:47

If this is real, I can’t see why he is in shock given condoms are the least effective form of contraception bar crossing your fingers.

This thread is wild on so many levels. What more effective contraception methods are available to men than condoms? And to preempt the reply I’m going to get…Yes, there’s sterilisation but what if he might want children in future? I guess no one would recommend a woman to get sterilised just because she doesn’t want children right now.

Because for some women, it doesn’t matter what a woman does, the fault just has to lie with a man. No amount of projection, distortion or denial is too much.

ManyMaybes · 20/10/2026 11:54

Outrageous responses on here just dismissing this behaviour as somehow acceptable. Consent is required, how is that not obvious?

This is Mumsnet. There are always women twisting themselves into knots to prove that the man was somehow in the wrong.

Deadringer · 20/10/2026 13:27

Its a shitty thing to do, if this is true, which I doubt. Women take on almost the whole load when it comes to having dc, mentally, physically and emotionally, deliberately having one with an unwilling partner would be absolute madness.

Catza · 20/10/2026 13:27

AgeingMillennial · 20/10/2026 12:14

Stringing women along is so cruel and irresponsible that I just don’t care. I know SO many men who have done this. Who now happily have the families they ‘weren’t sure if they wanted’ with a younger woman while his ex is 45 and childless not by choice.

This hypothetical 45-year-old had the agency to leave the relationship at any point. I am saying it as a 42-year-old who's 48 y/o ex is now expecting a child with a 27 y/o. Fucking despicable behaviour to force pregnancy when she could have easily left the relationship.

There are some incredibly sexist women, especially on here

Meh.

Do they have kids? What’s the situation?

Don’t blame her if he’s strung her along for years or similar

What an absolutely wild first response.

Me and DH have 1 child together (he has 2 from a previous relationship) and due to him being older than me, he absolutely doesn't want any more. We discussed this before trying for our DS. After becoming a Mum, I would now love another but obviously respect his position and have come to terms with the fact that we will stop at 1.
He is on the waiting list for the snip so that I can eventually come off hormonal contraception.
What absolutely shocks me is that when discussing this with friends (using the term loosely), so far I've had 6 different people say I should just stop my pill and not tell him as time is ticking for me to get pregnant before he gets the snip 😳
Honestly shocked that women think that's ok...I definitely see them in a different light now too.

Seems to be anecdotal evidence for quite a bit of contraception deception going on (made me remember Gavin and Stacey?).

I genuinely wonder if this is a major reason why contraceptive “failure” rates are as high as they are!

AnneLovesGilbert · 20/10/2026 13:34

When are you telling him?

YankSplaining · 20/10/2026 13:36

VinegarBinegar · 20/10/2026 12:00

She wouldn’t because she could have an abortion.

Not every woman feels that having an abortion is a decision she can live with.

I can’t believe that really is your way of thinking and you made this comment for shock value. If it is you really are one sick individual.

ichifanny · 20/10/2026 13:38

It’s pretty shoddy behaviour but men are perfectly able to abstain from sex or have a vasectomy if they really feel that strongly about not conceiving , condoms aren’t a 100 per cent success rate .

Cheese55 · 20/10/2026 13:41

2BarbieOrNot2Barbie · 20/10/2026 11:58

I’ve always wondered how that works in practice. Surely most people just take them out of the wrapper just before use. When would you have time to get a pin out? Think my partner would notice if I stopped everything to get a condom, open it in the bathroom, rummaged around for a pin and then poked holes in it before coming back to the bedroom?

Edited for a typo

Edited

You prick them through the outside wrapper

OonaStubbs · 20/10/2026 13:42

At the end of the day, if a woman wants to have a baby, she needs to find a man who wants one just as much as she does. Or use an anonymous sperm donor and AI.

Can we say that to women and ban on demand abortions? Thought not.

Worktillate · 20/10/2026 13:43

Having read through the responses I am actually stunned at how many posters have managed to justify what she has done based on context we don't have. A context that really shouldn't make a difference anyway. It doesn't matter the reasons why, it's dishonest, deceitful and manipulative and results in a child being brought into the world that isn't wanted by both parties.

Frazzled89 · 20/10/2026 13:45

AgeingMillennial · 20/10/2026 11:59

Tell men that!

And women too, as many women on here don't seem to understand it either.

alcovecupboards · 20/10/2026 13:45

It's rape in all but name. 'Stealthing' is rape. This is rape. Utterly disgusted by the number of people treating this as acceptable or excusable here.

You’d discussed only having one child together before having your son though. What if you’d agreed to having two, and it was very important to you to the extent that you’d have ended the relationship and found another partner if he said only one, and then he’d changed his mind?

TrepidationOfTheSpheres · 20/10/2026 12:51

Really not convinced this is a real thread either.

but for those wondering, yes small holes can be an issue - back in the 90s at some point, there was a campaign for condom use in South Africa (I think) to prevent HIV spread and for contraception, except the condoms were stapled to the leaflets advising how to use them (religious area where they would not normally be used), leaving almost invisible holes. People were then told not to use them after all, and the incident led to damaged trust in public health campaigns for a while. I don't think it's known how many additional pregnancies and/or cases of virus transmission occurred, as I don't think it would be easily measured, but it was certainly a concern.

Click bait thread. OP disappeared but has generated a ton of content.

What size do you think sperms are? Confused

My thoughts exactly!
OP thinks they're like slightly smaller tadpoles.
