Jamie Oliver joined us for a Facebook Live to talk about his new book, 5 Ingredients: Quick and Easy Food. During the interview, he was asked which five ingredients he would take if he was stranded on a desert island. This is what he said…

1. Pumpkin

1. Pumpkin

“It can be cooked in so many different ways and is a great energy food. You can use the seeds which are incredibly nutritious and once picked it will last for months and months.”

2. Lemon juice

2. Lemon juice

“Whether it's the skin or the juice, it gives you that hit of vitamin C. It's like the treble in music; You need it! You need it!”

3. Chillies

3. Chillies

“It's not just heat that I love but chillies stimulate endorphins – the happy hormones – and give you a rush….a literal rush! I love cooking with chillies.”

4. Herbs

4. Herbs

“You have to have some herb! Would it be mint or basil? I'd have to go for basil…”

5. Onions

5. Onions

“We take them for granted but when you grow onions they're not boring. The buds are delicious and even a fat onion will go through a spring onion stage and a garlic stage. Roast a whole onion – it's sweet and delicious!”

Jamie says:

“Pumpkin, lemon juice, basil, chilli and onion – that's a great mix. We can spear fish, get salt from the sea, catch a wild boar and light a fire. Come hang out with me! We'll have a great time.”
