Aibu feeling uneasy about men taking little girls to the toilet in the womens toilet?

I've seen this a few times and I dont know what is the right thing to do.
So the other week we were at the cinema. I took my daughter to the toilet and as I was waiting for her a man came out of a cubicle with a little girl and went to wash her hands.
It got me thinking.
I feel uncomfortable a man in the womens toilet. I understand how you'd potentially feel uncomfortable taking a daughter into the mens toilets.
And the only other option in this situation was the disabled toilet but morally thats wrong.

I dont know what I feel is right in this situation so wanted to know other people's opinions.
So yabu: its right for a man to take girl into female toilets
Yanbu: he should take her somewhere else...but where?

Yet more sweeping generalisations.

Men are not predators. Some are but it's completely disingeous to make such a sweeping statement.

Woman are entitled to privacy - the cublic door provides it.

A man bring his young daughter to the toilet is not creepy.

Your view of the world is distorted.

It’s selfish and entitled is what it is . My father managed perfectly with me and my sister bringing us to men’s when we were kids . What the hell do you think goes on in men’s toilets that is so traumatic ? Even if they catch a glimpse of a mans body that is not traumatic

TheyWereFriendlyCreatures · Yesterday 12:21

This would be solved by getting rid or urinals. Men don't need them, they don't have them at home.

TinyTempest · Yesterday 12:22

stillhiding1990 · Yesterday 12:09

And makes his daughter aware that if a woman asks a man for privacy the man can deny that request, great life lesson eh

Unless the woman is pissing in the sink, she doesn't need any more privacy than the lockable cubicle door.

But do keep clutching at straws, it's getting quite amusing.

No man should enter a woman's toilet.
Good men stay out so bad men stand out.
By making an exemption for Dad of the Year and his darling princess, by accepting that she might be intimidated by men, we are overriding the feelings of other women and girls who will be intimidated by him.

I love this... and may steal it (sorry)

"Good men stay out, so bad men stand out"

That is it exactly for me. Can't send our girls to the women's toilet any more. We wouldn't send them into the men's toilet, because of men... now we can't send them into the women's, because of men. Their independent world gets smaller, they stay "infantilised" for longer.

Make men's toilets more like women's. Make men's toilets safe for all. Stop providing "solutions" for men that use women's spaces.

Youhadrambledonfor18pages · Yesterday 12:22

He should take her to the men’s - she’s with him so she’s safe.

Creepy as hell a woman thinking little girls should be in a male toilet - disgusting

there fixed that for you

Men pulling out their penises and having a wee in either individual urinals or the more common trough urinals.

What kind of hedonistic behaviour are you thinking a dad with his little girl is going to attempt in the women’s toilet?

…and the problem with that is? Nobody is waving them around, you see the back of them and then (horrors) might hear someone urinating. It’s hardly the end of days.

Crispsjamtarts · Yesterday 12:23

Well I'm a woman and would prefer, for my DD's sake, that he parents in the appropriate toilet

"Parenting in the most appropriate toilet"? Lol.
By that logic, that would be mean a little girl is safest in the women's toilet instead of going into the gents, with multiple men pissing at the urinals for instance.

FourSevenFive · Yesterday 12:23

Timeforachange26 · Yesterday 12:18

Ok so if there aren't any disabled toilets or they are locked what should he do?

Men's. She will be with her father.
Young children can go with their parent to use facilities based on the parent's sex.

Time for the what about women washing moon cups in the sink comments.

ElenOfTheWays · Yesterday 12:25

Will the people saying "use the disabled toilet" please stop. That is completely unacceptable

Are you disabled? Because I am and I still think a man with a female child should use them rather than impose himself on the ladies loos. Ideally of course, there should be a single user option that isn't disabled access. But there often isn't.

