AIBU to think of course all the anti-trans posts on this website and others are leading to real life harm?

Just seen a video of a trans woman minding her business in a train station getting horribly bullied by some Tommy Robinson wanna-be and couldn't help but think back to all the aggressive threads I've seen on Mumsnet.

Pages and pages of vilifying innocent trans people, calling them perverts and all sorts with zero evidence of anything of the sort of course would lead to people like this harassing and attacking trans people in public. I've see a few of so-called GC brigade say 'this isn't what we wanted' but it is the end, isn't it? If you do see trans people as disgusting abusive perverts trying to sneak into your changing rooms and hurt your daughter, you'd want them to be bashed in public yeah?

Am I wrong to think their chickens are coming home to roost and certain posters will want to claim they never had a hand in it all?

In my ideal world are they seen and heard? They're seen and heard now (in all senses of the phrase, usually seen first then heard). But being seen and heard doesnt always result in what you want, as women have experienced over the years.

I would like a world where no one has any MH struggles and are happy and content with who they really are, of course. Wouldnt you like that?

Correct me if my assumption is wrong, but you see all trans people as having a mental illness?

That was a lot of words to say I wish there were no trans people.

I think mumsnet has played a part in changing the direction of the discourse around trans people/issues and that change in discourse has led to legislation as well as more openly hateful behaviour from the general public towards trans people, yes.
It's an academic debate that has got WAY out of hand IMO. I really feel for trans people, and trans women in particular at the moment.

Do you have any sympathy for women having had our rights to single-sex spaces, sports and institutions removed without consent from us, and in contravention of the law?

As for hateful, all we want is our rights. If you want to see hateful, look at the transactivists throwing bottles of piss, defacing MPs' offices and threatening women with rape. They never wanted academic debate on this because they have no arguments that stand up to a nanosecond's scrutiny.

@helpfulucy
Sorry that last comment just doesnt make sense. The man who did the filming is the one you have the issue with. Why he did it and what he said and his views are not the responsibility of sex realists or anyone but himself.
A lot of sex realists on twitter have attacked this man doing the filming. Most sex realists I follow are my age 60, or even older and have a very live and let live attitude to men wearing dresses and what not, we were teenagers in the 80s. Even in my school in rural Cambridgeshire I had several male classmates who wore makeup and one who wore women's clothes on occasion.
I have not seen any support for the film man at all amongst the small circle of people you seem to be blaming. I found it nasty myself.

This is exactly my point. ‘I know I said they were all disgusting, aggressive perverts but never imaged someone who thought the same would hurt a trans woman!’

how disingenuous. The same as all those people who ‘just want to keep Britain British’ now shocked at the marches of racist masked thugs.

The man who made that video is an utter piece of trash. But blaming a man's terrible behaviour on women is not on.

I'm sick to death of these poor ickle transwomen who have literally trashed the rights of women and girls and put them through the most horrendous experiences just to satify their wants.

Could not give one single shit.

He could just put some trousers on and nobody would look at him twice.

How was he hurt exactly?

Womanontop · 14/09/2026 16:25

Like most people, I do not care if a man wishes to dress in clothes traditionally meant for women and absolutely think he should be able to do this in peace.

Does that mean I think he should be able to access women's toilets, changing rooms, sports, refuges, wards, prisons and "breastfeed" an infant if he says he is a woman? No of course not.

Why can't women raise concerns about the above, and their very real fear of coming across men presenting as women in these places, without being blamed for othet
men acting as the ones you point out?

Do you think trans people are mentally well? Is the brain working normally when it gets people thinking they’re in the wrong body?

I say all trans people have a mental illness. I don’t think this is controversial. In the same way that all people in a wheelchair with a broken back have a physical disability. I don’t want to get rid of either, but neither party has a fully healthy, properly functioning body.

Who cares if someone's trans, ive got enough to deal with with cis men 🙄🙄

KiwiFall · 14/09/2026 16:26

I haven’t seen the video you are referring to. No one should be abused. Full stop. There is a group of people (usually men) who will abuse anyone. If not trans people then disabled, black, women, old whoever, they are just looking for a target.

