To think that Harry and his kids should have security

Frankly I don’t want another year of wondering if Harry will attend another event or stay in a palace or will or will not get security etc.

For the sake of our sanity the matter needs to be resolved.

Harry could become a working royal and Meghan could go back to being an actress - they are then both happy

Harry and the kids get protection and Meghan can pay for her own

If Harry and the PoW could make up it would make next year much better ( 30 year anniversary)

Meghan needs to stop trading ( in my opinion) on the memory of Diana ( if it is true she wanted to do a speech re Diana etc) Leave Diana to the boys only.

There are innocent children involved and they do need protecting.

Harry needs to change his attitude and stop fighting the system for the sake of the nations sanity. Meghan has to realise that she upset many of us re the courtesy thing etc and the attack on the POW and POW.

The POW needs to realise that Harry can’t steal his thunder.

Everyone needs to think of King Charles who frankly needs to have a break from all this.

I am not a Meghan supporter or a bot. I just can’t bear another 3 months of frenzied speculation. My head is done in.

If we're giving Liz Truss lifelong protection, then I think we can extend the same to the King's son, daughter in law and grandchildren, regardless of their career choice.

It's not comparable.

Anyone who's been PM is going to know state secrets, some of them dirty. We don't want them in a position where they're being threatened with a finger cut off every hour if they don't spill. That's bad for all of us.

I'm not against Charles style security for any family member who's expertly assessed as needing it either, rather than on vague principle, but it won't be for the same reason that Liz Truss actually does require it.

AlexandraCarrington · 15/09/2026 20:39

whether or not he's a working royal, he's at risk.

At risk how? From whom? Why is he at greater risk than Anne and Edward were when they were the children of the monarch, and are now they are the siblings of the monarch?

Holeymoley28 · 15/09/2026 20:40

Do we know that Liz Truss has 24/7 armed security either mind or again is it on a needs basis she might just have normal security much like Harry.

He cannot keep a low profile. He’s Prince Harry. Nor can his children.

Of course he can keep a low profile. Every other member of the RF manages it when not carrying out official engagements. Just stay off social media and stop leaking/encouraging friends to leak information to the press.

Yes, why don’t Harry and Meghan stay off Instagram? Why are they repeatedly putting their children who cannot consent to it on the Meta messaging app Instagram?

NotAnotherScarf · 15/09/2026 20:56

I am a massive royalist, love my king and country
But no. They have a job if they want it. To work.for their country. They declined. The country owes them nothing.

The country doesn't pay for david Beckham and his family's security. Nor should we. They chose to be private citizens

Yes good point.

Of course they need security. I’m stunned anyone could think the opposite.

Could they maybe set up a gofundme?

I don't mind if they have security but I'd rather it wasn't publicly funded.

AplineDaisies · 15/09/2026 20:59

Of course H and M and their children need security. You cannot compare them Zara Philips or other Royals. The amount of hatred on Mumset towards them is monumental. I can't imagine what some more extreme nutters out there would to them given half the chance.

PantaloonMad · 15/09/2026 21:00

But if you are going to state so strongly that they need armed security, you must have thought about it at least a little bit?

If you think they need armed goons - implying you think there's a very real threat to their safety - the need would be 24/7, wouldn't it? Even if the baddies take tea breaks and have the weekends off, they're hardly likely to share their plans ( wittingly, at least) with RAVEC.

No, I haven’t thought about it much at all. Probably they should get the same arrangement as George, Charlotte and Louis, whatever that is – and I believe it should not be disclosed for obvious security reasons.

Crudd99 · 15/09/2026 19:53

These didn't have security. HAM already have security.

Almost all those people would have had either police or private security at points during the course of their public engagements, performances or events.

Harry and Meghan can pay for private security like other celebrities, including many far more famous and recognisable than they are. They will get tax payer funded armed security if and when it's deemed necessary by people who actually know about these things, not because Harry is a paranoid mess and M is an attention obsessed narcissist.

If they want armed security 24/7, they should return to the US where anyone can wander around with a gun. Luckily laws are far, far stricter about it in the UK.

You really think the what 6th and 7th in line have an equal threat level to the 2nd, 3rd and 4th in line?

Unless something bloody terrible happened they are basically irrelevant.

I didn’t say they should get it because Harry and Megan want them to. I think they should get it regardless, and the OP asked if we think they should – simple as that. Harry and Megan could say they don’t think they need it tomorrow and I would still think they do.

Maybe lay off Megan’s Insta page for a while if it’s getting you a bit too riled up.

TheWytch · 15/09/2026 21:19

If he wants protection then he needs to pay for it.

There are too many people struggling at the moment to pay for the bare necessities of life so the last thing we should be doing is spending taxpayers money on this pair and their family.

They have more money than most of us can ever dream of yet they want us to pay towards their luxury lifestyle.

afishcalledpanda · 15/09/2026 20:33

Agreed OP, son of the king FFS, not something he chose, whether or not he's a working royal, he's at risk.

And Andrew, Anne and Edward were the children of a queen and were only getting it when working.
Why is Harry set apart, because of his behaviour?

They won’t want security just for the children. That’s not the point of all this. Harry wants full RAVEC status.

Harry does not want his security to be paid for by the public purse. He wants to be allowed to pay for armed security.

Who is more recognisable and famous than a man whose wedding was viewed by nearly two billion people, whose father is head of 15 states and whose mother was the most photographed in the world, and who had a prominent role at her funeral
watched by 2.5 billion people?

I don't look at Meghan's Instagram, I avoid them in the media as far as possible. It's currently difficult to avoid because in the space of a few weeks they've managed to cram in enough drama for several lifetimes

And riled up? I'm trying to point out that in the UK people get armed security because they need it, not because they want it. Which you say you don't think should happen, at the same time as thinking it should happen in the case of H and M.

This raises another question. When should Charlotte and Louis’s protection cease? At 18? When George has children? Should they only have it now if they’re with their parents or brother, but not for their own trips to school? It’s all so vague.

Yep, I do. Not because I think succession to the throne is important, but because they are child who haven’t had the choice to be placed in the contentious life they have been placed in. And yes, I do think public opinion and media-whipped up frenzy is worse for Harry and Megan, and vis-à-vis their children.

And - again - the thread is about whether we think they should get it. It’s no more simple or complicated than that. Maybe you shouldn’t give it so much head space.
