Is the trans kids trend over? Aibu to wonder what happened to the kids caught up in it in the 2010s?

As we know the period from the mid 10s to early 20s has been described as “woke 1” and is apparently “over”.
When I was at secondary school in the 2010s, there were four trans kids in my year group (3 FTMs and one mtf) the one mtf was autistic and in foster care. I was always nice to them and kept my views to myself but I’m wondering what’s going on with them now, they’ve completely dropped off the radar. None of them have social media accounts and no one else I went to school with had heard from them.

My daughter has just entered year 5 and doesn’t know any trans kids or even what one is, my neighbours teenage children don’t know any either and they’re the age I was when four classmates transitioned.

I know there’s a lot of teachers on mumsnet would this be your experience too?

Ive tried googling this but everyone seems to have moved on from it I think there may be a forgotten generation who’s lives have been ruined

Under 18s have never been allowed to medically transition. Please don’t opine on something you know nothing about.

You aren’t replying to me but you do realise the NHS was issuing cross sex hormones to 16 and 17 year olds?

MrsPaperweight · Yesterday 14:46

How do we know a kid is ‘genuinely’ trans? We simply don’t. There’s no test. No definitive criteria. It’s just ‘a feeling’. Sadly, that idea has taken root and instead of accepting gender non conforming kids as they are, we’ve given in to the idea that they can change ‘gender’. They can’t, and to mislead kids in this way is both cruel and damaging.

This is a lie. Prescription of puberty blockers for gender incongruence is illegal in the UK & cross sex hormones for under 18s are forbidden on the NHS but there are private providers either UK based or overseas who will do anything for money supply testosterone or oestrogen etc to under 18s.

You might want to check that before being quite so condescending. NHS England’s own policy allowed cross-sex hormones for 16 and 17-year-olds, and puberty blockers were also prescribed to under-18s. NHS England itself describes cross-sex hormones as being given “as part of a medical transition”.
You can certainly argue about terminology or whether those treatments should have been available, but “under-18s have never been allowed to medically transition” is simply not factually correct.

A lot of left wing papers have written on the Epstein files, though I agree they were awful on the trans issue (Observer and Morning Star better).
Do the Epstein files mention trans?? Didn't know that- do you have a link?

i have a 22 year old DD with arthritis in her knees - she uses a stick sometimes but not always.

She gets much more offers of help when she isn't using the stick than when she does - maybe people are beginning to think it's a fashion choice? Whereas when she's just limping they don't assume she's faking that.

From experience (DD is in her 20s and is on a waiting list for reconstructive surgery on her knee), it's because limping is seen as somebody has hurt themselves and struggling means they're putting the effort in, whereas using a stick is seen as being disabled, not trying hard enough without assistance and the user is therefore lazy.

Unless they're male. Then it's always assumed to be due to an injury.

My DC is a teacher and has never come across it. Not a private school but in a smart commuter village in the NE where the majority of parents are well off and low deprivation. ADHD and autism, on the other hand, seem prevalent. I feel like ADHD is less of a middle class thing.

Hippodrome · Yesterday 15:21

DestituteDesperate · Yesterday 12:32

The only kids I see being mutilated appear from a certain middle class background.

I wasn’t making light of people being affected by those deviants I was talking about the trans kids, very rarely from poor socioeconomic backgrounds.

Aside from the mtf I knew in foster care all of the FTMs I knew came from families that were originally well off before their parents divorced halfway through their childhood causing their parents financial situation to crash and burn.

In my experience people who spent the first half of their childhood well off before divorce or job loss led to the second half not being well off at all seem to have more issues than someone who was just not well off their whole childhood.

Moving to a new neighbourhood and a new school (places that may have been spoken about disparagingly by your parents in the past that you’d overheard) and then struggling to fit in maybe they had to latch onto another identity.

I'm not sure but I was out in my local city the other day and spotted no less than seven young men who were attempting to present as female. They were not doing to well on that front.

My trans (ftm)autistic kid was in an specialist autistic school

not one of his autistic friends identify any more as their natal sex.

all are trans, some mtf, some ftm , many non binary

he has other friends of course not from his school and they are a mixture of straight, trans, bi, gay but EVERYONE of the autistic friends identify as trans.

I'm a primary school teacher, entering my 20th year, and I can only bring one child to mind...
It was a funny case though, this child started reception, recorded as male, but dressed in the girls uniform, the shoes, the dresses, beautiful long hair, the works. Self-identified as a boy when asked (not unreasonably) by the other children, but visually appeared as a girl. Had a name that could have gone either way, boy or girl. Think along the lines of Harley. Could get away with either.
He continued with the girls uniform all the way through primary school. The children just seemed to accept it.
Lost track of him when he went into Year 7, but I'd be interested to know how he's getting on.

I had three girls all in the one secondary school who identified as male.

Two had typical short haircuts for a girl, I'd say; the third was 'stealth', had transferred from another school and had a short back and sides.

