for context I’ve always been “heavy” for my dress size, and I’ve always been classified as “overweight” apart from a few months in my adult life.

now, the problem is that consensus says that:

a) people overestimate how “muscular” they are
b) people really only become denser (to account for the higher BMI) with heavy lifting.

either on social media or online communities (like Reddit) I seem to look substantially lighter than people with my height and weight (one person thought I had to be 10kg lighter).

I can’t fathom why can I find someone with my same stats, it’s not like I do anything particularly rare - I mostly do Pilates and running.

i just wish I could find someone that I saw and thought “yeah I look like her”.

For the record, I’m 1.59m, 64kg (which makes me overweight for my ethnicity) and I’m a size UK 8/6 And bizarrely sometimes even smaller (but I’m sure that’s vanity sizing!)

I do look toned (or like I workout) but not gym rat type.

I know what you're getting at OP. On holiday recently we were all comparing thigh muscle and although I'm the heaviest, my thighs and bum were rock solid compared to everyone else's and 2 of them were men. It made me feel less humongous and it explained a lot.

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 06/08/2026 12:24

I would not have guessed size 6 or 8 from that photo.

I'm not saying you're fat btw. But you're not thin either. What are your measurements?

Namechangedforgoodreasons · 06/08/2026 12:26

I can understand comparing your and others' body shapes, but I simply can’t understand what difference it makes, how much you or other people weigh. You sound obsessive.

MayaPyjama · 06/08/2026 12:37

What’s your waist and hips measurements?

I’m 163cm and 54kg, and I haven’t fit into a size 6 in years, at least in trousers. I’m an 8 pushing a 10 in some places - but you look a lot boxier/squarer/wider than I am in the middle and so I’m surprised you can fit into size 4-6.

Although I would have sized up in the shorts you’re wearing so maybe that’s the difference (I don’t like anything that cuts in with elastic).

You look a perfectly healthy weight though, so it is probably unhealthy you’re giving it
this much brain space. But I am someone who puts more stock into cm body measurements rather than your actual weight as weight doesn’t account for composition.

whataeffingnightmare · 06/08/2026 12:38

I think your question is slightly strangely phrased (if it is a question), but no, not that unusual.

I'm now BMI 25 and at 5’1” you’d expect me to be wearing size 12s, but actually comfortable in size 8s, even at BMI 34 I was only a size 16.

also bear in mind vanity sizing, last winter I bought a velvet pencil skirt that was an exact copy in a different colour of one already in my wardrobe. The new one was size 8, the old one size 14 and they are identical in size when laid one on top of the other.

That’s my side… anywho my waist is currently 66cm my hips are 90cm and my chest is 94cm.

Im aware I semi look “boxy”

So you weigh 10st and you fit into size 6?

Now I'm intrigued.

I weigh 2st less and am a size 8/10.

Stop worrying about how others with your measurements look! Why does it even matter what other people who weigh the same look like? You come out favourably in your comparisons?

Edited

And me. No way could I get into a “normal” size 6. Although clothes manufacturers sizing can vary wildly. 🤷‍♀️

But, I really can’t be arsed to worry about what other people’s bodies look like.

EmpressStorm · 06/08/2026 12:54

I think maybe as you’re quite short, it looks different on hou. You are clearly a healthy weight, I’d have guessed a size ten from your image, but I’m aware smaller people take smaller sizes and I’m judging by my own body, if that makes sense,it’s incredibly hard to judge with no context ie beside someone else.

im five inches taller, and 2 kg lighter and I am a standard size 8, and I’d say I look a lot slimmer than you, as I guess I would due to height weight difference, but there is no way I’d fit in a 6 as you can, not unless it was stretchy waist or vanity sizing. A size 8 will look v different on me than you.

‘you also have a long torso and short legs I think looking at the image, which is why your tummy looks as it does, I’m the opposite, I’ve a short body and long legs.

i still can’t grasp why you want to find a body double and compare bodies though, we are all different,

take two people the same weight and height, some will have long torsos like you, some will have short torsos , some will have short legs, some long, some in between, some will carry their weight on their tummy, some their lower half as you do, there is no way to compare.

I think you look a healthy weight, that’s all that matters.

Just seen this, you’re very focused on posting your mid section but not full body, am I correct you carry your weight in your legs/backside and have a long body and short legs?

I think you’d definitely look smaller than me given your stats. I seem to have a longer torso in comparison to my legs.

and the comparison I find helpful, because it’s very hard for me to judge me just on looks - the scale is helpful so I’m trying to embrace it a bit more.

