FOUR out of FIVE new jobs went to foreigners in the past decade, new report reveals

Four in five jobs created over the past decade have been taken by migrants.

Of the 3.7million new roles recorded under the PAYE system since 2014, just 734,000 were taken by UK nationals, a think-tank has found.

EU citizens accounted for 408,000 jobs, while the vast majority – 2.5million – went to migrants from the rest of the world, the Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) said, with most of the surge coming since the pandemic.

The think-tank warned that while employers gained 'unprecedented access to overseas labour', taxpayers have been forced to absorb the cost of millions of Britons being 'written off' and left on benefits.

As the number of migrant workers soared by 2.1million from 2020, the number of people receiving out-of-work benefits across the UK rose by 2.3million.

More than one in four (29 per cent) of the jobs that went to migrant workers from outside Europe were in health and social work.

So much for British jobs for British people!

Do we think this is due to Brits being 'too lazy to work' or because of a combination of employers wanting to pay lower wages and offer worse working conditions to migrants/preferring to employ migrants/not wanting to invest in training Brits/diversity hire tick boxes etc.

I’m still wondering what jobs @OpenScroller ‘s kids are looking for as it seems the majority being stolen’ by foreigners are either highly skilled- surgeon, Dr etc or low paid - carer, cleaner, porter

Teenagerantruns · 14/10/2026 18:21

It will be carers, l live in a town with loads of care homes they cant get uk staff to work here so employ migrants.
Also we have a big tourism industry they can't get staff do lots of Ukraine, l dont see the problem they work and pay tax.

FlowerVases · 14/10/2026 18:21

PumpkinSeasonIsHere · 14/10/2026 18:19

I don’t know what the cleaner/carer bit has to do with it? And the bus driver thing was for people who are ALREADY bus drivers. Just saying.

(You would need Dutch in order to work as a carer anyway)

Vote Leave did we? 🤣

A lot of low paid hard work jobs often 24/7 are done by immigrants. Young British people don't even apply for them.

It looks as if The Times has already had to retract this misinformation.

I think that is a quote by a Sky reporter not the Times.

MN? Left wing? Where?

Exactly. There are significant numbers of very vocal posters with views aligned to the Conservatives, Reform and Restore.

Dragonscaledaisy · 14/10/2026 18:19

That article's not data though - it's opinion. I'm not going to debate with you anymore because it's a waste of my time and I would rather spend that out canvassing, lobbying and doing other things to effect real, meaningful change both politically and in my community. Posting endlessly on MN achieves nothing.

Edited

You could save time by using social media for canvassing and lobbying rather than 'being out' doing it. But you don't believe that exists so do enjoy your door knocking and pamphlets.

Why are you talking to me though? It’s completely irrelevant to what I posted.

Did you reply to the wrong post?

I doubt he’s say that they’d had to retract if they hadn’t somehow. They’d sue him.

That's how it's reported in the MSM. You can google the outlets reporting it.

How absolutely pathetic you accuse someone of being a bot/stirrer because you dislike the subject and think MN is some sort of protected space for you where you shouldn't have to see anything discussed you don't like 😂

As a parent of teens and young adults who have been struggling to get jobs (and I know they are far from the only ones out of their peers), I think it's an important topic for discussion.

Have your young adults applied for jobs as a carer? Cleaner?

Persephonia1966 · 14/10/2026 18:24

FlowerVases · 14/10/2026 18:20

Most people can work in care. But it's too hard, not 9-5 hours and too low paid for most British young people.

Most people can work in care. Most people can't do a good job working in care by which I mean be consistently the sort of person that you would want looking after your own elderly parent even at the end of a long shift and even when all sorts of stuff is happening in their personal life to distract them. It takes a certain amount of physical capability but also a lot of hard and soft skills to do right.

Greenseawitch · 14/10/2026 18:24

I thought that according to Reform immigrants were mostly here to claim benefits...so which is it?

Also these so called stats come from the Centre for Social Justice, a think tank founder by politicians including Ian Duncan Smith and has ties to the Conservative party.

It is not an independent, unbiased source of information. It's just right wing propaganda.

ilovesooty · 14/10/2026 18:25

Dragonscaledaisy · 14/10/2026 17:50

Well any mention of the 'right' has people literally frothing. Let's rephrase that to a forum largely full of Labour supporters.

"literally frothing"? 🤣

DorsetKnobBiscuit · 14/10/2026 18:25

Monty36 · 14/10/2026 18:19

That is a long time. I would have wanted all UK graduates to be in a job before 15 months has arrived.

I'm sure many of them are.

Do you think that foreigners are likely to be employed ahead of your British kids then? What sort of jobs are your kids applying for.?.

Look at any KFC or BP etc. Very few English kids working in them these days. Even in almost all white towns. Usually middle aged asians

LakieLady · 14/10/2026 18:27

friedaklein · 14/10/2026 17:01

They both work AND claim benefits, thus taking British jobs and draining the economy. The sly muggles!

Schrodinger's immigrants!

Completecare · 14/10/2026 18:27

OpenScroller · 14/10/2026 17:02

I should imagine a vast majority of those with families will be claiming top up benefits like housing benefit, universal credit, child benefit and also using services like the NHS, schools, etc while paying very little in.

We are also paying the same benefits to Brits who can't find a job.

You do the Math.

Only if the new jobs they've 'taken' were really poorly paid. You can't have it all ways

those middle aged Asians probably own the BP

But they still can't claim.benefits for 5 years, as far as I know.

Raise the pay and reduce the load on people working in care - and you would no doubt be able to recruite more than immigrants.

It'll be interesting to see what the OP has to add to this conversation when she returns to the thread.

anniegun · 14/10/2026 18:32

No suprise the Times has already retracted its version of the story for being wrong

dizzydizzydizzy · 14/10/2026 18:33

The usual misunderstanding that correlation does not equal causation!!!!

These figures do not tell us that migrants are taking jobs that British people could have taken or that migrants have caused more British people to claim benefits. We don’t know whether the benefit
claimants are qualified for the jobs, able to travel to them, are well enough to do the jobs, can fit their childcare responsibilities around the jobs etc etc etc.
