To think that Harry and his kids should have security

Frankly I don’t want another year of wondering if Harry will attend another event or stay in a palace or will or will not get security etc.

For the sake of our sanity the matter needs to be resolved.

Harry could become a working royal and Meghan could go back to being an actress - they are then both happy

Harry and the kids get protection and Meghan can pay for her own

If Harry and the PoW could make up it would make next year much better ( 30 year anniversary)

Meghan needs to stop trading ( in my opinion) on the memory of Diana ( if it is true she wanted to do a speech re Diana etc) Leave Diana to the boys only.

There are innocent children involved and they do need protecting.

Harry needs to change his attitude and stop fighting the system for the sake of the nations sanity. Meghan has to realise that she upset many of us re the courtesy thing etc and the attack on the POW and POW.

The POW needs to realise that Harry can’t steal his thunder.

Everyone needs to think of King Charles who frankly needs to have a break from all this.

I am not a Meghan supporter or a bot. I just can’t bear another 3 months of frenzied speculation. My head is done in.

I don't have an issue with them having security. I do, however, have an issue with it being funded by the taxpayer. You can't leave a job but expect to keep the company car

Leave them alone they are just enjoying their privacy and being intentional.

😂😂😂

You must do a lot of muting and barely hear any news

I think the advice that you can’t control the behaviour of others and you should focus only on your own actions and responses, completely applies here.

People seem to feel enraged by Meghan and Harry. It’s not just on MN, one of my closest and wonderful friends said openly she hates them. It’s such a waste of energy and I honestly think that some people have their own issues, want an excuse to hate or be angry and go looking for reasons to do so.

For your own sanity, switch channel or scroll past! Yes I do this a lot - I couldn’t bear it when Boris became PM or Trump became president and I stopped watching the news so I didn’t have to listen to them and feel angry, but I still kept up with world events online - my life is calmer and no less informed.

Did you feel the same with regard to Andrew? He was the monarchs son but didn’t get automatic state security

Personally, while I think Andrew is a vile piece of shit that should be absolutely be prosecuted and preferably sent to jail for his sordid involvement in the Epstein mess and who-knows-what-else, I do still think he should be entitled to state protection.

As I said above, it has nothing to do with worthiness imo. It should be simply about risk.

Zimunya · 15/09/2026 13:23

As long as we are paying for Andrew's security I'm more than happy to pay for H&Ms. I'm not particular fans of H&M, but I do see that he and his family are targets for kidnap, attack, etc purely by dint of being born into / connected to the RF. Not his fault, and I don't think he should have to pay for that. The security team he currently has seem clueless - only tested the school run during the summer holidays when there was no traffic, and were then taken completely by surprise when the taffic situation changed at the start of term. Complete duffers. I wouldn't trust them with any security decisions whatsoever - they are hopeless.

Or maybe people could get a more intetsting hobby and stop obsesing about them ?

Couldn't agree more. I have no idea why they're in the news as much as they are, or why people are so invested in it all.

No they weren’t. They were her great grandchildren and were always 20+ in the line of succession. Harry and his children are fifth, sixth and seventh.

There aren’t threads speculating on where Peter and Zara’s kids go to school. A poster on here was saying she hopes someone ‘gives Harry and Meghan a piece of their mind’ if they’re spotted in public. It’s not normal behaviour and that’s just on Mumsnet. It’s totally different from Peter and Zara’s situation.

No, I was talking about Peter and Zara, who were the Queen's grandchildren. Also, Edward's children were the monarch's grandchildren. Whatever they got security-wise would be comparable.

Thinkofnewthings · 15/09/2026 13:34

No. He doesn’t need taxpayer-funded security. And he can’t become a working royal ever again. That option is closed to him for ever.

Marycontrarygarden · 15/09/2026 12:25

Oh to have this much time on my hands 🙄🙄🙄🙄

This. Blimey op. I don’t care. I give all the royals as little headspace as possible. HAM can do WTF they like, as long as my taxes don’t pay for it! Or let KC pay if he’s bothered.

I don’t feel the same, maybe I would have done when he was younger and his daughters were smaller. I also think with Harry there is his Afghanistan admissions, whilst Andrew was in the Falklands I don’t think the threat is the same (although you could argue there was no need to boast about it in his stupid book)!

