That's interesting - thanks for posting.
Is the Faculty of Advocates the equivalent of the Law Society?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 07/03/2018 15:01

That's a great response! It's things like that (huge legal complexity) which will sway the government's mind.

Also.liked that they got in a mention of that case where the mother was transing her child against the child's will

LittleLebowski · 07/03/2018 15:04

Brilliant document - thanks. I like particularly the emphasis on more time being needed to assess consequences in other countries with self-ID and this bit:

"Limiting the number of times that a person can change their gender identity, or the period within which there may be a further change, is consistent with the seriousness of the matter."

Yes, it damn well should be a serious matter and made harder IMO.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 07/03/2018 15:04

Yes Its but for advocates/barristers

Very interesting read. I note the following, in the context of what transgender trend have been saying and the opposition to that as somehow being transphobic:

It is submitted that any gender reassignment application for a child under the age of 16 years should be made by court process. We are aware of the English case of In Re J [2016] EWHC 2430 (Fam) where a four year old male child was “living in stealth” as a girl due to his mother’s insistence that he had gender dysphoria. The local authority was supportive of his transition without any medical or psychological evidence. The court held that J was pressed into a gender identification that had far more to do with his mother’s needs and little, if anything, to do with his own. J now lives as a boy with his father. It is acknowledged that this case is highly unusual but it highlights an issue should a parent or child seek to change the child’s gender and make a poorly informed choice for their child.

In other words the Local Authority fucked up and didn't do safeguarding of that child and the courts agreed with the father that the mother was essentially being abusive.

To my mind that raises huge questions as to why there is ANY need for 'trans education' for ANY child of primary school age and whether instead local authorities should be asking if this is about the parent and not the child and whether this is a healthy relation rather than swallowing Mermaids crap.

Is the Faculty of Advocates the equivalent of the Law Society?

No. Advocate is the Scottish term for a barrister. The Law Society of Scotland regulates solicitors. Advocates are members of the Faculty of Advocates.

PinkyPieismyspiritanimal · 07/03/2018 15:24

Yes, it's the professional body for all advocates in Scotland (equivalent of barristers). Glad people like it, took a lot of work - I'm expecting a brick through my window any minute...

terryleather · 07/03/2018 15:26

That's like a long cool drink of sense in a sea of ideologically driven virtue signalling bs.

Thanks for posting the link Assigned.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 07/03/2018 15:28

Thanks Pinky.

It's an excellent document!

Did you write it pinky?

terryleather · 07/03/2018 15:29

Pinky Were you involved in producing that response?

If so I'd like to shake your hand!!!!! Flowers Cake

swivelchair · 07/03/2018 15:30

Thank God for some sense.. in my line of work I don't meet many barristers or advocates - but the few I've met socially have seemed pretty grounded people. I'm glad that serious, eminently qualified people are putting reasoned ideas out there now. We sorely needed it!

RedToothBrush · 07/03/2018 15:31

Scottish Barristers sound a lot like TERFS.

Who'd have thunk.

I'm shocked beyond all reason, so I've changed my name to Turtle.

Lemonjello · 07/03/2018 15:34

each of us at birth is observed to have a sex (male or female)

PinkyPieismyspiritanimal · 07/03/2018 15:43

It's been through two committees to get to this stage and a few small changes were made to the initial draft. No one has said anything untoward about it or expressed any concerns of any sort.

PaddingtonLoverOfMarmalade · 07/03/2018 15:45

Ooohh, the power of having women in important roles. Long may it continue.

picklemepopcorn · 07/03/2018 15:46

Hooray! I do hope it is met with the interest it deserves.

Lemonjello · 07/03/2018 15:48

Fantastic. Very well done to you pinky.

I’d be interested in what kind of response you get now it is public.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 07/03/2018 15:50

Oh well done, Pinky. It's good to know that the MN TERF army has infiltrated all areas of society. Wink
