Haha. I had a similar reaction when my husband bought one. Just ... why. Waste of electricity if we use it, waste of space if we don't. We use it approx once a year if that.

Oh you really do, wouldn’t be without ours. Less use of the tumble drier and can be used as an ordinary airer if heat not needed …. Gets used all the time in winter when can’t hang clothes outside on the line.

OP I do think your DH can buy something for £40 that he thinks could be useful in the house without having to to ask ….

Oh goodness I think I must piss my husband off monthly with purchases for the ‘house’ and I never consult him. As long as it’s nothing massively expensive and we aren’t struggling I reckon it’s fair game is it not 🙈🤣. But in all seriousness I don’t think it’s a ridiculously stupid buy not one to die on your sword for. I mean it was just the other day I bought some new flooring for our daughters room as it was a bargain and he strictly told me no laminate wood flooring upstairs this time last year as it will be cold in winter so I bought a rug to solve that problem 🤣. In all honesty my friend has one of those from dunelm and she swears by it Xx

Personally I love my heated aired, it doesn’t take up anymore space that a normal one, and if you buy the cover too the washing dries so quickly!! For context I also have 3 normal airers and a tumble drier.

Do you double check with him before you buy anything for the house?

I wish my partner would order a heated airer. Instead he ordered a vax spot wash… over a year ago. Which has sat in the box ever since. Literally, unopened. Also, if we complained or got annoyed every time either of us made an ‘unnecessary’ purchase, we probably wouldn’t ever speak to each other. I’d let it go.

I agree with him! every purchase you make from your joint account isn't based on you asking your DH if it's ok to buy something.

It'll save on the cost of a tumble drier so really I don't see the problem. We have the £100 one ftom Lakeland and is amazing. Not a big issue really, think you're over reacting

I wouldn't be annoyed. It sounds like a sensible alternative to the expensive running cost of a tumble dryer.

My husband also bought us a heated clothes airer, I didn't see the point in it, now I can't live without it!

Same we love ours! Use it unplugged if it's sunny/warm in the house, use it heated if it's a cold day/in the evening, works great. Definitely use the tumble drier less

Reading your updates, yes you're 100% being unreasonable.
It's £40 on a functional household item (not something like a tacky starwars print or equivalent, which was kind of what I expected based on your reaction) to help him with a household chore he has 50% responsibility for.

That's a slippery slope you're descending - micromanaging small purchases and setting a precedent that things like that will need permission.

We’ve ended up with 4 airers that we’ve acquired over the years and honestly it’s great. Can wash a few loads without worrying about how to dry it (we don’t have a tumble dryer but when we did we only used it for sheets anyway). They don’t take up much space when folded away.

Tbh if you have a tumble dryer and an airer then why would you need a heated airer

It would annoy the f*ck out of me.

Its the space it takes up plus the fact it uses electricity plus the fact that if you used this type of airer instead of the normal none and 10 mins in a tumble dryer at the end whilst clothes are still slightly damp you would end up having to get the iron and ironing board out and start ironing stuff which then costs you more time

I can see exh doing this type of stuff. Setting it all up then expecting the extra work and extra electrics it would cost to run and the ironing would be down to me