Crudd99 · 15/09/2026 12:54

What about protection for our children? Money should go to protect all children. Our children are more likely to be murdered by terrorists than h&m children. Statistics prove that. Why should we pay for them.

REALLY? No. My child is not more at risk from a terrorist than a grandchild of the King.

Where is your evidence?

angelos02 · 15/09/2026 13:54

I couldn't care less. I couldn't believe it was the top news item on breakfast TV. The royal family is worth billions. They can pay for it. Don't go cap in hand to tax payers.

Betterbeingdead · 15/09/2026 14:03

Yes of course they should get protection .As long as they pay for it themselves that's fine . I would like to opt out of paying it though

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 15/09/2026 14:04

You are unreasonable for posting this in AIBU.

fridaynightzzz · 15/09/2026 14:10

He has security. He gets better security if it’s assessed necessary.

What he wants is 24/365 top security for all 4 of them which follows them worldwide and is paid us. It means he can continue his faux royal tours/flying around the world without any cost to him. He’ll want a jet on call next.

Statistics. How many royal children have been killed and how many British public children have been killed?

Yup safest place to be would be near the royals as a threat to them is always looked for.

Unlike us plebs 😅

stop talking about yh or reading about them. It’s what i do, and i couldn’t tell you anything about any of the pointless lot of them. ignorance is bliss.

glovebox · 15/09/2026 14:17

The only grounds I can see for protecting them is that they’re too stupid to make sensible decisions around their security arrangements. They need protecting from themselves more than anything.

caringcarer · 15/09/2026 14:22

No they should not get protection. They are not working royals. They are private citizens and they don't get tax payer funded protection. If they were truly worried as bout their DC safety they'd stop posting them all over the internet as it anyone cares abot them and their family. In the US they paid for security. In the uUK if they feel they need it they can do the same. The UK is in billions of debt as Nd it doesn't have money to splash of nonsense. When the late Queen Elizabeth was alive Princess Ann, Prince Edward and their families only got security if they were representing the Queen. The same should apply to Harry. Security has been smashed from all but King Charles and Queen Camilla, the Prince and Princess of Wales as King and Queen in waiting and their children. Princess Anne who is a working royal and has been kidnapped in the past only gets security when representing the King. She catches trains and buses when not representing the King without security. Zara Phillips and Lady Louise dont have security as they are not working royals and Lady Louise worked in a garden centre serving the public. No one else makes a fuss except H&M. If they don't like it they can go back to the US.

Tryingtokeepgoing · 15/09/2026 14:24

To paraphrase Oscar Wilde, for as long as they continue to believe that there is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about, then they will continue to deliberately do things that increase the risk to which they are exposing their children. As a non UK resident non UK taxpayer I have no skin in the game, but IMO it'd be reasonable for them to take sensible precautions to stay out of the public eye and reduce the risk (perhaps by not employing a photograper and social media manager that constantly lets everyone know where they are and what they are doing), and having done that for the security services to assess the actual risk at that point, and provide the appropriate level of security. It seem madness to do things that increase risk and then demand 24 hour armed security because of the risk that they, in part, have created.

Whyhaveibeencutoutofmamsnot · 15/09/2026 15:31

She is an American "actress" of course she likes publicity.
If he gets protection as an ex squaddie then so should all of our ex service men and women as they may have done unpopular things in Afghanistan.
The children are less at risk than young men living on council estates particular certain groups.
HAM chose to turn their backs on this country and the royal family and say some nasty things.
Then complain about the school run.

bananaobama · 15/09/2026 15:35

No. I want them to effoff back to California where they flounced off to and can live a life free from fear

bananaobama · 15/09/2026 15:39

They had that enormous public wedding then decided to cut ties with the UK after the event.

we haven’t forgotten you cheeky grifting freeloaders

Didimum · 15/09/2026 15:41

BunfightBetty · 15/09/2026 12:46

Surely they don't need anything more than Peter or Zara's kids get?

They chose to stop being working Royals, and despite saying they want privacy, have courted attention assiduously, since they left. That's a choice. They can pay for their own security, surely?

You can’t pay for armed security in the UK. I didn’t say Harry and Megan didn’t have a choice – I said their kids don’t have a choice.

Since Archie and Lilibet are 6th and 7th in line in succession (as opposed to Savannah and Isla Phillips, 21st and 22nd), and their parents have a much higher degree of public interest, scrutiny and contention, I would argue that this makes them more in need of security.