Not really it’s more a matter that I don’t have a full
length mirror that isn’t either at an angle or that has enough space to take a full length picture

You’re overthinking it. I didn’t even really understand your OP. Why do you need a ‘body double’?

If you’re fit and healthy I’d try and forget about stats, influencers and whether or not you’re ‘dense’ ‘heavy for my dress size’ or whatever.

Do you enjoy clothes and have ones that fit and look nice or do you mostly wear gym stuff, show a lot of skin and rely on your body shape / amount of muscle to feel good?

Boreded · 06/08/2026 13:08

FookFookFook · 06/08/2026 11:54

Truthfully - at 159cm I’d believe you to be about 64kg in that picture. But I still don’t quite understand what’s bothering you? You exercise and feel good so what’s the issue?

Do you genuinely think that she looks overweight in that picture?

JanBlues2026 · 06/08/2026 13:10

You do looked very toned and fit, muscular thighs and torso will be where the ‘weight’ is I reckon.

Boreded · 06/08/2026 13:11

Are you sure you have your height right? I know this sounds stupid, but you just don’t look that short.

When I was 10st at 5ft6 (4inches bigger than you) I still had plenty of jiggle, and was pretty muscular from years of sports.

MeridaBrave · 06/08/2026 13:11

I’m 61kg at 163cm and very muscular, size 8/10. I lift heavy weights. I consider myself a lifestyle bodybuilder.

Whats your waist and hip measurement? Can you estimate your body fat %

If you are an 6/8 that would give your very superior muscle mass.

because

a) my family has weight related problems (including glaucoma, hypertension, diabetes, insulin resistance)

b) I was bullied for my weight my whole life

d) my parents were the complete opposite and told me I was fine even though realistically I was at least chubby, and when I’ve been a “healthier weight” they accused me of being too thin

c) as a response to the above I feel there’s a potential
i can feel or think I look fitter/lighter than I actually do

I know I don’t look overweight! But I know there’s a massive disconnect to how I look and how a lot of people with my stats look like.

I only understand feet and inches and stones and lbs but you don't look too dissimilar to me. I suspect I'm shorter though.

Oh. I hope you can find a way towards some eventual peace with your body.

This whole thread is just body dysmorphia central and compliment/reassurance seeking. You look fine, why do you need to find a body double? Why are you posting photos of your body on reddit and mumsnet asking people how you look and comparing weight/body types with other women? It’s so bleak and depressing. Is this really worth your time and headspace? Your issue is mental, not physical.

BMI is a load of rubbish. We all know that. If you’re genuinely worried about your health speak to your GP. We can’t judge your health or the potential for any pre conditions or conditions you may have based on a few photos of you lifting your shirt up and flexing.

It’s bizarre that as women we still obsess over this (and I say this as a woman who has a 15 year history of eating disorders). It isn’t healthy to be posting this.

Pistachiocake · 06/08/2026 13:20

People do have different body types-look up ectomorph etc. It is true that women, particularly as they age, lose muscle (and most of us thought of weights as more of a male thing until fairly recently-those of you who knew better, I'm glad).
Quite a lot of the fittest, healthiest people I know are overweight, if you use BMI. It makes me really sad that we still use this, and focus on weight as a number on the scales. I'd much rather be 11 stone and fit and strong, but some women seem to just want to say they're under 10 stone, as if that is what matters.
I'd advise speaking to a trainer at a local gym to get specific health and training advice for your questions, and support your long term goals.

im very happy with my fitness goals. Besides I’m not a “gym person” I’m an endurance athlete so the goals are very different.

Believe it or not I’m not asking for reassurance I’m very aware I don’t look overweight, I don’t need people to tell me I don’t.

but what has happened in the past is that I feel / look OK in my head and I gradually gain weight until it’s a lot more than I’d be comfortable with, and that I think potentially is unhealthy.

i genuinely cannot trust just by “feel” so I do need to weight myself as sad as that is.

however if I were to find someone with my stats then I would be able to see the fluctuations more easily

You’ll never find someone with your exact stats though. That’s the problem with comparison. Someone could have your exact weight height and measurements and still look different because bodies look different depending on where we hold fat and muscle and just extra skin. I sold my wedding dress to a girl my height with the same bust waist and hip measurements and the dress fit her totally differently than it fit me.

Comparison really isn’t the way forward I promise you.
