AIBU to be annoyed because I can’t find a “body double “

for context I’ve always been “heavy” for my dress size, and I’ve always been classified as “overweight” apart from a few months in my adult life.

now, the problem is that consensus says that:

a) people overestimate how “muscular” they are
b) people really only become denser (to account for the higher BMI) with heavy lifting.

either on social media or online communities (like Reddit) I seem to look substantially lighter than people with my height and weight (one person thought I had to be 10kg lighter).

I can’t fathom why can I find someone with my same stats, it’s not like I do anything particularly rare - I mostly do Pilates and running.

i just wish I could find someone that I saw and thought “yeah I look like her”.

For the record, I’m 1.59m, 64kg (which makes me overweight for my ethnicity) and I’m a size UK 8/6 And bizarrely sometimes even smaller (but I’m sure that’s vanity sizing!)

I do look toned (or like I workout) but not gym rat type.

I've just relooked at the photos and the 2nd set look like a different person to the first pair. Are they all genuinely you?

Yes they’re both me! I don’t know if the resolution shows it, but I have a scar on my left knee.

I think you’re missing the point. Whenever I’ve gained weight is because TO ME my reflection in the mirror always looks the same. I’ve only ever really noticed the difference when I’ve gained around 10kg.

Now, my goal is by having a frame of reference that looks kind of like me, I should be able to notice if I’m starting to look chunkier.

You must realise this sounds ridiculous? If not I would suggest you speak to your GP as you need some help to manage this, none of your thoughts are normal.

CatRash · 06/08/2026 20:43

I'm 157cm, 64.75kg and wear a size 8-10...usually 8 on bottom and 10 on top. I don't do any exercise though.

I've always been very naturally stocky with big thigh muscles but think that I might also have a big skeleton. I have big hands and feet (size 7!) and prominent bones (wrists, ankles, collar bone, top of my thigh etc) - I sound like a right picture lol 😂

My youngest daughter has a very similar build to me too. Even when she was born the midwives were surprised at how much she weighed for her size. I think it's all just genetics.

Well I’ve talked about it a million times, they just shrug their shoulders and tell
me
to keep doing what I’m doing

Believe it or not I’m not asking for reassurance I’m very aware I don’t look overweight, I don’t need people to tell me I don’t.

but what has happened in the past is that I feel / look OK in my head and I gradually gain weight until it’s a lot more than I’d be comfortable with, and that I think potentially is unhealthy.

i genuinely cannot trust just by “feel” so I do need to weight myself as sad as that is.

however if I were to find someone with my stats then I would be able to see the fluctuations more easily

Why would seeing someone else help?
You weigh yourself and you see the scales go up or down. You put your clothes on and they feel looser, tighter or just right.
Why do you need an external comparison?
You've mentioned various weight related health issues but looking at another person wouldn't give you any insight into that. You wouldn't have a clue about their own health, fitness and relationship with food.
Your OP makes absolutely no sense I'm afraid.

You have talked about what a million times? Your weight or your body image problems? Have you told the GP you want to find a body double, that’s what o was talking about when I said speak to the GP, not your weight management. Your feelings and thoughts surrounding your weight are extreme and absolutely not normal. That's what you need help with.

I’ve told multiple therapist and one suggested I should follow people similar to me - thus the body double- . And yes I’ve told the GP about this too, and all I got that it was understandable and that was it.

If OP weighs heavy then I must weigh "light", lol.
I can't get mybodyGallery to load or I'd look for someone there who is 159 cm tall & 37"33"35" like OP.
Whenever I put my weight, height & measurements in MBG, I ended up seeing loads of people extremely similar to my physique.

Madcats · 07/08/2026 11:04

If you are that worried that you are “fat” rather than muscular with good bone density, buy some of those scanner scales.

Withings Bodyscan spring to mind because I have one of their watches, but there are probably other brands (and there might be chemists that offer the service if you don’t want to spend ££.

DontTeaseMyDog · 07/08/2026 11:05

I'm exactly your stats! 5ft 3 and 10 stone 3.

I look absolutely nothing like you, you look great. Almost all my weight is in my tummy - got chicken legs and arms, no butt at all but a tummy to rival someone 9 months pregnant.

I would guarantee people would say I look alot heavier if I showed a side shot. But I'm a total catfish from the front/back. 😂

I don't look at your photos and think 'thats what i could be' I just think, that's crazy how we're the same but soo different.

You do not look fat or overweight at all.

They’re not very accurate. They’re fairly good at trends, but you’d need a Dexa scan (which are not that easy to get around here) to then calibrate them.

People saying it's "interesting" that OP fits in a 6/8 at her weight and height, because it doesn't apply to them, is the whole reason the OP has body dysmorphia!

I am 5'2" - 60kg - wear 6/8 - it's not some mystical thing that doesn't happen IRL but people will have you believe it so then you feel out of touch with what your eyes and experience are telling you.

