Look how hard the BBC are trying to disuade him. Did you write it down? Keep a diary? You were grieving, could have misheard etc

They are such gaslighters.

And making out people would believe Charles simply because he is the King 🤣
Because Kings have such a history of impeccable and respectable behaviour 🙄

I loathe Charles and I believe he said this. 100% and probably a lot worse besides.

TealHacks · 19/09/2026 10:14

I too believe it.

Not sure why pp's are insisting this should be on the royals board. It is very biased and pro monarchy there.

Scrolling on by works well for me.

I'm getting sick of wading through threads about what a grumpy middle-aged man said about his ex wife 30 years ago. He's a king, not a PM. We can't vote him out.

Maybe we can’t vote him out in elections, but we can make our views known and maybe remove him and the whole family by other means? The concept of a ‘royal’ family is outdated.

ElefantAndCastle · 19/09/2026 10:17

Don't trust a man in need of money...

Helenbelena · 19/09/2026 10:17

I believe that Charles was relieved when Diana was out of the picture. I believe Earl Spencer.

DogAndFog · 19/09/2026 10:18

I think it’s very likely Charles said it.

Querying, challenging and pushing back is not gaslighting.

The BBC has justifiably been criticised for being sycophantic towards celebrities, aristocratic families and royalty in the past.

if someone can credibly respond to challenges, that enhances their credibility

It goes beyond challenging. They are trying to plant the seed of doubt in peoples minds by infering that grief can warp memories
Which it can BUT I'm sure if the future king of England phoned you and said something so horrible to you about your dead sister that would be pretty ingrained in your memory.

And if not biased then where is her challenge of Charles memory?

MyThreeWords · 19/09/2026 10:27

YABU to give a fuck. This is the most trivial soapy garbage. I can't believe how many people are allowing their brains to turn into rot with all the royal family trivia that has vomited out of the media over the last few years.
It's no longer even about the royal family as such. It is just mindless chewing over cheap online content. Could equally be Madeline McCann or Nicola Bulley or Jay Slater, or any other flavour of content fodder chewing gum.
In all these events, though, it is an actual family's actual tragedy to we should butt out.

A woman died 30 years ago and family tensions meant that some relatives were judgey about other relatives reactions. Great, ok, now what about the world's actual problems.

Exactly.

Really awful comments tend to stay with you.

The Royals seem to be very fond of saying others remember things wrongly or differently. You do start to think it’s very possible it’s not everyone else that’s the problem, especially when we have witnessed some very bad behaviour from the Royals over the years. I think Charles is more than capable of saying these things.

He said he’d protect the Princes. This is the opposite.

I think this is exactly what she would want tbh.

Earl spencer is as loose with the truth as his sister was and his nephew is!

What are the chances that you’re all over the H&M threads?

I suppose he has to throw in a few spicy bits, after all we all know he was Diana’s brother and there’s not much more of a story in that anymore.

I’m surprised the Palace issued the statement at all, let alone at the speed they did when it would’ve been clear as day that would be the enduring sound bite and endlessly picked over.

Maybe it was said in the heat of grief and pressure, which would have been off the scale at the time. But it was also clear at the time that any hope of Diana being forgotten was never going to be the case.

I can also well imagine CS as a goady little fuck who could quite easily provoke an angry outburst. I can remember his funeral speech very clearly and it was laced with spite, not just the words but the delivery.

I think it’s worth reminding people of this quote, made about his wife and mother of his children at the time of their divorce:

"Well, those who know Victoria know she's thick – and she's also thin."

Dollymylove · 19/09/2026 10:50

I wonder why hes taken nearly 30 years to write this book.
I suppose these big aristocratic estates are expensive to maintain.
Oh and of course 3 divorces wouldnt have come cheap......

MotherofPufflings · 19/09/2026 10:50

I believe he believes it. I don't believe it actually happened.

Madamecholetsbonnet · 19/09/2026 10:50

I totally believe him

WonderingWanda · 19/09/2026 10:54

People say all sorts of things in the heat of the moment, in emotionally charged situations and given the breakdown of his marriage I can only imagine how cross both men might have been at one another. Regardless of who treated who badly, it is appalling of Charles Spencer to be airing dirty laundry in this way.

I’m not so sure. Yes she wouldn’t be forgotten completely but ask anyone under 30/25? about her and I doubt they know much or are interested. I doubt they’re interested in the RF at all tbh. Time moves on.

Still I doubt the King said exactly what Spencer is alleging. Equally tempers and emotions were likely running high.

At least his next divorce will be funded though.

backformoreofthesame · 19/09/2026 11:01

There is a royal family topic please. This isn’t news it’s cheap gossip from people whose celebrity status comes from birth not their capabilities

Funandnames · 19/09/2026 11:01

emuloc · 19/09/2026 09:44

Even if it is true that KC said that, Charles Spencer should have done the decent thing, and kept his counsel. It is really not on, what he has done here. Has he forgotten he has nephews?

It’s very curious for him to make such a huge statement like this. The implication is he does not support the Monarchy - and thereby he does not want his nephew to be king (or at least is deliberately hurting the popularity of what his nephew will inherit). It’s hard to believe his sister would want her son to be hurt this way?

The Diana-William link is where Charles Spencer really loses me. Diana would have supported William (and Harry) in her own way no matter what. She probably would have helped them sort out their issues.

Diana would put William’s wellbeing above her brother’s ‘truth’ without question. Charles Spencer is harming his sister’s child and it’s not ok.

BlueMum16 · 19/09/2026 11:03

sesquipedalian · 19/09/2026 09:35

IF this is true, why has it only come out now? If the Earl of Spencer had said something at the time, the papers would have been all over it, and it would have been very damaging to the royal family, who were at a low ebb at the time. I’m sorry, but I think this is a convenient and sensationalist remembering to sell a few books. Let’s not forget, this is a man who wasn’t even invited to his own daughters’ weddings.

He has apparently said as it's approaching the 30 year anniversary he didn't want to read hearsay and bystander accounts and felt it appropriate to tell his side.

I believe him.

Wolfpa · 19/09/2026 11:06

I think you have to ask yourself about who this benefits and the only answer I can think of is himself.

never trust someone who is after money.

you will also find some undesirable traits looking into Charles Spencer’s history. That family sold Diana like a prize cow. They knew exactly what the relationship would look like but wanted the prestige of being close to the Royal Family.