She was quite a big girl and wore baggy shorts, top and a baseball cap. (The boys wouldn't have been allowed to dress like that in school, I must say.)

She was excused P.E. and used the disabled toilets. The boys found out when she told them that she was trans.

She very rarely attended school, so I suspect that there were various issues there.

I've said elsewhere on these boards that - so far as the girls who were openly trans were concerned - their pals seemed to be more invested in their trans identity than they were. They both used the girls' toilets and girls' changing facilities for PE.

I'm aware of one former pupil who went through a MtF transition round about 2000. My understanding is that they've had all the surgeries.

There were two men dressed as women wandering about M&S in Princes Street, Edinburgh one time last year. Both rather tall, even for men. One looked to be in his 50s, judging by the combover and grey hair. (It was dyed purple, but had worn off.)

My impression was that they were looking to be noticed, given their body language.

I haven't seen any young MtF recently. The former pupil that I mentioned in a previous post was at uni when he began to transition. He must be in his late 40s or early 50s by now.

If they are not medical, what exactly are puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones?

The Tavistock was certainly handing those out pretty freely; enough to alarm some of their staff and lead eventually to their resignation after whistleblowing failed to have any effect.

GIDS did a study on puberty blockers which began in 2011 and enrolled 44 children aged between 12 and 15 over the following three years. At the time, only those aged 16 and over were eligible for puberty blockers in the UK. When they were compelled to give up the data on that study, it revealed that all but one of these children went on to take cross-sex hormones. (There was no control group for this study, which in itself should raise questions.) They treated at least a thousand children, that is, people under thee age of eighteen. There are no records of what later became of these children, because the Tavistock didn't keep those.

The place was specifically founded to be for patients under eighteen. "The Tavistock clinic, named the Gender and Identity Development Service (GIDS), was launched in 1989 to help people aged 17 and under struggling with their gender identity." Keira Bell was treated there and prescribed puberty blockers when she was sixteen (by which time it was way too late to stop her from going through much of her puberty) and testosterone injections a year later, when she would have been seventeen.

Did you mean surgically? She didn't have the double mastectomy until she was twenty.

A pp up thread asked why Epstein would be interested in trans people?
When a pervert and sexual predator becomes bored they look for their next kick.
Chole cole addresses this in her podcast with Dr Soh.
One of the mtf people I employed was passed from man to man without love but for kinks. A very unhappy individual. You'd be surprised how many married men wanted to see them naked.
The other mtf employee was very old school. You would look twice due to the height and the hands but everyone was supportive and they were very private.
So my story up thread was even a shock to me with some limited knowledge.

Why would Epstein et al want to push trans?

Because one of the things the trans agenda does is set out to subvert child safeguarding, at a guess. All too successfully in many ways: "it will be our secret, we won't tell your parents" used to be the line pursued by a sexual abuser, not a child's teachers, for God's sake! Children used to be taught that any man encouraging them to keep his behaviour a secret from their parents was up to no good however nice he might seem; not any longer.

Also puberty blocking arrests child development. It's not hard to imagine what kind of people would be interested in keeping children in a pre-pubescent state.

Oh yes, that too. And not telling anyone about the kiddy-fiddler who said it would be their secret would add to the thrill, wouldn't it.

(why are some men so vile? why do they enjoy destroying others?)

The only genuine case I know of is still living as a man now in his late teens, born female. My now ex boyfriends daughter and 4 of her best friends are strangely now happier they 'stayed' female as if anyone believed any of them. My kids went through educate together schools in Ireland where you can be anyone you want and there are a very tiny minority of trans kids in that school. I do think it was a trend like when I was in secondary school the 'trend' was to be bisexual. None of mine have had any trends so far and as they are all just out of their teens now I am not seeing it happen. I do think that there are genuine cases of course but some kids will try anything to push back or to get attention and as a solo mum I am delighted none of mine felt that need.

Oh I know who he is. Unfortunately I know more about GLP than I would like. I just had no idea he was a MN NED.

Yet again, MN sorely disappoints. If it wasnt for all of the wonderful FWR members, I'd have left here long ago - and if not, this would definitely have sealed the deal.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · Yesterday 16:14

"some kids will try anything to push back or to get attention"

Oh lord yes. I remember my mother in the late sixties remarking in an amused way that people in their teens and early twenties at the time were very keen on being individualists and expressing their true selves, which they did by all having long hair, dressing identically in jeans and a sweater (in winter, a t-shirt in summer) and loudly supporting the same causes. This applied equally to the male and the female clones, she added thoughtfully.

A few years after that she pointed out that tattoos were the first adolescent fashion during her lifetime that the people who got them would be stuck with for the rest of their lives. (In those days removal was difficult and very expensive.) Piercings could be allowed to grow back, and would, but tattoos were not so easy to pretend had never happened. (And you might go off Maisie.)
