We at Mumsnet are running a campaign to get the government to compel large companies to publish their parental leave policies, alongside their gender pay gap reporting.

We know that jobseekers who are planning on starting families believe these policies are really crucial. However, they're understandably scared to ask about the policies at interview stage because they think it'll make a job offer less likely. So prospective mothers and fathers are having to make employment decisions – without having sight of a policy that is going to have a huge effect on their family life and finances.

As part of the campaign we've written to all the FTSE 100 companies who don't currently publish their policies and as a result…

  • Nine companies (including M&S, Barratt Homes, National Grid, Centrica and Sainsbury's) have said they'll actively review their policies, and
  • 10 companies (including ITV, Schroders, Hiscox and Just Eat) have said they intend to publish in the near future.
