What can I spend my new fortune on?

My ex paid very little child maintenance. Was on the fiddle with his boss to only pay £5 a week. He had over £2000 arrears.
Additionally, no one has set eyes on this piece of 💩in over 10 years including his children. I seriously considered that he may have died during COVID.
I am a petty bitch so wouldn’t let the the CMS close my account when my son turned 19. This morning I received a text to say a payment had been made to my account.
£15.65 a month will be paid to me starting this month. It will take him 10 years to pay off the arrears, I will be retired by the time it is cleared, he will be 70.
I would have loved to have seen his face when he saw the benefit reduction due to CMS arrears. Every month, I am going to spend that £15 on something ridiculous- suggestions please!

Id go for a lottery ticket each week and save the rest in a ISA or premium bonds. . initially for the first 6 months or so maybe save up enough for a to treat yourself to a spa day and spend all day in a white fluffy dressing gown and post a few selfies in your social media..

Eeyorefan · 08/08/2026 19:35

Axe throwing session, I’m sure if you asked you could print out a photo to stick on the target.

madaboutpurple · 08/08/2026 20:16

I would save some money up so that you can go on a day out with your DC.

Dippydoo999 · 08/08/2026 23:32

If it were me I would get something really indulgent every month that I would never normally buy. Maybe some Alain ducasse chocolate (£18 for 4 pieces) or swinging by a champagne bar for a glass when out shopping. Things that you would usually spend a fiver on but get the decadent version! You deserve some luxury!!

Proudestmumofone1 · 09/08/2026 06:36

Surely a target practice customised with his face? With paint splats rather than guns, let’s keep it funny. Ah like pie face game from 2015!

sarahsunshine1 · 09/08/2026 06:46

How are you winning exactly by buying something ridiculous with it? 2k isn't going to be worth much by the time you are 60. £5 is useless ..don't know how he got away with that or how you let him. That's even if he keeps it up. What a man. I wouldn't waste your time thinking much about it tbh.

Highlighta · 09/08/2026 07:12

Do you know if he checks your social media?

My friend got divorced from a horrible man and we know he still checks up on what she is doing. We are both divorced so do quite a few things together, but we are by no means well off financially.

It started off when we visited a Buddhist temple for the day and she added the photos to her WhatsApp status. A few days later she heard via a mutual friend how "disgusting" she is for spending all HIS money on travelling overseas. Meanwhile we were about an hour away from where we live.

So we couldn't just leave it at that. So we go to local places that are other country themed and take photos just to post to piss him off. And we always have a photo taken together so he thinks we travelled together 😂

According to him we have now had great holiday on his expense to China, Italy and most recently, Greece 😂
The most ridiculous part is, he doesn't pay any CM anyway, and all my friend walked away with from that marriage was a car. Which she sold. And these are the funds we are apparently travelling the world on 😂

In fact just last night we were laughing about it and next month we are going to get AI to make us a photo of skydiving or something equally out there

But OP we too are petty, so I think you should spend that extra every month on something that you liked to do/eat, that he didn't.

I do love your persistence with this though.

IsItWickedNotToCare · 09/08/2026 08:05

As a big cream and jam scone fan I would take myself out for a cream tea every month and whilst enjoying it, revel in the fact that it's 'on him', cheers ex! Xxx

Gettingbysomehow · 09/08/2026 10:30

Save it all up until you have enough to pay a hitman.

This is fabulous

I spend the child maintenance on musical theatre lessons for DD . ExH has always loathed musical theatre. It was DD who wanted to get into it and she's the one who loves doing it but it does give me a deep satisfaction to spend the money on it Grin

(Just to add - he mainly wants "cash in hand" in a bid to pay as little as possible. If you believe CMS he must be living on the breadline. I find the children's private education and all their living costs)

TheReflectiveQualityofGlass · 09/08/2026 13:35

My vote is just put it into an high interest account - highest you can get with the amount. If you can then match it to double the amount. Funnel it there every month and in 6 years time use that £1000 - £2000 to go towards a really nice holiday. The best you can get. Then repeat. But in the meantime don’t let him take up any space in your head.

My ex is dodging paying his way too and CSA are crap. He pays half of what he should. There should be prison sentences. It’s a form of financial abuse.

FurForksSake · 09/08/2026 13:38

I’d buy a plant every month and make a windowsill or garden out of the money. Something beautiful out of something ugly.

How I let him get away with it? Are you having a laugh? You clearly have never had to go through the joys of the CSA or CMS. He submits his wage slip, they calculate his payments. He was on the fiddle with his boss to earn the minimum wage and get the rest paid cash in hand. Nothing I could do about it! I even reported the company to the tax office but no joys. There are thousands of men out there paying the bare minimum for their children because they can get away with it and they have no morals. The number of men who are self employed and fiddle the books to avoid paying both tax and child support is obscene but because this is predominately a woman’s problem, nothing ever gets done about it. The CMS are useless, the only reason that I am getting this useless amount is because I point blank refused to let them close my case when my son turned 19, otherwise he would have got away with it.

My friends and I had long drunken conversations about this about 10 years ago! 😂

Wow - I had no idea tbh, so I'm sorry if I came off accusatory there, not of it is your fault. Didn't realize that could happen so easily to be honest. For any father being tasked to pay £5 seemes crazy but it just highlights how messed up the system is if that's common, it's stacked against us. My mum was abandoned with 7 kids in the 90s.. I know all about men having no morals! I also know about strong Mums though and its sounds like you have been strong so keep it up. Some men we are better off without in our lives at the end of the day. I know looking back - as hard as it was, our mother was more than enough and 100 times the person he was. Best of luck with it all!

TulipsAndPancakes · 09/08/2026 23:52

I'd set myself a £15 charity shop or primark challenge every month 😁

TulipsAndPancakes · 09/08/2026 23:54

P.S my dad evaded child maintenance all his life leaving my mum to do everything for us money wise...then one day she received a cheque for 10p from CSA and the case was closed . She had the cheque framed!!

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 10/08/2026 09:45

Id do something frivolous and petty that hed hate, but now and again invest my 15 quid in a microloan so the prick will be inadvertently funding another woman who is struggling. If you or anyone wants, here's my code for lend with care, you get an extra 15 pounds to lend too.lendwithcare.org/referral/6FK90A

You definitely need to sponsor a snake in a zoo and name it after him. Preferably a zoo near to where he lives so someone he knows might see it.

But snakes are quite beautiful and useful. Something slimy and bottom feeding would be more applicable.

I would either save it all every month and then use it towards a really nice holiday to celebrate your retirement or I'd save it and take the money out each year for a special day trip or activity you've always wanted to do.
Or put it into premium bonds and you might get lucky.

I wouldn't spend it on something daft and trivial each month, but that's just me.
Still, I'd be tempted by the adopt a cockroach mentioned upthread though! So maybe do that with the first month's and then start being sensible!

I could be wrong, but I think OP want's to make a point of wasting it. A final two fingers - I managed without your money then and I don't need it now!

@RamsayBoltonsConscience And well done to you

Bjorkdidit · 10/08/2026 10:20

Exactly. She's also said that she's in a good financial position now so doesn't need to save up for years on end to be able to afford a holiday, she can just pay for one anyway.

So she wants lots of little daft things, to have a little 'fuck you' moment every month.

My prick of an ex is doing something similar so he only pays the bare minimum. The CMS is appalling. They know he earns extra in dividends but do nothing. The laws need to be tighter.

apeaceful2026 · 11/08/2026 11:09

If you don't need it for bills, you could lend it each month to people living in hardship around the world with small businesses.

It might bring something positive out of his negativity.