Ilovelurchers · Yesterday 12:25

When I was very little, I am going to guess about five, my dad took my brother and I swimming and used the men's changing rooms, and I saw an adult stranger's penis. It actually did quite disturb and upset me for a while. I am obviously fine now, but it wasn't nice at the time (and we are a family who are fairly comfortable with nudity, so I had glimpsed brother and dad naked before and understood men had different bodies).

Because of the nature of men's toilets, with urinals, I don't think it's OK to take little girls in there and risk them being exposed to full frontal male nudity. It's OK if the gents is cubicle only - that's different.

I also agree that guys shouldn't be in the women's toilets unless there is absolutely no alternative.

Therefore the least worst outcome in this situation is to use the disabled loo (I understand the objections to this, but there is no ideal solution sometimes) . Obviously in many cases this doubles as a family room so that's it's exact purpose! Even when it doesn't, I think using it is the least worst option.

And demand more safe, gender neutral toilets and changing spaces, to acknowledge the fact that dads have daughters, women have sons, people have opposite sex partners who require assistance with toileting, etc etc.

FourSevenFive · Yesterday 12:26

NullaEffugium · Yesterday 12:21

Since she is the one needing the toilet, doesn’t she have the right to use the toilets that align with her sex?

Are you suggesting mothers should take their young sons to the gents? In the end, it is the boy who is using the toilet.

But what is the big deal about men pissing in urinals ? Who bloody cares . A little boy will be exposed to the same sight going in. A few men’s backs facing a urinal . So what ? It’s not that different .

Duckduckgander · Yesterday 12:26

stillhiding1990 · Yesterday 12:11

And that level of entitlement is a problem, it’s not a uni sex space.

So what right's does the young girl have? Does she have the right to use a woman's toilet? Does she have the right to have the help that she requires from her parent? I don't think men taking their daughters to a women's toilet are using the opportunity to enforce their perceived rights. I think most men would rather not encounter a mob of hostile women, but it's the lesser of two evils of taking the kid to a men's toilet. I think this has become such an issue as it's somehow merged with women objecting to men identifying as women using women only spaces. That I can understand but I see the scenario that OP raised as totally different.

Utterlybutter · Yesterday 12:26

No man should be in a women's toilet. Tells you a lot about the entitlement of some men. I've only come across it once and I told him to get out. He tried to argue with me but I could see he wasn't 100% he was right anyway and he got out.

TinyTempest · Yesterday 12:26

MiceSpiders · Yesterday 12:15

He will at least realise he is isn't wanted there and that at least some women will speak up. Men don't need to be everywhere no matter how much they want to be.

The faux naivety on this thread is astonishing

His little girl bursting for a pee takes precedence over some nosy toilet user wanting to make both father and daughter feel bad.

Or at least it will if he's a decent, caring father.

ExtraOnions · Yesterday 12:23

You’re not answering my question at all. Why do you think little girls in the men’s toilets is less traumatic than a fully clothed dad with his little girl in the women’s? What end of days are you afraid of?

I think it’s really naive to think all the strange men in the men’s toilets are good guys. Surely the odds are better if an adult sees 1 clothed dad with a child than he isn’t a predator versus a little girl being forced to use the toilet in the men’s toilets with potentially half a dozen men lingering about?

Random321 · Yesterday 12:27

It's grown women putting their wishes above that of young children.

No young girl should have to go into a adult male toliet if she doesn't want to.

It's a wise mum that doesn't let her young pboy go into a male tolet in his own and brings him to the ladies instead.

Shocked that so many grown put their own needs above that of a child.

RoaryLion1 · Yesterday 12:27

When my DH takes DD out he will generally use a disabled loo where possible, but if not then the men’s loo. He’d feel really uncomfortable taking her to the women’s loo. And not sure what anyone thinks is going to happen to her in the men’s loo - it’s not like he’s dangling her over the communal urinal for a wee, there are cubicles.

I’m saying that girls have rights too. She has been hardly considered but she’s the one that needs a safe, private toilet.
