AIBU to be annoyed because I can’t find a “body double “

for context I’ve always been “heavy” for my dress size, and I’ve always been classified as “overweight” apart from a few months in my adult life.

now, the problem is that consensus says that:

a) people overestimate how “muscular” they are
b) people really only become denser (to account for the higher BMI) with heavy lifting.

either on social media or online communities (like Reddit) I seem to look substantially lighter than people with my height and weight (one person thought I had to be 10kg lighter).

I can’t fathom why can I find someone with my same stats, it’s not like I do anything particularly rare - I mostly do Pilates and running.

i just wish I could find someone that I saw and thought “yeah I look like her”.

For the record, I’m 1.59m, 64kg (which makes me overweight for my ethnicity) and I’m a size UK 8/6 And bizarrely sometimes even smaller (but I’m sure that’s vanity sizing!)

I do look toned (or like I workout) but not gym rat type.

Like I said, I’d hope I’d be able to see their fluctuations because I’m definitely blind to mine unless I weight myself.

That’s how most people ‘see’ their weight fluctuations, by weighing themselves.

Stayinganontoday · 06/08/2026 11:47

I know I don’t look overweight! But I know there’s a massive disconnect to how I look and how a lot of people with my stats look like.

You're giving yourself ACTUAL body dysmorphia. You are a size 6/8 which is tiny. Your weight is reasonable for your height. We all die. Your aim is to keep your risk factors as low as possible. Not to plague yourself. For what it's worth I think you look like your height and weight match fine

perlesoup · 06/08/2026 18:17

Marroon · 06/08/2026 17:27

A size 6/8 at 10stone and 5”3 seems slightly off. I’m 5”2 and 7.5 stone and comfortably an 8.

I don’t understand what you’re looking for, why would you need a body double in the first place? Is a size 8 really so rare??

I’m 5’2 and weigh 10 st 4 - wear a 12, on a good day

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 06/08/2026 18:19

I think you should try to ignore the whole BMI dress size thing, and just concentrate on feeling happy and healthy.

My kids have always been heavy for their size and it does cause my dd to be a bit paranoid about her weight (she is a small size 8 and looks very slim). They get their dense build from their dad.

I’m the opposite. I’m much more overweight than they think I am - I have tiny bones and really shouldn’t be a size 14. But I’m doing my best!

That’s my side… anywho my waist is currently 66cm my hips are 90cm and my chest is 94cm.

Im aware I semi look “boxy”

So I'm 1 inch taller and at 10 stone was a size 8. Sadly I'm not that now. For me my weight seems to equally spread across my whole body so I need to gain about 2 stone to go up a dress size because it's just a little bit everywhere.

Superscientist · 06/08/2026 18:37

Some people weigh more than others. I am a slim frame but weigh a reasonable weight. When I was in treatment for an eating disorder the staff were expecting my BMI to be lower than it was because of my appearance.
I have it more recently where people have assumed I'm probably underweight but I'm quite comfortable in the normal range. I'm particularly slim around the wrists, shoulders/arms and waist.

I'm 156 cm and 52kg as a size 6-8 depending on the cut of the outfit. My boobs are 30F as I'm breastfeeding at the moment which is currently my limiting factor on whether clothes fit! I have clothes that I have been wearing for 20 years at between 48 and 58 kg for size 6-8. I wore some regular clothes right up until being 9 months pregnant.

I recently fitted into an aged 6 t shirt of my daughter as it was meant to be a loose fit on her and it had stretchy fabric. It really was only a fraction smaller than my T shirts.

My partner is the same quite thin but a normal weight and my daughter was at one point borderline overweight but her paediatrician and dietician weren't concerned as she "looked normally proportioned" and was in clothes 12-18 month clothes at 3 as she's very short. She has since stretched out and grown upwards with minimal weight gain and is now towards the bottom of a normal size for height.

Your stats are not representative op, probably because you are muscular, or maybe because we are all different. I am about 1kg heavier than you, so 65kg, but 6cm taller at 165cm but am a size 12.... Like previous posters to get to 8/10 I would be significantly lighter I would guess 55kg.

Positivepositron · 06/08/2026 19:11

How much weight would you need to lose to have a healthy bmi.
Waist size is supposed to be a good health indicator, should be less than half your height which yours is. I am surprised though as it doesn't look as small as 26inches.
Perhaps you have dense bones and you do have quite a bit of muscle but I disagree you'd be too skinny if you lost weight. But it depends how much weight it would take to get you to a healthy bmi if it would be sensible or crazy.

Positivepositron · 06/08/2026 19:13

For the record I'm 3cm shorter than you, 5kg lighter than you, have lots of muscle but also a fair amount of fat. I would not fit in a 6 but as I'm very short size 8 can fit. I don't look dissimilar to you but my waist measurents ares bigger.

EnigmaticEnid · 06/08/2026 19:14

I’m 5’3 and weigh just over 10 stone. I still don’t really understand your point, even after reading all of your posts. There’s no need to be miffed or preoccupied by the number on the scale. Be preoccupied by being strong and healthy instead.

Around 7kg…. But I like my current proportions, I genuinely would not like to get any smaller (been there and didn’t like it).

Because my whole family is plagued by weight related problems, and even my mother (who is my same height and even lighter than me!) ended up getting diabetes in the end.

my sister who was also lighter than me, still got diabetes.

my father has hypertension (and glaucoma)

my grandmother died of a blood clot caused by hypertension (she also had diabetes) and was also overweight.

So even if you saw the ‘fluctuations’ of your body double, you wouldn’t change anything?

Stayinganontoday · 06/08/2026 19:20

EmpressStorm · 06/08/2026 18:08

So you want to Ger in contact with someone who will send you Body images every time they lose or gain weight.

you can’t be serious.

Of course not! I never said that.

So you've made your decision you are happy with how you look over and above BMI health guidance.
Your waist size is healthy.
You seem to want confirmation that you are differently bodied that the BMI guidance is irrelevant, it may be worth paying for a dexa scan or a full private medical or something.

Seeing a person with the exact same proportions would be pretty irrelevant.

MyDarlingRose · 06/08/2026 19:20

Stayinganontoday · 06/08/2026 17:10

Yes and my waist is 26in which is why I’m not necessarily a size 6, just sometimes I fit in one.

You must have a really petite overall frame then if your waist is 26in as it looks very similar in width to ribs and hips. You might just be proportionally small

YoQuieroVino · 06/08/2026 19:21

Stayinganontoday · 06/08/2026 19:20

How will you see their fluctuations then? Fluctuations are changes in weight. Surely you could only see these if they send you pictures when their weight changes?

I would if my weight goes the higher end of the scale, not the lower.

Id like a visual frame of reference that isn’t me.

But you've just said you don't want to change your weight that you find it perfect as it is.

Positivepositron · 06/08/2026 19:24

Also your bmi is actually overweight for all ethnicities so it's probably advisable to at the very least get it to under 25.

I think you’re missing the point. Whenever I’ve gained weight is because TO ME my reflection in the mirror always looks the same. I’ve only ever really noticed the difference when I’ve gained around 10kg.

Now, my goal is by having a frame of reference that looks kind of like me, I should be able to notice if I’m starting to look chunkier.

Surely just weigh yourself then and take action as appropriate.

FookFookFook · 06/08/2026 11:54

Truthfully - at 159cm I’d believe you to be about 64kg in that picture. But I still don’t quite understand what’s bothering you? You exercise and feel good so what’s the issue?

Would you? OP looks smaller than that to me. 159 is really short, so most people would look larger than that at that height and weight.

Yes, that’s why I plan to do, but it’s a pain!
