"I’ve resigned from the Labour Party today. I was accused of transphobia by the usual suspects, and told I must attend a disciplinary hearing. My membership suspended too. Not really up to fighting it so I’ve saved them the trouble.
I feel free to carry on campaigning for women."

The Labour Party is bro-ken.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 14/05/2019 22:02

Yet Madigan behaves like a a constant dick. Rude, aggressive, awful. Multiple complaints. Nothing.

Oh Labour. What have you become?

OhHolyJesus · 14/05/2019 22:03

I don't mean to sound selfish but can the meeting tomorrow not go ahead if he isn't part of the party - he is still a Lord right?

I feel for the guy I really do. We know who is at the centre of this.

FermatsTheorem · 14/05/2019 22:05

Yes, he will still be in the House of Lords, presumably as a cross-bencher (i.e. unaffiliated either to the government or the opposition).

Popchyk · 14/05/2019 22:09

"I feel free to carry on campaigning for women."

Good for him.

Genderfreelass · 14/05/2019 22:09

Probably not a bad move. Labour have become a joke party 😕 everything is transphobic nowadays.

Moonie will hopefully be able to do more as an independent Lord without party restrictions.

Good luck and thank you for standing up for women and girls.

2BthatUnnoticed · 14/05/2019 22:11

Thank you Lewis Moodie for understanding that women need sex-based protections, and it doesn’t mean we hate anyone.

The fact that your party pushed you out for that says a lot about them, none of it good.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 14/05/2019 22:13

It breaks my heart to see what the Labour Party has become.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 14/05/2019 22:13

And thank you Lord Moonie.

OhHolyJesus · 14/05/2019 22:17

Thank fuck for that.

He'll get more done without be tied to the sinking ship that is the Labour Party.

Phew I feel quite upbeat now. Panic over.

No surprise tbh.

The Labour Party is an utter state.

Disciplinary for this but not for anti semitism.

Popchyk · 14/05/2019 22:22

And gosh, the Labour Party takes years to investigate claims of anti-semitism.

But somehow they manage to move very quickly when it comes to claims of transphobia.

KarenTheCashRegister · 14/05/2019 22:24

What does the Labpur party stand for nowadays? Who is it actually for?

OrchidInTheSun · 14/05/2019 22:24

Thank you a lord Moonie for standing by your principles and women.

The Labour Party is an utter disgrace. I've voted for them for 30 years. They have made me politically homeless and they couldn't give a shiny shit

Outofinspiration · 14/05/2019 22:24

What the fuck has become of the Labour Party? I can't get my head around it tbh.

Outofinspiration · 14/05/2019 22:25

What does the Labpur party stand for nowadays? Who is it actually for?

Exactly. Apart from a tiny handful of wokey wokey types, who does Labour think they actually appeal to? What are they thinking?!

RedToothBrush · 14/05/2019 22:31

A Liberal educated middle class group of utopians who know fuck all about reality and 'when bad things happen'.

And I say this as someone who is liberal, middle class and educated but understands what happens 'when bad things happen'.

The original purpose of the Labour Party of course was to step in 'when bad things happen' and stop them happening.

But given they no longer know who are most at risk of bad things this is a bit of an issue and extensional crisis for the party.

thatdamnwoman · 14/05/2019 22:39

A couple of years ago when I started to become disillusioned with Labour I was given a pep talk by a dyed-in-the-wool Labour woman who'd been a member for 35 years and was horrified that I could imagine voting for any other party. Today she sent me an email to say she'd formally left Labour and joined the Greens. When Labour is shedding people like her they are in serious trouble.

boatyardblues · 14/05/2019 22:44

Updates like this are helpful. I now know who I will be voting for in the European elections.

GetOffMyTERF · 14/05/2019 22:44

Lewis Moonie is excellent, and good on him for the utter defiance of this tweet. I was a Mayday4Women resigner after over 20 years as activist, campaigner and elected officer. Labour is destroying itself.

Fallingirl · 14/05/2019 22:48

Soooo, if I understand this correctly, he was suspended and called in to a disciplinary session, for arranging a meeting.

Not for saying anything “transphobic”, but for arranging a meeting.

He was suspended for allowing women to speak.

That is actually shocking.

LangCleg · 14/05/2019 22:49

A Liberal educated middle class group of utopians who know fuck all about reality and 'when bad things happen'.

Yep. See: Ann Widdecombe getting a standing ovation in a Labour heartland ex mining community. Whatever you think about Brexit, it's blindingly obvious Woke Labour is being abandoned by its central constituency.

LangCleg · 14/05/2019 22:49

Thank you, Lewis, for everything you have done for women.
