Dr Stock has just tweeted this text of a motion to be put to the party conference in September

d3n8a8pro7vhmx.cloudfront.net/womensequality/pages/5826/attachments/original/1532600430/Fnl_Gender_recognition_act_motion_final.pdf?1532600430

Obviously the motion hasn't been passed yet.

Motion text: 1 The Women’s Equality Party recognises the damage done by socially constructed gender 2 stereotypes and supports changes to the Gender Recognition Act 2004. The Women’s Equality 3 Party supports changes to the current process by which transgender people are able to receive 4 legal recognition of their changed gender.

5 The Women’s Equality Party supports a process of legal recognition of changed gender which does 6 not require medical reports nor two years’ worth of documentation but a process of self- 7 determination of gender. The Women’s Equality Party supports legal recognition of non-binary 8 people.

9 The Women’s Equality Party calls on the Governments and administrations of the UK to make the 10 following changes to the current process as they revise the Gender Recognition Act 2004:

11 ● Change to the requirement to submit two supporting medical reports, one of a diagnosis of 12 gender dysphoria and one detailing treatment received. Change to the requirement to submit 13 documentation to prove the person has lived as their acquired gender for two years. Instead 14 require a self-determination process to change gender and to obtain a Gender Recognition 15 Certificate and new birth certificate. 16 ● Remove the requirement of spousal consent to obtain legal recognition of changed gender for 17 married people. 18 ● Allow people to change their gender to a third gender option as well as to male and female.
Motion rationale:

19 The Women’s Equality Party should clarify its position as changes to the Gender Recognition Act 20 (GRA) 2004 are being considered by the Governments and administrations of the UK. This change 21 would add depth to the already stated Women’s Equality Party position of supporting the right of an

I don't see the point of the women's equality party if it includes people with Y chromosomes and anyone can self identify as a woman. If it isn't there because of the disadvantages women suffer because of their sex then what is it there for? There isn't a need for a political party for feminine people surely.

Bowlofbabelfish · 27/07/2018 12:19

Sorry how exactly are they a party for women with that stance? Confused

UpstartCrow · 27/07/2018 12:20

WEP are a drain on women's resources. What do they actually do for us in return for taking our money?

Bowlofbabelfish · 27/07/2018 12:21

It’s like saying you’re for women because you won’t charge us for the chains, handmaiden bonnet or scold’s bridle... all free! Such equal!

Perhaps I could start a party based on free Christmas decorations for turkeys...? Turkequality for all!

Wanderabout · 27/07/2018 12:21

If a political party says men are women if they say they are it hands the ability to any man who wants to to dissolve women's rights on his say so.

It makes it impossible to accurately name or track sexism.

The challenges specific to being born in a female body would remain but become invisible.

How does any of that advance women's equality?

Have any of them thought how it might hinder it?

If this motion passes they will have signed their own death warrant without having one councillor, or MP. What a waste of time and effort.

So much for Sophie Walker's listening exercise then eh? Colour me surprised that WEP are pro self ID, with zero interest in the impact on women & girls. Might just be a motion but I can't see many people willing to stand up and voice objections at their conference. Fair play if anyone does but this steam roller won't end until women are all flattened under the weight of the woke idiots supporting this nonsense.

Bowlofbabelfish · 27/07/2018 12:22

Well I can’t possibly be the right sort of woman for them... I’m clearly womaning all wrong. They obviously don’t want my vote...

Although god alone knows where that vote will go. Is any party opposed to this madness?

Angryresister · 27/07/2018 12:27

What a load of crap...that shows how much women's rights and protections are important in this crazy world. Women members should resign and stop paying subs. Time for something new.

UpstartCrow · 27/07/2018 12:31

Its strange though, they knew exactly who to tap when they were trying to get started.

Floisme · 27/07/2018 12:31

I wholeheartedly support the first point:
The Women’s Equality Party recognises the damage done by socially constructed gender

If they pass the rest of it they can go swivel.

Datun · 27/07/2018 12:34

It's one thing for ignorant woke men to support self ID. Or sexists to support it.

It's quite another for a party representing women's rights to do so.

Even if you were a bit on the fence, or not quite sure what it all meant, the palpable idiocy of this is breathtaking. Even if you were a complete misogynist, to be honest.

If I was an absolute woman hater, seeing a party who advocate for women, doing the complete opposite, would still be showing me they are complete fools. Or I would come away thinking they were teenagers.

I don't often say this, but this is thoroughly embarrassing. I feel embarrassed!

53rdWay · 27/07/2018 12:35

How does this:
the damage done by socially constructed gender 2 stereotypes

go with this:
supports legal recognition of non-binary 8 people.

?

Isn’t that saying “gender stereotypes are socially constructed and harmful, but also if you’re not comfortable with them, you are neither man nor woman but belong in some special third category”?

53rdWay · 27/07/2018 12:37

Or are they suggesting we replace the existing (harmful, socially constructed) gender stereotypes with a new collection of (welcome, intrinsic to our selves) gender stereotypes? What does that category of gender stereotypes look like?

Maryzsnewaccount · 27/07/2018 12:37

The signatories to that motion, who are they? Are they real actual women who no longer want segregated safe spaces for women and girls?

Maryzsnewaccount · 27/07/2018 12:38

And why the fuck to they keep quoting Ireland? The only relevance I can see is that they want every other country in the world to keep treating women as Ireland does - ie as of no importance whatsoever.

OlennasWimple · 27/07/2018 12:40

The WEP are idiots

theOtherPamAyres · 27/07/2018 12:40

This motion presents a wonderful opportunity to debate gender extremism.

Seize it.

If you can, then get to the conference. Picket it. Alert local radio and newshounds to the protest. Hand out leaflets. Lobby the attendees.

Get a ticket. Network during down-time. Take stand-holders to task if they support the extremists. Make a speech. Give a standing ovation to speakers against the motion. Be noisy. Fight it, fight it.

We couldn't have asked for a better platform for voicing concerns.

Floisme · 27/07/2018 12:44

I think that's a very good suggestion Pam

BoreOfWhabylon · 27/07/2018 12:45

The only thing I'd agree with is the bit about removal of spousal consent for transitioning. As long as transitioning becomes grounds for immediate divorce.

OldCrone · 27/07/2018 12:46

Why don't they just change their name to the Transwomen's Equality Party?

Excellent idea Pam.

gendercritter · 27/07/2018 12:51

If anyone from the WEP is reading this, I just want to say how distressing this is to me. I feel so betrayed by your actions. It is still a rare thing that a woman goes into politics and has any kind of voice and you're using using yours to help men?

I have seen a decent number of social media accounts of non-binary people. I haven't seen many where the person doesn't have significant mental health issues. It is blindingly obvious that non-binary people are struggling with who they are and have latched onto this constructed identity as a way of escaping or managing their distress. Everyone is essentially non-binary. It means nothing scientifically. Would a patient presenting to a doctor get any different treatment based on them being non-binary? No. Their physical body is that of their sex. The only exceptions to the above are of course straight individuals in heterosexual relationships who borrow this label as a way of, I don't know, being special. That any of this is being entertained and indulged by politicians is embarrassing.

Shame on you.

Thedutchwife · 27/07/2018 12:53

What’s happening here? I feel like it’s starting to get a real tin foil hat situation. How is this even happening? A tiny minority surely can’t be doing all this.

I’m in Manchester does anyone know of any groups I can start joining or even just adding my voice too.
