Last month it was my partner of 4 years birthday
we have a 1 year old son.

im cringing writing this by the way….
he hates birthdays & Xmas. He’s very awquard 🙄
I asked him so many times leading to his birthday what would you like?
I’ve bought him stuff every year he just doesn’t use it want so I said I prefer to get you something you truly want or need.
he made it clear he wasn’t interested didn’t want nothing but anything I did he was grateful for.
so I thought I’m not putting him through all gifts etc he hates it so I got him a £100 voucher for his fav clothes shop and we was going out for dinner that night (our treat) got him cards too and a little daddy gift from our son.

on the morning I gave it him with our son .. an hour later he was crying in the kitchen!!!!! I said what is wrong!??????? He said don’t matter. I said no tell me what is wrong!?
he said you don’t fkin love me you got me f*ck all you tight bitch !!!!!! And proceeded to cry!!!!!! Packed all his stuff and left after he majorly kicked off. (He has an empty house he owns that he was gonna rent out) he’s gone back there not been back since. No apology nothing. He still fetches our son.

im still gob smacked. Am I the one in the wrong????? Please be honest.
by the way he’s a grown 50 year old x

It sounds like he has something wrong with him. Seriously. Mental or physical health issues? Because this is not a normal way to behave.

pk2060 · 19/09/2026 22:31

Ridiculous behaviour buying a voucher for his birthday. You have been together for 4 years FFS. You should have known what he would want. No wonder the poor bloke was so upset. Hopefully he finds someone who appreciates him.

Are you her DP?

ASimpleLampoon · 19/09/2026 22:51

He's cheating and caused the argument as an excuse to go off to the other property to meet them.

Fast800goingforit · 19/09/2026 22:52

He was 100% looking for an excuse to end things. You haven't done anything wrong from what you've posted. Had things been difficult with having a child together? On the plus side he is maintaining a relationship with his child.

Wooky073 · 19/09/2026 23:01

Sounds like game playing behaviour to me.
could be trauma around birthdays for to childhood, could be a manipulation tactic as he wanted to breakup bit didn’t have the guts to be adult about it. She he treated a situation to use as the reason in which he blames you. He sounds very disrespectful and immature. You are better off without this second child manbaby.

You cannot know the reasons and don’t trouble yourself with why. Just move on with your life as best you can. He will reap what he sows.

Thepossibility · 19/09/2026 23:50

I hope you find it within yourself to leave this awful man.

Ionlymakejokestodistractmyself · 20/09/2026 00:10

Is he freaking out at turning 50?!

TheArtfulNavyDreamer · 20/09/2026 00:50

What’s he spent/ bought you for birthdays and Christmas etc to give us a comparison?

whatwouldlilacerullodo · 20/09/2026 01:12

Because you took off his power to rubbish or ignore your gift. You ruined his power play.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/09/2026 01:20

So you spent £100 on him but that’s not enough for him 🙄

ThatHangryRubyReader · 20/09/2026 01:21

Thats honestly insane. Grown man crying about it and also $100 and dinner is not nothing

AnnoyedAsAllHeck · 20/09/2026 02:31

@whatthehellyy You know how he behaved was massively rude and unnecessary. The big questions are, "Have you had enough of his immature actions and behaviors? Are you going to move on so your child learns how to act like a caring, kind and grateful person? Are you happy with a man like that?"

I truly hope your answers are yes, yes, no.

Fiftyandme · 20/09/2026 03:32

This is the start of The Script.

Grumpyoldcat · 20/09/2026 07:00

Come on. You know you are not in the wrong. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Sartre · 20/09/2026 07:05

What sort of spoilt infantile lemon sits crying in their 50s because they didn’t ask for anything for their bday so their partner spent £100 on something they thought would be appreciated?

Meadowfinch · 20/09/2026 07:18

throwaway1234566 · 19/09/2026 18:12

How ridiculous for a grown man. I wonder if he was using this as an excuse to leave?

This. He's a manipulative shit. You have done nothing wrong.

frozendaisy · 20/09/2026 07:32

He’s 50 years old
By now he should’ve learnt some manners and grace.

He wouldn’t be given a second chance from me, let him storm off to his empty house , he can look after himself, he really doesn’t deserve a loving family to come home to.

He is trying to break you down, make you tiptoe around his possible anger so you will do everything he wants without question in future for fear of his reaction.

When he comes sniffing back under the pretence of “are you going to show me that you do love me” banner I would give some consideration into saying “After that reaction I have had time to think and going forward separate houses and a co-parenting relationship will be better for all of us, I have no idea why you were so angry and I am not about to start to try and guess how you might react at any given moment so let’s keep things as they are”

If you let him back @whatthehellyy you have years of misery before you can get him to leave again.

CanterThroughChaos · 20/09/2026 07:41

You gave him a very generous gift. He is pathetic and manipulative. It’s a shame you have a child with him, you could do without that tether. Ideally you should sack this off completely.

Smallpoxy · 20/09/2026 07:43

Too hard work. He would be an x. Goodbuy.

emptygoosenest · 20/09/2026 07:45

I would wonder if he isn't enjoying the arrival of your dc and is looking for a way out.

JustGoogleIt15 · 20/09/2026 07:51

He was looking for an excuse to leave. Played his part. Left.

blondeboobshell · 20/09/2026 08:33

So when you buy presents he doesn’t use them or seemingly want them. When you ask he refuses to say and when you give him a voucher he swears at you!!?!!
Yeah I couldn’t be putting up with that. He sounds nasty and selfish.
I would say don’t have him back but it’s easier said than done. If you do accept him back I’d want an agreement for birthdays/xmas going forward.
Dh and I spend (approx ) £100 at each and give each other’s few ideas in the month or so before.

Pinkissmart · 20/09/2026 09:04

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 19/09/2026 18:16

Underlying reason...

Manipulation would be the reason

TheRoyalInkPot · 20/09/2026 09:31

He's obviusly got masssive issues around this and he's blaming you.

He's projecting past hurt onto you .

Not excusing this at all but if he ever wants to come back or apologise etc you must make him confront this and find out why it's so sensitive .
