Im not an ambulance / compo chaser, but I have worked with so many over the years who have been hurt in the workplace - daft accidents - but have been left struggling later on

I'm not so sure about that. I don't think it's reasonable to expect people to go through a scenario where, when they get dressed in the morning, they think in terms of, well, I had better put on really secure shoes in case someone pushes me down.

It sounds as though the OP would have been injured even if her shoes had stayed on.

It doesn’t matter. If you are injured at work on their premises then you can legally claim compensation. As long as a doctor has seen the injury and logged it on their records. Just like a burglar can claim against a home owners insurance if they are hurt on their property. Mad but true!

It’s reasonable to wear comfortable well fitting shoes in the work place, that’s incredibly basic.

And you can’t judge she’d have hurt herself if she’d just stumbled backwards and not fallen out of the shoe, she fell out of the shoe awkwardly. Regardless it did fall off so it doesn’t matter

I have been in a similar situation at work before in the ladies toilets. There’s a particular colleague who refuses to touch the door handles so she kicks the door to the main toilet open and then again goes and kicks the cubicle doors too before using toilet paper to close the latch. The main toilet door is a fire door in our workplace so it’s heavy and she has to kick it with a lot of force to open it. It’s solid so you can’t see through it, I was coming out of the main toilet as she was coming in and she smacked me in the face with the door! I didn’t see her and wasn’t expecting her to be kicking a door into my face at the time. So these people really do exist unfortunately!

Op said she flung the door open, so presumably she didn’t just open the door normally. If she’s knocked OP off her feet she’s come rushing through like a idiot and the door has opened with some force into the OP?

How did you manage to get X rays and see a doctor so quickly? Did you attend A and E? If so there will be records of it.

Don’t waste your time to trying to explain it. I despair at how utterly dense some people are that they can’t possibly fathom how this incident has occurred! You’d be better off explaining it to the snail on my garden path.

Your username is quite fitting for the explanation of your question. I would imagine OP was wearing heels and when this troll came barging through the door and knocked into the OP, she stumbled, twisted her ankle and her shoe came off.

Seen it many times whilst out on a Saturday night when people have had too much to drink. It’s really not difficult to imagine 🙄.

She sounds very rude and childish OP 'I was hungry' is a dick comment to make! If she didn't apologise at the time, then I can understand why you were annoyed, but as it's been some time since she did it, I doubt you'll get any concern or worry from her now.

Doesn’t absolve her from apologising or checking that the person she hurt is OK. Certainly doesn’t entitle her to make a joke out of somebody else’s injury.

OP wasn’t out in the town drunk on a Saturday though in silly heals was she. She was sober at work, even in heels they shouldn’t be that easy to come off

How do you know it's "hyperbole"? We have no reason to believe it did not happen exactly like that.

It was the coworker's heedless action that set in motion the circumstances that caused the OP's injury, not the OP's choice of footwear.

And for those posters who are saying it was just an accident as though that relieves the coworker of any responsibility, do you think the coworker's action was unreasonable? Or negligent? A person does not have to intentionally cause harm in order to be responsible for it.

"Unsuitable" for what? For being barged into with force? That is ridiculous. Should we all wear steel toe-capped boots to the office in case some idiot runs into a room, flinging the door open, totally reckless as to whether anyone might be in the vicinity on the other side of the door?

Steel toe capped wouldn’t have made a difference here. Just shoes that fit properly

How do you know they didn't fit "properly"? they could have been court shoes, heeled mules, whatever. Suitable for an office. As well you know. Talk about blaming the victim.