OP - ignore everyone saying anything about your clothing size just because it doesn't apply to them. Clothing sizes are so arbitrary. As you know, they include vanity sizing that constantly changes and varies between manufacturers. You won't be able to find someone you can use to judge how you look, or if clothing will look good on you etc, because we are all built different. 60kg can be chubby, skinny fat or very muscular. Someone can have longer legs, or a shorter torso, so that will change body shape etc.

Just be healthy and don't worry about third party affirmation. You will get some, like me, who want to see you happy and others who are jealous, and insecure but will project that onto you when trying to "help".

bananaapplepears · 07/08/2026 15:00

I am 5ft 4 and weigh 10 stone (mid 40s in age). I'm size 8 with abs. I'm heavy fron muscle (powerlifting).

I’m 51 and same height, 61kg so a little less weight but also size 8 with abs.

minipie · 07/08/2026 16:09

Ok, I’m the same height as you but about a stone lighter. I’m a bit less toned than you, but not far off. I’m also a size 6/8 (except in anything that’s tight on the bum and thighs). I’m much more hourglass/pear than you. You have a similar waist size to me and much thinner legs. So I’m not a body double but a near ish comparator.

I actually cannot fathom where you are keeping the extra stone! Maybe you have very heavy bones? Two livers?? An extra brain somewhere?

Who knows? Why does it matter?

SexyFrenchDepression · 07/08/2026 18:29

NoHotGirlsInHell · 06/08/2026 12:07

How interesting. I’m 5’4 and 8st and a size 6-8. At 10st I’m a large 10/small 12.

Yes same, probably more an 8 but can wear some size 6 bottoms. At 10 stone I am definitely a size 12 and look really chubby.

Its really hard to tell from a photo as you can't see someone's proportions that well. I would say the OP looks slim but would guess at a size 10. I think you look great have great skin!

whatcanthematterbe81 · 07/08/2026 18:31

Crunchymum · 06/08/2026 11:50

So you weigh 10st and you fit into size 6?

Now I'm intrigued.

I weigh 2st less and am a size 8/10.

Stop worrying about how others with your measurements look! Why does it even matter what other people who weigh the same look like? You come out favourably in your comparisons?

Edited

And this is why we’re all different. I weigh 8 stone and am size 4/6. You weigh the same as me and a bigger size. It is kinda mental really and u get what she’s saying, she doesn’t know anyone else who weighs what she does with the same figure. Not something I would really give much thought to but it’s kind of interesting tbf

I am more straight than hourglass and that definitely pushes my size up more, i find it depends where things sit, if I was 9st I am definitely a 10 not an 8. Even when I was at my most toned I wasn't really an 8.

I have a friend who is about 5ft6 and 10 stone, she is tiny but just seems to have heavy bones (i know thats not a thing) but she has thicker wrists and ankles than me, i have tiny bones 😂

If it's iron deficiency anaemia you should be able to fix it over a few months. The advice nowadays is one iron tablet (can buy from a pharmacy counter) every other day on an empty stomach and a couple of hours before milk/tea/coffee/PPIs. Vitamin C with iron tablets probably helps absorption.

If it's period related there's hormonal contraception and non hormonal things like tranexamic acid to reduce how much iron you lose.

Have a read about 'lean PCOS' (may not be you but worth looking at if you're worried about insulin resistance).

The insulin resistance tips I've come across are: going for a walk/ moving about for a few minutes after eating. Also pairing higher carbohydrate food with protein.

Re diabetes - it's mostly genetic. Yo-yo dieting is very unhelpful. If you're being diagnosed with diabetes at your current weight it's worth looking at the unusual types of diabetes - it might not be straightforward type 2 but something else (eg LADA / type 1.5)

Remember medicines are a tool to help and may be advisable genetics wise regardless of your body size.

Bowies · 07/08/2026 18:41

I can’t really follow your concern OP?

You are carrying a lot of muscle which weighs more than fat.

You know are a very small dress size and more important that you are taking care of yourself.

Looking for a body double I thought you were an actor!

my iron deficiency is down to a rare generic mutation, which means I have to have iron infusions once a year.

my sister is 45, my mom got diagnosed at 70, my grandma was 40.

i don’t yo-yo diet btw, if anything my diet is very static.

I know I don’t look overweight! But I know there’s a massive disconnect to how I look and how a lot of people with my stats look like.

You look how I'd expect someone with your stats to look. Your proportions look similar to mine before I had DC. The weight looks to be from your legs but the flat tum makes you look slim.

pastadish · 07/08/2026 18:47

It depends on all sorts of things. I’m 165cm and about 63kg. I look slim but I’m a size 12, probably because I’m quite curvy my waist is smaller and my hips are bigger. A 10 would fit nice if if didn’t have to go over my hips and my boobs are not the smallest either . I’ve never seen size 6 or 8 in my life.
But it doesn’t matter what I weight or what clothes size I am at the end of the day I try to be as healthy as I can

YoQuieroVino · 07/08/2026 18:53

Realistically, the quickest, easiest and most reliable way to know if you’ve put weight on is to weigh yourself.