As others say I don’t care how people live. If they are not hurting anyone, fine. I don’t agree to trans accessing women only spaces or sports. Nor do I agree with their insistence on me accepting them as a woman if they still have their penis.

Am I to assume you think a person who firmly believes in a female penis is in tip top mental health?

Ah, is this the old “women are responsible for the bad things men do” in action?

Shut up wims, don’t talk about how loss of your words, spaces and services affect you. Because it might cause a man to act out like a disregulated toddler and it will be all your fault!

BunkBedsArePeopleShelves · 14/09/2026 16:27

So you saw a video filmed by a man of a man being nasty to another man.... and you decided it's the fault of the woman on Mumsnet?

blacksax · 14/09/2026 16:28

The fear of being attacked by men is one of the reasons transwomen don't feel safe using the Gents.

VickyEadie · 14/09/2026 16:28

helpfulucy · 14/09/2026 15:51

Who said the posters I am referring to are women? Mumsnet is in fact not a single sex space

You seem to be suggesting that an unpleasant man who was filmed being unpleasant to a trans-identifying man had been influenced by his regular reading of Mumsnet.

That's absolute bollocks - isn't it?

Moreover, your statement that trans people 'aren't hurting' women and girls isn't quite true either, is it? The pesistent, massive lobbying by trans activists has led to a wide range of policy changes and actions that have significantly affected women and girls. For example

  • trans-identifying men being admitted to female wards in hospitals, leading to actual assaults on women
  • trans-identifying men being admitted to women's prisons, leading to actual assaults on women
  • Leisure centres allowing trans-identifying men into female changing rooms, leading to some women having to absent themselves for fear of encountering males there
  • The removal of the female-only status of the Hampstead women's pond, leading to some women being unable to use it thereafter.

I could add more. Yes, trans people HAVE hurt women and girls.

And that should be dealt with. It’s absolutely nothing to do with women though.

PinkLemons99 · 14/09/2026 16:29

Funnily enough, it’s not the GC feminists who argue for violent reprisals against Trans people but it is commonly the outspoken biological male TRA’s who advocate violence.

Wonder why that is?? 🤔

HollyHop2000 · 14/09/2026 16:29

Man attacks man. I'd say this is a man problem, not a Mumsnet problem. Are you posting similar posts on men's forums?

Vaxtable · 14/09/2026 16:29

Mumsnet has millions of posters. Whilst the minority may possibly be rabid anti tens I would suggest the majority re not.

many maybe gender critical but even then I suggest a lot of them will think that as long as trans people abide by legislation they won’t have an issue

Should we let gay men or old men or small men with glasses into the female toilets too, just in case some Neanderthal arsehole decides to pick on them?

The academic debate got WAY out of hand when Stonewall et al lobbied for men to self ID as women and encroach on female only spaces. MN can be proud that it allowed debate in the other direction - which is not academic but practical. The vast majority of women do not like taking their clothes off, changing their san pro or washing bloody hands in the presence of anyone and if they have to do so then they ONLY want to do so in the presence of actual other biological women. A muslim woman should be able to fix her hijab in the ladies without fear of a man coming in, an orthodox Jewish woman should be able to swim at Hampstead Ladies Pond without fear of a man joining her and a nurse in Fife or Darlington should be able to change into scrubs for work without a man staring at her....

HermioneWeasley · 14/09/2026 16:31

In terms of caring how people dress, you have a point with me. If I see an adult male dressed in a way that would be considered provocative for women (short lacy dress, fishnets), is unusual (short lacy dress and fishnets to work in the city), is a sexualised version of a little girl or is outright fetish gear then I am going to assume he is a cross dresser imposing his fetish on the public without their consent. And I will judge him for it. I would not confront him about it because I’m an average sized woman and therefore vulnerable to pretty much any man.

if he’s dressed in a way that’s congruent for women his age, I’m unlucky to judge or have an adverse reaction if he’s not using women’s spaces.
