Dr Stock has just tweeted this text of a motion to be put to the party conference in September

d3n8a8pro7vhmx.cloudfront.net/womensequality/pages/5826/attachments/original/1532600430/Fnl_Gender_recognition_act_motion_final.pdf?1532600430

Obviously the motion hasn't been passed yet.

Motion text: 1 The Women’s Equality Party recognises the damage done by socially constructed gender 2 stereotypes and supports changes to the Gender Recognition Act 2004. The Women’s Equality 3 Party supports changes to the current process by which transgender people are able to receive 4 legal recognition of their changed gender.

5 The Women’s Equality Party supports a process of legal recognition of changed gender which does 6 not require medical reports nor two years’ worth of documentation but a process of self- 7 determination of gender. The Women’s Equality Party supports legal recognition of non-binary 8 people.

9 The Women’s Equality Party calls on the Governments and administrations of the UK to make the 10 following changes to the current process as they revise the Gender Recognition Act 2004:

11 ● Change to the requirement to submit two supporting medical reports, one of a diagnosis of 12 gender dysphoria and one detailing treatment received. Change to the requirement to submit 13 documentation to prove the person has lived as their acquired gender for two years. Instead 14 require a self-determination process to change gender and to obtain a Gender Recognition 15 Certificate and new birth certificate. 16 ● Remove the requirement of spousal consent to obtain legal recognition of changed gender for 17 married people. 18 ● Allow people to change their gender to a third gender option as well as to male and female.

Motion rationale:

19 The Women’s Equality Party should clarify its position as changes to the Gender Recognition Act 20 (GRA) 2004 are being considered by the Governments and administrations of the UK. This change 21 would add depth to the already stated Women’s Equality Party position of supporting the right of an

And what’s the 3rd gender?

Women are becoming the 3rd gender

BirthCanal · 27/07/2018 18:22

No women are not the third gender that's gender non binary.

There is no group for biological women which is mutually exclusive from the others.

BirthCanal · 27/07/2018 18:24

I am strongly considering launching a Biology Party and standing mp candidates.

Would anyone join such a GC party?

BirthCanal · 27/07/2018 18:25

Quite happy to form a coalition with WPUK party if and when

AncientLights · 27/07/2018 18:25

I'll join your Biology Party.

Bejazzled · 27/07/2018 18:27

As a party they had a chance to make a difference for women. Unfortunately, they are just a bad joke and basically dead in the water.

BirthCanal · 27/07/2018 18:31

Thanks Ancient. Do you think the name is right? I considered genetic party but it sounds to much like eugenics!

I think I can afford my own deposit for one seat, but additional candidates would have to rely on crowd funding etc. I am hoping WPUK will rise to this when the opportunity comes.

mooncuplanding · 27/07/2018 19:02

They are proper wankers. I was involved in setting up my local office. They've always been wankers with no values to speak of.

The discussions on their FB page have been quite entertaining though

CigarsofthePharoahs · 27/07/2018 19:04

I'd happily support a GC party.

BirthCanal · 27/07/2018 19:12

That's fantastic cigars

Wanderabout · 27/07/2018 19:14

Thanks, theOther

BirthCanal · 27/07/2018 19:16

Guess it's just going to be me standing. In Bath in case you're interested. Our mp was pretty pathetic when I quizzed her about all this 3 months ago. I'd just peak transed. I would be a lot more assertive next time.

BirthCanal · 27/07/2018 19:17

I think it's appropriate to make a separate thread now so as not to derail.

thebewilderness · 27/07/2018 19:22

Instead 14 require a self-determination process to change gender and to obtain a Gender Recognition 15 Certificate and new birth certificate. 16 ● Remove the requirement of spousal consent to obtain legal recognition of changed gender for 17 married people. 18 ● Allow people to change their gender to a third gender option as well as to male and female.

The failure of political leadership to recognize that they are promoting the facilitation of fraud in an age of identity theft is just one of the many things about the GRA review that is astonishing to me.

MipMipMip · 27/07/2018 19:46

I would consider joining a Bioglogy Party - I've never agreed with enough of any party to join previously. The problem is that there are a lot of different feelings on this. I feel if people have changed genitalia or had chemical castration the should be able to come in changing rooms. But not refuges necessarily and prisons on a case by case. No spot that is divided by sex.

Other people feel there should be no concessions. So it's not easy.

One thing a party would be brilliant for is busting some myths - surgery rates, AGP, puberty blockers etc. But you would have a very very hard time of it and would be accused of hate crime and all sorts. On the other hand you might get on question time and really raise awareñess.

MipMipMip · 27/07/2018 19:46

No sport*

AncientLights · 27/07/2018 20:46

The chances of getting elected are pretty slim, but that shouldn't put us off. Not the hatred that it would attract. The name: not sure about it, does seem a bit non-specific. Like many, I am politically homeless now and would very much like not to be.

enoughisenough12 · 27/07/2018 21:28

I've just had a quick look at WEP's twitter account and there's some really interesting stuff about women's health, Brexit, the NHS, DV , painkillers and so on. It looks great superficially.

How on earth can they sabotage all that?

OvaHere · 27/07/2018 21:36

This is just embarrassing but then we knew that already about the WEP.

To repeat what I always say on WEP threads.

You had one job!

theOtherPamAyres · 27/07/2018 21:59

Sophie Walker has replied to Kathleen Stock (27/07) via twitter:

Hello Kathleen. This is a motion that has been written and proposed by members for debate at Party conference in Sept. WE make policy by member majority vote. All members have the opportunity to bring motions or amendments & vote on whether this becomes policy. See you there.

SirVixofVixHall · 27/07/2018 22:18

The WEP are a joke. I was delighted when they first surfaced, at last someone I could vote for ! .....oh wait....maybe not. Such a disappointment.

EmpressOfSpartacus · 27/07/2018 22:40

Women's Equality Party? They should be done under the Trades Description Act. If they were genuinely supporting women they'd be fighting for our sex. Instead they're manipulating gender to support males. Just like everyone else does. Hypocrites.

SanctimoniousMorph · 27/07/2018 22:45

I lost any respect for WEP when one of their branches expressed solidarity with an individual on trial (and subequently convicted) for violence against women.

twitter.com/WEP_Lambeth/status/984847675332931590

If any action was taken by the party about this, I'll be happy to stand corrected but I know it was brought to their attention and I haven't heard of any action being taken.

You can't say that your party opposes violence against women and girls and then add a caveat of "unless they say or do or think anything the perpetrator doesn't like".

JeebusWEPt · 27/07/2018 23:51

I wholeheartedly support the first point:
The Women’s Equality Party recognises the damage done by socially constructed gender

It started so well...

OrchidInTheSun · 28/07/2018 00:12

They pissed me off with one of their founding demands to lobby for ,en to be allowed on post natal wards. That was a massive signal that they take a really nice middle class approach to equality because none of them have clearly given birth in hospitals where dads have to be forcibly removed.

It's liberal feminism that doesn't scare the horses. And I want no part of it, despite being a founding member
