For most of us, the Christmas celebrations begin at the start of December and go on throughout the month - because it’s not just about celebrating with close family, you have to fit in parties and dinners with all those you love, including colleagues and close friends.
While spending Christmas with our loved ones has become more important for one in five of us than it was pre-pandemic, we often spend Christmas Day in multiple locations and with friends as well as family. In fact, one in three are planning a ‘friendmas’ - a mini Christmas dinner with friends.
This means eating - and thinking about - food, food and more food, which can make it hard to come up with different ideas for catering for all of the events. This can include having to plan everything from what to eat with family on Christmas Eve, as well as what to cook when hosting friends for that friendsmas meal - or even looking for an alternative to a traditional Christmas dinner.
For some of our Mumsnet users, this includes cooking up an Alpine feast.
On Christmas Eve we have an 'Alpine' supper, cheese fondue and a pierrade for the meat eaters.

My family has had a tradition of a Swiss cheese fondue on Christmas Eve for about 35 years now. If I’m honest I prefer it to Christmas dinner. My DC haven’t quite got the taste for it yet though so we tend to do baked camembert for them but they dip all the same stuff in.
